I have a bright red entertainer droid that I name "Image-Designer-In-Tent" whenever I am going to spend time in the tent I Set that big walking bill board through town.

Oddly enough people tend to notice a Large Red Droid with Foam shooting out its feet and Dancing Jawas shooting out its... umm...rear. If I had thought ahead I would have had a music module installed as well so that it would have the notes coming out of it as well. Anyways this droid has paid for itself several hundred times over even if I did have to beg, borrow and plead endlessly to get it made.

Whoever first suggested the ID droid idea should be given a rancor bile enema. That single idea, if implimented, would do more to destroy the ID profession than any other. However, as some may have noticed, there's already another thread for that...

Barker droids... I've always thought it would be a neat idea, and in some ways, would be a nice way to get back at all the advertisers in the star ports that I would love to see munched by Ewoks on any day of the week. But... seeing the darn bark every 10 minutes while I'm inside the tent working would just about drive me nuts. Now.. if the salon walls weren't burlap (tee-hee) and so thin, and we couldn't hear the voices outside and whatnot, this would be downright brilliant. Alas, they're not. They're thin and we hear everything... even some choice discussions from the cantina when people there think they're all alone...

Currently, if an ID had a barker droid outside the Salon at Theed on Starsider, I'd ask them to please put it away while I was there working, cuz they annoy the bejeebus out of me.

Naming pets and droids is a wonderful suggestion! I've never seen this done before, so it's a novel idea to me. Plus I like seeing pets about (provided it's not people bringin' friggin' BANTHAS inside the Salon... gobs that ticks me off!) The cuter and more plentiful pets around the Salon the better. Bring on the Vir vur and the Gnorts and the Jax's... the smaller and furrier the better.

I'm lucky enough that I have something to do in the Salon when there's no one on... which because of my schedule is quite often... I'm a tailor, and I've got a crafting droid so I can just make clothes when things are slow. Plus, if a noob comes in I like to offer to make them over with ID, migrate their stats if they need it, and make them a whole new set of non-noob clothes. I don't charge them anything. Why? Cuz eventually they'll be TKA masters and Jedi and have oodles more credits than I do, and even then they'll remember my name when they see it. Why? Cuz upon making their char's they just spent about a half hour staring at my char, they have clothes with my char's tags on them, and I usually pop them a waypoint to my tailoring vendor to boot.

See... sometimes you have to MAKE your clientelle, rather than just hope for it to wander in.

I also like the idea of making a circuit of whatever city you're in tossing holoemotes all over and going all crazy-colored. It doesn't interfere with people, it doesn't have to be annoying. It's silent advertising (a definate bonus in my book), and if it gets results then mission accomplished!

I also have an entertainer droid will all the added effects. My droids name is MasterIdNowInIdTent. I have him make the trip back and forth between the Theed ID tent and the starport enterance. I do think the light shows and all the fog is much more better than a barker droid, because Theed tends to have way to many barker droids and your barker message tends to get lost in the spam. But a droid with smoke and other things tends to get the populations attentions much better. I also spam macro by /yell every 15 minutes "Master Id now in Id tent." which is heard in the cantina.(nothing less than 15 minutes, you tend to make dancer mad in the cantina) I have a never ending line of people.

The Effects droid will not work without at least Novice Dancer or Novice Musician. The Barker will not work without merchant. But if you have those skills they come in handy. As a pure entertainer (on the ground anyway) The wandering effects droid is a must have for an image designer. The more unusual the droid the better, the largebinaryload lifter, the floating one (DZ270?), The one with all the arms (tredwell), and a powerdroid is also an interesting choice but the powerdroid islimited to a single effect but the walk is cute and everyone loves the *gonk* so they do work. I have found MSE and R-series droids to be less effective as they are everywhere.

Just a couple thoughts from someone not in the profession, but who has had to seek out IDs a few times.

1) Keep the tags up. I'm sure you're proud of being a Master Dancer/Musician/Pikeman/etc, but finding the other stuff is easy. The first thing I do when I'm looking for an ID (and the salon is empty) is run to the cantina and look for ID tags. I figure if I can find a dancer or musician with the tags I can drop him/her a little extra creds to steal him/her away for a second and make a salon run. But sometimes it's hard to find the ID tags anywhere, and I hate standing in the middle of the cantina yelling "ANY IMAGE DESIGNERS AROUND?"

2) The times I have gotten an ID it's cause the ID took a stroll down to the cantina and just made a little walk through saying "Image Designer In-Tent." Simple little trip, but as soon as she did six people jumped up and ran for the salon. Especially since most of us are looking for stat mig and we make the changes beforehand, and then wait a week (or more) looking for an ID between our quests.

That's why I wish ID's could do their work in cantinas and still get the bonus. When I need buffs or heals I stop whatever I'm doing, but the bounty on hold, and go get healed, cause that affects my ability to play the game and take my bounties. But when I need an ID I don't actively look- I just keep an eye out when I'm in the cantina getting rid of my BF, cause getting IDed is not game-breaking. That's totally my own darn fault, but I think of a lot of people do that, and it leads to the No IDs/No Customers horse-or-cart situation. Granted cantinas are the playgrounds of Dancers, but darnit ID is an offshoot of Entertainer. With Medic it doesn't matter if you're a Doctor, Combat Medic or First Responder- you get your bonus in a medical center. Why not likewise for IDs?

3) The roaming droids- genuis!

4) It would also be nice if there was an ID terminal that showed the various hair styles/colors/etc on a blank model, just so you can go to an ID and say "Can you do hair style XX" instead of "I wanna do sumfin...different. You know, like that one guy who had his hair all...in that way."

Just my .02 Thanks for all your hard work, ladies and gents.

Some good points. I always leave my tag up, even when I'm in space or out on Yavin killing things. ::grin:: Heck, I did an ID job when I was in a cave on Lok the other day. The guy was so excited! It took a quick minute to make the cosmetic changes he wanted and we both went about our way.

I think I am the rare ID as I don't look for clients. I Just do my own thing and tool around the galaxy. I have a lot of clients who have been referred to me by name or see me on the Gorath forums. Most of my business comes that way. I don't *want* to hang around a cantina nor an ID tent. I want to get some ACTION!! w00t! I do, however, love the ID profession and will fly *anywhere* if someone asks nicely. ON my own dime, even.

Last night in Theed:

Xanija decided to put some clothes into the bazaar and some advertising for her tailor shop. As usual, she had her Master ID / searchable switched on. After a few minutes the first tell: Can you do some stats migration for me? Of course I can. Meet in the ID Salon just around the corner.

Well, and that's where I stayed all evening long. Sometimes there were 3 clients waiting for stats migration and other ID services. Ok, it might have been easier if there wasn't that nasty bug about the wounds, but I had quite some customers. I could also sell some clothes to them, so it was very successful.

Nice story besides: One of my clients gave me a color crystal even before I started, just because I waited for her. And of course she paid me later.

But I agree, a registration option would be fine. Although I would like to see a player-city ID salon, I doubt I would stay there a whole evening. It would just serve me for not having to travel to Theed, if a customer in my city asks for service.

Some kind of advertising registration would be nice: Going to a tent, registering an ad, which stays there for 2 or 3 days. Clients could then go there, look up the names, and /tell the IDs.

Interesting post......but I am finding that many many newbs do not even have a clue as to what an ID is....and if they do know, they think we exist only to "improve" their skills for them (meaning stat migration) and that we are the ones who do this...they have NO CLUE as to what a Master ID can do....so they don't seek us out!

We have more problems with this huge influx of newbs on Bria....and I tired of trying to explain it to them...even though it's all in my bio...I am thinking they don't even know how to read a bio.....

Just an odd little bug I noticed, I'm sure this has been posted before, but when players do a search in their Community window for "Image Designer" the results turn up people with the Novice Image Designer tag and Master Image Designer Tag, but it doesn't seem to turn up people with tags like "Expert Hairstylist" or "Tattoo Artist." Just an FYI to anyone who missed it- keep your NID tags up so you'll show up in searches and can generate more business that way (50% of my business comes from /tells from players doing a search).
