A formerly useless profession? How so? Because it didn't help with fighting? I hate the idea that just because ID didn't directly contribute anything to the mechanics of the game, such as improving your fighting, or healing you after a fight, it must be useless.

Ok, replace useless with unecessary. That make you happy? Let's face facts; the vast majority of players take on some sort of combative role in the galaxy and this is the only profession that was completely alienated from every other profession. The simple fact is that IDs prior to May 12 were the most overlooked and neglected profession and played a very small role in the galaxy. Every other profession had something to benefit the other classes and forced a commercial trade. Prior to May 12 there is almost no way an ID could support themselves without taking on a secondary profession. Don't nitpick, take the post as a whole-the revamp was a good thing.

I'm not nitpicking. I'm saying you're looking at our profession like a combatant. Saying we must be happy now that we're no longer "unecessary". Unecessary to who? To a combatant. Which is exactly my point. Just because we were unecessary to a large number of player didn't mean we wanted that particular aspect of our role in the game to change. Personally, I was happy having a small niche of players who we were necessary too. Those who wanted to look good for whatever reason. You're further proving my point that we are considered a pointless profession by many combatants, but unlike you, most of them don't see it as a positive thing that we are now necessary to them, they see it as a hassle and stupid because in their minds we're a girly prof who want to play with hair, and we get the flak for this.

I'm in no way attempting to trivialize harassment in the game. Just trying to point out that there are altenatives to tickets (which don't seem to get much results). I believe in handling problems at thelocal level 1st, then going to a higher authority if the problem isn't fixed.I'm a role player at heart and prefer to see in-game problems solved in-game. It's a simple solution...do not associate with the troublemakers. Don't provide your services to them. Considering the relatively small community of IDs, we should stick together if another one of us is being harrassed. If you're an entertainer, ban them. The greatest thing this gamehas going for it is the socialization which is not only encouraged, but required.I've smacked several members of my own faction who I've caught making lewd comments and will not tolerate this behavior from anyone in my guild/faction.

Maybe if you place a bounty on the heads of these offenders that will solve the problem?

Certainly true But I've heard far worse aimed at the female ID's than the male ones. No harassment should be trivialized however.

I'm well aware of that. In fact, I would say I'm in a position to understand well both ends of that issue. I'd go into more detail, but it's easier to simply linky!

The problem is if you don't have a big enough brick or can't find the right head. The devil is in the details.

Awesome! My 1st pedigree was sociology/antropology. You could turn this intoa master's thesis.

After reading Syzygy-Gorath's outstanding article I felt the need to play "female like me". Last night I returned to play a female dancer/fencer avatarIcreated(Chilastra), one of the 1st chars I created; to conduct my own little sociological experiment. One special little conversation sticks in my mind.... (the names have been changed to protect the guilty)

Scene: A young, naive dancer recently moved to the big city in search of bright lights, fame, and adventure. She lands her 1st job at a cantina....some customers walk in.....

Taylor: Welcome all to the cantina! Please have a seat....relaxand let us heal you and take your cares away. (happilly)

<customer>: WOO HOO! nice bod! want to join me in the back room? /wink

Taylor: I think you should be more polite, unless you want us to block you. (stern)

<customer>: oh, the things I could do to you baby /kiss

Taylor: Really? Like what? (sarcastically)

<customer>: i'll make you feel things you never felt b4

Taylor: /tell <customer>are you aware that you're talking dirty to a 40 yr old plumber named Ralph?

<customer>:............................................................

Strangley enough I never received another response from this person and they went LD soon after.I have this image of a kid running to the nearest toilet or otherwise sufficient receptacle. Reference to "The Crying Game".

Harrassment is a problem, but those who are harrassing others are more than likely no older than 16 and psychological warfare rules! Many of these kids are testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior and can be handled quite easily.

Yes, my perspective is different as a male, but I spent 8yrshaving my 6'4", 220lb butt getting thrown around the dojo by my 5'6" 120lb female sensei, so I don't perceive females in general as needing help.
