Thread: What's going on Kwee?? ALL ID'ers please read :)

I don't believe I mentioned TEFs and I apologize if I gave you that impression in my final sentence. I agree... TEFs have no part in this discussion. I'm purely talking about the system of overt and covert operation... which as it stands now has precious little to do with immersion and role play.
I just think it would be interesting for players to have to actually work to remove their overt status. I agree that slicers could play a part in that as well. Why not make it a doubly difficult system where you must be IDed for appearances and have your galactic citizenship records 'cleansed' by a smuggler? If you as an ID do not want to provide that quite illegal service, that is your decision as a citizen of the empire.
My philosophy is that the more game mechanics are available to us to use, the more detail we can spin into our personal stories. I know I'm probably in the minority on this one.

No, the TEF thing wasn't you…just one of those suggestions that keeps cropping up despite the total lack of incentive for IDs to want it. On to overt/covert…I'm still not sold on the idea, but I do like things that add to the immersion of the game. 95% of my enjoyment in this game comes from roleplaying, and the more game systems that support that, the happier I am. But, and this is a big but, I don't want to have an immersive system implemented that will force non-roleplayers to require my services, increasing the number of "Hi" and "R u there?" tells I get. I already get quite enough of those as a master tailor. So if there's some way this can be balanced—perhaps allowing an image designer and smuggler working in concert to reduce the time it takes to revert to covert staus instead of requiring the two in ordertochange status—I would support it. But as the only means of becoming covert…I can't say I like the idea.
(Yes, I realize many players would want this service even if it was only a reduction in time…the challenge as I see it is to make it worthwhile in certain rush cases, but not something that everyone reverting to covert status would want to spend the time to have done for them. A for-instance: someone I know in-game is RPing a pregnancy; if she is killed and forced to clone she'll lose the children…but she was overt from running a factional theme park. Helping her get home while waiting for her status to revert was nerve wracking, to say the least. In a case like this you'd do some things you wouldn't otherwise to reduce that hour to something more manageable. But under normal circumstances you'd just wait it out and not worry too, too much about it.)
As the number gets higher (ie. bad reputation in the empire), the more likely the stormtroopers are to open fire and become more and more aggressive. Could even post bounty hunter missions against the worst offenders. However, after a change by to the appearance of the character by an image designer, this number would be reset.

1) What critical function can Image Designers perform in SWG?
Before anycritical function is added the issue of XP gain needs to be addressed. As it is now with the right setup a player can become a IDer in a few hours, but there is no power gamer reason to do so. (unless you are holocroning) But if an critical function is added on Friday by Sunday there will be 100,000+ IDers. So ether redo the XP gain system for ID or drop these not so popular idea of adding critical function.
P.S. IF the critical function is a craft able (ai: disguise kit that hide faction) then some players will spendthe few hours to be master IDs then set factories to make a life time supply and drop IDing.
Just something to think about...
Oh wow. Good point…I totally forgot about the XP gain thing. So…yeah. If ID starts to become a critical profession, skill gain does need to be addressed—but as I've said in the past regarding that, if skill gain is slowed more useful aesthetic content needs to be added to the lower boxes. Which means more new content needs to be added to the higher boxes. Yeah…call me pessimistic, but that is so not going to happen.
Those are also good points, and with the dev time it would take to revamp the ID XP system, add tons ofnew content, and critical function they couldmake anew profession. (Like Miner, Artist, Spy or Singer.) So like you I don't see it happening, besides what wrong with have ONE easy and non-fuction profession?
I do have one thought on theXP gain issue, not a total fix by any means just something to help it. When a Image Designer is high on spice s/he should have an chance for an critical failure. Not just one that stops the ID, but one that hurts/wounds the IDer or ID customer, something like what happens when you /sample radioactive stuff. Would you want your plastic surgeon to be on spice?

I would like my customers to see the changes as i cycle thru them, so they can tell me when to stop, Its hard when someone asks you to change their hairstyle and you have 15 different ones but they/ or you don't want to sit there while we go thru them.
I would like to be able to see the hair as choose it so I can see if it looks really bad on the person. I don't really want what you are talking about, though since I don't just want to be some sort of click-bot who goes through image design options until the customer says stop. You almost never have to go through all the hairstyles (or anything else for that matter) if you stop and ask questions first before you start IDing the person.
Hair beads for wookiees - It's been mentioned several times before and is worth mentioning again
Two color eyeshadow (for example gray on the lid and soft pink on the brow bone)
More color options for Zabrak facial tattoos
The looped braid hairstyle that I see on NPC female Zabraks should be available to players. I haven't seen anyone with this hairstyle so I'm assuming it's not available.
I would like to see Image Designers be able to change the look of characters' entire outfits.
They could change the skins of backpacks, armors, certain clothes, vehicles (possibly) in order to make them polished, normal, ructy, dirty, and extremely used and worn.
A lot of people would want these changes for their characters... some Imperials would demand their armor and equipment should always look as clean and well kept as can be.
Other outcasts and fringe warriors may hold their rust, dirt and dented clothing and equipment as symbols of experience and achievement.
This could branch the Image Designer beyond simple physical changes, and to entire personal makeovers.
Combine this with the ideas for scars, marks, and dirt and the image designer can really help the player customize his character to a greater degree.
