Maybe they're very cheerful races, causing them to grin all the time.

Actually what annoys me as far as mouth-art goes is whenever my wookiee meditates, she gets this big pink crescent across her black face - it's the way her mouth looks when it's turned down. I can take the frowny eyes, but this is like seeing too far down her gums or something.
Plus any time she listens to or watches an entertainer her face gets set to essentially /mood angry, though I think that's kind of funny. She's such a crabby ball of fuzz, except when she's rearranging someone's hair.

Ugh, yeah. If I hear 'Rock' one more time I'm going to /flameSingle2 myself in the ear

The angry look when watching entertainers is not just a Wookiee thing, my human char does it too. Maybe it's just the pain of hearing starwars2 for the millionth time.

The idea of bib being a defect (I Believe) was mentioned when it was decided to NOT have SWG males to have them so that they'd be as pretty as the females.
THe ear nub thing has been an iritating debate... those nubs couldn't really pick up sound unless it were explained as a way to pick up sounds in the underground caves but caves echo... and as an evolutionary trait the males would have them as well. I still have to say that I think the nubs in the bone crests were decoration, not really their ears. http://www.starwars.com/databank/species/twilek/
Me lyn apparently Has no nubs since her lekku wrap is covering them and there's no lump. And Oola's bone crest is not the same color as her skin. But sure the thing could be covering it. Doesn't change the fact that Me Lyn does not have the nubs. It just doesn't makes sense for the females to have completely different sensory organs than the males. Usually diferences that occur are for mating purpleses (bulbous flaps under the neck to inflate like in birds) not actual sensory organs.
Twi'lek have sharp teeth. This would explain (to me) why many times you can see their teeth even as they relax, because their jaws are still very human, not animalistic. So cone shaped teeth, not flat ones like humes.
And lekku.. Lekku rock. I love Tekoa's and I think it makes her as pretty as she is because of them

http://www.sgtfretsurfer.com/Grilled-Sarlacc/c/aayla/3.jpg<-- they look like ridgy bones here on Aayla. Can't see how it would be argued they're part of her headdress.
I tried to find a good picture of George Lucas' daughter as her Twi'lek from Ep. II, but failed.

I know they look like ridges, I did say that Oola's were apparently covered by the bone crest. So apparently Me Lyn is defective. I see a lot of that with the Twi'lek species because it seems like no one can get it quite right.
It still stands that there is no apparent reason for them. Those things are not productive for capturing sound, and they are unnecessary for mating. So there would be no evolutionary reason for them (which I wouldn't believe anyway but still, at least there'se good reason) And there's no reason for the males to NOT have the same thing, other than someone somewhere took artistic license and thought "Hey, this is cool" ... which is what happened most likely.
