Thread: ID User Interface
What I, as a Master ID, would like to see are the following. Most people have already explained these in detail, so I won't further spam the board with that, simply consider those without explainations agreements with the others who have already posted.
1) Numeric values for each slider, or, better yet, palettes instead of sliders.
2) Live changes. If I change to the "Wolverine" hairstyle on a male, he should immediately see it change on his screen so that he can tell me if he likes it or not.
3) Craftable make-up for lip color and eye shadow, including eye-shadow remover. Perhaps not one for every color, but I honestly think this could bring alot of life to our profession! Sold on a vendor or on the bazaar, this is a great way to make a little side cash while you're working on your other talents! My personal choice being Fencer. Frankly, I don't believe it will take away from the profession at all, in fact, it will spread the word that not only can you change those simple colors, but by visiting an ID you can change hair color, style, and everything else about yourself!
4) A "restore to default" button. Highly important when someone doesn't want your changes.
5) Tatoos for other races. Just make a palette and allow them to be selected, nothing complicated. I've had a ton of requests by men, specifically, to give them a tatoo on their arm of something or another.
6) No more default brown hair color! If I change someone's hair to be blonde, I don't want to see brown when I'm done, it sorta defeats the point if I can't see how it looks.
Of the above, I would place numbers 2 and 3 on the top of the priority chart.
Image Designers are pretty cool, being able to change one's look completely and all. Yes, the user interface is slightly cumbersome and could use alot of work but you know what else could use alot of work? The most broken profession in the game...read on;

This thread is about the IMAGE DESIGNER INTERFACE, it has nothing to do with changing races, chef bugs, and droid engineers bugs. We haven't even been addressing all of the bugs in ID itself, just the user interface! If you have concerns other than the ID interface post on the developer forum, quit hijacking this thread. I wish Rilawyn had the ability to delete these non-sensical posts.
I apologize for hijacking this thread, and all the other developer threads but since our forums get absolutely zip for dev repsonse, we don't have much of a choice. I'm sure I'll be warned and tracked by Vahn but until then I'll keep posting until a dev repsonds...
These hijackings are not meant to upset the general user population, just to bring the plight of the DE profession to the dev's attention...
To the hijackers... Lay off! How many ID's came to your forums and tried to hijack your threads? This is the first time that our class has been contacted to help resolve issues since release... give us our moment please.
As far as changes, a lot were already said, but to reiterate:
Multiple changes queued
Real time display of changes to the client before they click accept
The ability to cancel a change
Secure trade window so we can insert a fee if we desire
I can live with sliders, just give us a number to look at
Real lighting that doesnt depend on ambient, external, or personal sources
Here is my list of simple fixes that will greatly inprove the ID UI:
1. First, fix the existing light, or add another one, so that it points straight ahead (follows the target reticle) instead of being a big overhead light. The current light casts wierd shadows when trying to get in close to see eyes (a must for doing eyecolor) etc.
2. Attach numbers to all sliders
3. Attach names (or numbers, or both) to things like hairstyles, facial hair, tattoos, colors, patterns, etc.
4. If you plan on continuing to use a mixture of sliders & picture selections, then make it so that sliders are only used for adjusting sizes/shapes of existing body parts like weight, nose length, etc. ButNOT for tatoos, patterns, colors, etc. Those should all have picture boxes instead.
5. Make the items choices that use picture boxes (see above) be viewable to the client too.
6. If you don't want the client to see the picture box, then ditchthe whole picture box processalltogether & replace the whole thing with sliders for ALL theIDoptions, but allow the client to see the changes as we move the slider over too, instead of the whole committ/accept/refuse process, it takes way too long.
id like to see something similiar to the character creation window with some expanded capability.
first of all, there should be a button down the side for each of the sections we get on the small ID windows that currently exist.
secondly, there should be new choices for "show this entire set to the user" where they can look at the hairstyles on a sample model, and pick what they want if they need to. its nice to get someone that completely trusts you to work on them, but face it...they usually want to pick what they get...so why not let them.
changes made should be stacked until the end of the session.
there should be an option to charge a certain amount per minute, which should automatically be deducted from the clients money. the timer and session should automatically end if the client does not have the money in their bank or cash, or combination of the two. i cant tell you how many times ive wasted an hour to have the client at the end go "just put it back the way it was and lets be done with it" because i cant give them cornrows because their species wont allow it. the image designer should then get back a rundown of changes the user will allow commitment for, and the image designer at this point can key in a final price (in addition to the per minute fee). all the user should have to do is the final commit, which automatically transfers the funds to the image designer, or cancel the changes only having the per minute rate deducted.
users should be presented with color palletes, as well as sample hairstyle palletes to choose from, but the image designer should still maintain control of what they do for people who want full service. (this same exact idea should be applied to tailors, who should get a custom order terminal for their house. clients could choose what they wanted, then select from material colors themselves, based on the tailoring skill of the person who owns the structure the terminal is in)
in addition to the default character creation screen, at the bottom right should be a 3x3 grid containing radio buttons...so only one can be selected. this should be a light source positioning tool. it will let you position the light just over the character, in front of, beside, or diagonally from the client, in addition to having a slider to adjust the height, and one to adjust the intensity of the light.
all changes made should go into a queue system, with the ability to remove changes to be made before the session ends, or go back and make modifications to a single change on the client if the client so desires.
the image design process should take as much time as it does not. when the queue is completed, and is ready to be commited, each change in the queue should require enough mind to commit the next change. there should be a delay between each one if more mind is required. image designers should be able to order the queue so they can get the smaller changes out of the way faster. this would allow for some type of knowledge of your profession to be learned to get the customer out of the door as quickly as possible.
image designers should be able to zoom in to extreme levels on their clients bodies...if you guys do ever get the stuff working like scars, this could serve useful, and lets face it...being able to zoom in on the eyes would be a big help already.
time for me to go home from work, so i will try and think up some more, get it all organized and find a better way to present it than just a "spewing of whats on my brain into a textarea"...i understand this isnt very nice looking, nor is it very well organized

~ Need an easier way to view clients without having to sit in their laps to do makeup. Its to dark and all that squirming around makes it difficult to see them. Better light, A "freeze" mode or something, Ability to zoom in closer.
~ Color Charts with numbers, Percentages for things such as Toros,Height, Weight etc, Numbered hair styles and a mirror type thing like you suggested that the client can see.
~ We also need a way to sercure getting paid, A temporary hold on the work done until the final accept button with payment added or something. This gives us a way to secure payment and them a way to insure nobody is going to give them something they dont want and run off.
If I HAD to choose a single thing here its going to be the color pallettes, those sliders are just awful

Thank you Ood_Bnar ![]()
I would just like to add my support to all of the ideas brought up that have been discussed on our ID board over the past several weeks, most comprehensively written down by FishWan.
Special request: Please do not make it so we cannot do anything else in the game while ID'ing. I'm also atailor and it really gets my goat having to wait and wait with the black modal screenbefore being able to see my tells, check emails, run away from a fearsomeangered mob, etc.
I think the ID community is one of the most constructiveand forum-productive ones out there
A note to the trolls that our profession has never even had our correspondent issues responded to, yet this is one of the most patient, optimistic groups of players in the game. Follow their examplein your own forums.
Did I say Ood_Bnar rocks!! ![]()
I would like to add to my previous list one or two refinements.
I apologize in advance if what I'm about to list are coding bugs that lie in someone else's domain. I'm not sure if these are UI problems or other, more secretive bugs -- heck, our entire profession is a UI -- but as long as you're looking at the window interface, please consider the following:
If you give us a number for height, please list it in comparable game units. That is to say, give it to us in centimeters or meters. Many people want to approximate their own real-life height for their characters, and we have no way at all to judge relative scale. (Giving us a comparable figure in kg for weight would be very hard to code, but it would be amazingly impossibly cool.)
If you give us a color palette, please make the blocks larger than the CCfor such things as lipstick and eyeshadow. The tiny rectangles of color in the character creator are very hard to see. That's probably because multiple palettes are crowded on the screen at once. I want nice big easy-to-see easy-to-click color swatches for that stuff.
When we change Zabrak hair/horn style, the horn color defaults to dark brown. Somehow there is a bug that causes this and it may be buried in the UI somewhere. I have a lot of requests to fix this one: novice entertainers have played with hair/horn styles and can't fix their horns.
When we change hair styles, the hair color defaults to0 for everyone but the client. This may also be buried in the code behind the UI. Everyone else (including the ID) will see the new hairstyle as hair color 0 (which is dark brown for humans, orange for rodians). The client will see the hair color perfectly. Everyone else will see dark brown until the client flies a shuttle, logs out, or dies. (Basically until his shape reloads.) This bug also happens when we try to change hair color without changing the style. Something in the execution ofthe hair style-colorcommand is broken.
The button labeled "Eye Shape" actually changes Eye Angle. Also, the command /imagedesignsetvalue eye_shape also changes eye angle. Something here is haywire.
There is no button for Eye Angle. See above. Eye Angle can be adjusted with the Eye Shape button; Eye Shape cannot be changed at all.
Other buttons that do not show up properly: freckles for men, Twi'lek eyebrows and ears, Torso slider for most males. I'm sure the other IDs have a more comprehensive list of missing buttons. In fact, I'm sure Kwee has probably already said something about this. (Go Kwee!
)
There is a very, very, very nasty bug in the ID interface that occasionally sets things to zero. It is difficult to replicate reliably. Sometimes when we try to adjust something (such as height, mouth size, or other numerical sliders) the slider wavers for an instant at the proper place... then drops to 0, the far left. The original setting is lost. Even if the client refuses the change, it still happens! We might be styling along peacefully, and we click to open the Mouth window, and boom! The mouth setting drops to 0. Even if we Escape back out without changing, itstill changes! What causes this? Is it a UI problem? I suspect so, but can you fix it, pretty pretty please?
Torso slider is backwards for females. The slider is "maximum size" at the far left and "minimum size" at the far right. This seems wrong to me. Can it be made the right way around (bigger to the right, smaller to the left)? This is probably caused by the /imagedesignsetvalue torso#. Negative numbers in the command line get bigger results. I don't know if the torso slider for men does this because we ain't got one. (Write that down too.)

Come on people don't be so mean, sheez.
I'm not an ID,but I do respect others peoples right to have funTHEIR way. Anytimepart of SWG is improved its good for us all.
Ok well, as a still training ID, I can't really say much more than what everyone has put in, Kwee especially. I just want my vote to count that something is done, bugs fixed first, and a more intuitive interface for both the ID and the client is put in place.
Keep up the good work everyone
