Man, I've been reading this forum for the last five minutes and you guys can only be described one way:

Spiteful, Cold and Pretentious.

Man, you know a lot of people really want to be able to play Jedis in this game. The only way to do is to use Holocrons. This just happens to be a profession that many people to do not like. They don't dislike you for liking it. It's just not how they want to play the game. And many people are forced to master ID to get to the next holocron.

How would you like it if you wanted to become a Jedi and a holocron told you master some profession you hated (I would hate to have to master weaponsmith, armorsmith, or Droid Engineer), and when you after for help the Master Weaponsmiths responded by saying:

"Get off OUR forums n00b. I"M A TRUE MWS, your just a holoGRINDING ******"

I bet money you'd take offense to that. It's not that thesepeople HATE IDers, they just don't like being IDers. If you hated working through droid engineer would really want to waste 2-3 weeks of your time becasue someone thought you needed the "real Droid Engineering experience."

This is just a game. Some of you people act really immature about it. I'm also talking to the people that come on this forum and say:

"ID suxxor, it's so easy, HAHAHAHA."

Everyone just needs to chill out for christ sake.

I'm getting very, very, VERY tired of repeating myself here, Don. As I (and many others) have stated COUNTLESS times, most of us don't have any problem with the holocron grinders. As we've said, it's not THEIR fault they have to do it, the fault lies in the method we're forced to use to become a Jedi. What we DO have a problem with is people trashing our profession. It's insulting, demeaning and also untrue. So next time you troll, please do your homework first.

I myself am a holo-image designer. I sat at the trainer and stocked up on muon gold and mastered the craft from start to finish in 4 hours. But I gave something back to the community. I put my tag up and was surprised that I had tells in less then 5 minutes asking for some makeovers (must be a real shortage of image designers out there, at least at master level). I said sure and spent the next 2 hours fixing up some really ugly people (/snicker). I received many comments saying "Most IDs wont even reply, much less take 15 min to help me look good when im not even sure what I want". Made me feel good, so good in fact that Im keeping the skill for awhile, this is rather fun to be honest.

I put up my tag and in less then 10 minutes I had 5 people waiting patiently for makeovers. I took my time with each one, offered some ideas, and really improved the looks of several people. I charged nothing but got an average of 10k in tips per client. I also got a tell that said "I thank you very much, most IDs wont even return my tells, much less putting up with dealing with me when I dont even really know what I want. You did a great job".

I enjoyed doing it so much in fact that for the time being Im not dropping it, im going to sit in Coronet and do some more fixes, lord knows there a bunch of people looking for master image designers apparently with no luck.

Alas the Chef forum was in the same mess for a while, I think we're pretty much worked through it now, but we were showing the same symptoms.

I caught this thread while following the dev tracker.

As a member of the DE forums community, I know exactly what you're feeling right now. ID is a class that appeals greatly to a select few, and the overwhelming majority of players just hope someone else likes it.

DE is is on it's ear at the moment, so we get a lot of the same commentary from players wanting to get in and out as fast as possible. And it sounds like we have a few "Lady China"s on our boards too.

We resolved to make a sticky post, courteous and to the point, entitled "HOLOCRON DE's READ THIS" and it answers all of their questions and keeps at least the semi-conscious players from cluttering the discussion threads.

Good luck to you all, and I hope your issues are quickly resolved to your satisfaction.

You know what? You career IDers have every right to be mean, spiteful, and pretentious to SOME of these people. God forbid I ever get a holocron (as a crafter, I can only laugh at the system) and it tells me to master a profession that I have absolutely no interest in, I'm STILL going to be sweet as cake to anyone who is a master if I have to ask them questions. As an Architect, I don't get asked how to grind to the top, everyone already pretty much knows. And if someone were to come to me and tell me architect "suxx0rs" and how do they macro grind it, I'm going to tell them, in much harsher terms than this,to piss off. Don't knock my way of having fun in this game. It isn't exploiting anything, it isn't hurting anyone, it's building things. For the Image Designers, it's fixing people's ugly, and a noble profession it is. The phrase "I can lose weight, but you can't lose ugly" does not apply here thanks to these people. Now if that same person were respectful about it, of course I'd help, and what I got out of this thread was that is the way most IDers feel. I hope that if I am ever in a position to need to grind ID, I remember just what the hell it was I said here and treat you with some respect. I would expect the same in return.

For me the interesting thing is that mastering holo professions takes us to classes that we might never have considered, yet some of them are great (if unexpectedly so). My journey chasing that elusive FS slot has become an enjoyable meander, rather than a mad tearing rush to get there. I'm finding that I really enjoy the change of pace and the diversity. But it hurts when you finally move on and have to give up skills you really enjoy....

Listen. This has been said numerous times, but I'll repeat it.

Grinding is not a problem. Everyone grinds. That's how you get new skills. The problem is that so many people grind up to master before ever actually doing any real image designing. When I was a novice ID, I would stop grinding every few boxes, and go around trying to image design people with what skills I had. Granted, I frequently had to just refer people to my list of masters, but I still did what I could. That way, now that I am a master, I can honestly say that I am a fairly decent image designer.

Grind away. Just try to learn something while you do.
