Thread: Poll: player-placeable tent or terminal?
I would prefer to place a terminal in my abode rather than place a tent after all its the terminal rather than the tent that gives us the ID benefits!

Would you rather:
- Be able to place a player-city ID salon tent
OR
- Be able to place an ID terminal in any player owned structure
Please list any pros and cons you can think of.
This is a tough choice. Why can't we have both?
hehe. I think I'd go with a terminal in my own structure. I think I could make a more cozy salon tailored to what I like, than the devs could. But they can feel free to prove me wrong when they show us the new decor for current salons
A lot of people own their own housings, some IDs even have their own salons, a tent would just a lot they'd need to use. Right now I own a cantina with takes 5 lots, and I need to harvestor things and run a factory so it's a lot I can't really afford right now.
My final choice would depend on a lot of "what ifs" and how the devs would handle such a thing if they did it
But go ahead and put me down for Terminal.

I think termials would be best if I had to pick one over the other.

1. First of all, for those that like the idea of having a player ID tent, having the terminal be an item you place separately will let you decorate your tent any way you see fit,& sparing the devs from the chore of coming up with a decoration scheme that would please us all (would never happen anyway, so why try). The devs would need to do very little as the terminals & merchant tents are already designed...& even transfering the textures etc of the new tents to a smaller merchant/ID tent should be very easy. It's a win-win!
2. Secondly, this also allows for more freedom for those that want to have home based salons or work from player cantinas or player medical centers for role-playing purposes (Plastic Surgeon Tags, etc.). And again, less work for the devs...another win-win.
Personally, I live in a small community without a mayor or formal city
structures. I would like to be able to place a terminal in the salon
I have decorated and be able to use that once again.

Seeing as this was brought up again recently, I'm gonna place my vote for terminal. More flexability this way(hey, maybe you could place one in a merchant tent?
)
That was sort of the idea by voting for terminal over a tent with built in terminal like the player city tents. This is an older post, but I think a lot of us like the idea of being able to place the terminal independantly in a merchant type tent or other player owned structure than having a cookie cutter tent with a built in terminal that will force us to use an extra lot.
The idea going around now of the droid modules is great too, & even offers more flexibility...I'll accept anything that doesn't force me to be in a player version of the ID tents.
That would save me a lot of work, thank you

Edit: I'll sum up the pros and cons and set them down in a coherent format once we get some more votes.

Right-o…that'll be my "I've finished all my work for the day, but I still have to be in the office for 4 more hours" task tomorrow
- Tents: 4 votes
- Pros
- Limited number of locations: limits empty tent issues, more easily identifiable
- Civic structures: any ID could operate out of a placed tent
- Equity: all ID structures would have the same external appearance, removing the disparity of the haves/have-nots
- Cons
- Civic structures: "gates" IDs who are not player city residents
- Customization: Some feel tents are ugly, or unsuited to the pampering experience, or worry that there will be limited interior customization options
- Civic structures: some communities may not qualify, or may opt for other structures in lieu of using lots for ID tents.
- Civic structures: players may not be able to be banned only from the tents, for whatever reason.
- Civic structures: depopulation of player cities may make city-only structures not a worthwhile investment.
- Terminals: 19 votes
- Pros
- Ease: probably easier to implement
- Ease: allows IDs to continue to use currently decorated salons
- Lots: would not require IDs to place a new structure
- Service: would allow for more granular denial of service to abusive customers or unauthorized IDs
- Interdependance: would be crafted by artisans, promoting ID dependance on others
- Flexibility: can be placed in any structure, not just within a player city
- Cons
- Overuse: could be overused, making every structure a salon
- Registration: provides no global-map registration abilities
- Service: could disrupt some IDs when using terminals in structures that aren't theirs when said structure is set private
- It Depends: 1 vote
