I'll put my two cents in here, just because I can. I walked into one of these tents today and I have to say, when I saw the ID terminals that you can stand in it set off one idea big time. What if these terminals are a way for the devs to allow IDs to change the species of the player? The terminals are large enough for an entire body to fit in it, so it makes sense that something like this could change the entire form of the player. Hey, maybe it's just wishful thinking, but it's a cool idea nonetheless.

We had that happen to someone on our server. He was a wookiee named True-Fett, and they told him his name was inappopriate and had to be changed. So he said, okay, and apparently the next time he logged in he was still named True-Fett, but he was now human. LOL

As a result of this issue though, he had to master several professions over again for the hologrind. He had to do 34 out of 32 professions.

The tents do bother me. I forsee every ID crammed into the tent, each one trying to pick up the customer that walks in. Also, in the player towns, my doc has a hospital, my entertainer has a cantina, my crafter sell out of local vendors. ID's will be the only ones that have to leave home to commute to work. Also, I can heal in my own home in addition to at a hospital or town cantina. Let's have all ID work in our homes. I would add cantinas as a place where it would work also. So I can be near my friend & family and work on clients in my town, in my home or cantina. And as an ID and entertainer, I would love to perform for the mind wounded in between clients. I am hopeful that it will be better our profession.

Yes, I find it worrying, too.

People are going to say, "but Entertainers have to work in Cantinas", but the difference is that Entertainers can group and share the xp - in other words, if one of them is watched/listened to, they all get a share of the xp. Would the same work for ID groups?

If not, you're going to get lots of ID-ers standing around trying to collar the mark when he/she comes in for some work and undercutting each other. And if there's some special tent-only ID work that can't be done outside of the tents, then it weakens the class.

I agree that we probably should be able to place our own tents (although it depends on what the tents do). As I understand it, there will be no ID work that can't be done outside of the tents, though.

If they had accurately communicated what the "particle effects" were to be beforehand I wouldn't have bothered saying anything other than "don't bother, spend the time on smuggler missions." Seriously, as disappointed as I am by these "holo-emotes" I'm even more disappointed by the lack of communication. I believe that the failure of the devs to post an In Concept/In Development thread led DIRECTLY to the current unrest among IDs and clients alike over this issue, and to a lot of wasted art department time that could have been spent on items that are both needed and wanted by various communities, even if it wasn't ours.

To the devs: you've made a good effort on communicating better with your playerbase. Please don't throw it all away now by neglecting such simple, standard-practice things. This, as well as the proposed crafting change, quite clearly demonstrate a need to better explain proposed changes, how they would work, what role they would fill, and in what way they would fill it. In absence of this sort of communication you end up with dozens of pages worth of angry posts, and as much as I hate making angry posts I'm sure you hate reading them even more. So can't we plase avoid them altogether by keeping the lines of communication open and flowing?

I'm not an ID'er but I came across this thread because I was curious as to what was known about the new tents. They did catch my attention. As for the speculation of the functionality of the terminals, could they in some way be tied to player being able to move their character to a different server. There has been talk about this being added soon. It may make absolutely no sense to tie it to the ID profession and I'm pretty sure I'm completely crazy for thinking this, but it was the comment about the terminals being large enough for an entire body to fit in it. I was just thinking of other things that could apply to a machine that accommodates an entire person.

Just dreaming ideas here.

What are "particle effects"?

Perhaps the fact that an entire body is able to fit in an ID terminal could mean that instead of the ID having to pick and choose numbers, colors, and sizes, and whatnot, it could bring up something exaclty like or very similar to the character creation screen.
