well, after reading your replies I have decided to only charge for stat migration (7500)

I also found that most of the time, it takes over 10 mins for the customer to decide what they want, so I ask them if it is ok for me to stat migrate them anyway (for free, of course ).

Now I only charge for stat migration if they specifically ask for it

I charge 16k. Period.

Always have, always will. I loathe doing stat migrations and that's what I tell anyone who asks why my price is "So high" ( I've been asked this by a TERAS KASI MASTER for heaven sake, you KNOW he's gonna have the creds for a measly 16k )

If someone wants me to psend 10 minutes of my life doing something so boring then they better expect to have to pay me for it.

I still charge 10k and try to be nice and patient to my customers (which is not easy sometimes) and I have no problems with it. It's allways a question of the server and it's players and last but not least a question of supply and demand how much to charge for stuff, be it weapons, armor or Services like ours.

and I'm very glad that most of you havn't fallen into the greed-trap yet and stick to reasonable prizes

Should? No, I wouldn't say that. I think a better question instead of "should a novice ID charge?" would be: "Is is appropriate for a novice ID to charge?" To whiich I would give a very postive affirmation. It's a service/commodity. The whole supply vs demand economic model comes into play here. Don't let anyone try and guilt you into providing services for free just because you benefit xp wise from it.

Adding to the thread a bit, I do charge a sliding fee for stat work. My base price is 10k. If the client is obviously a newbie and is not sporting expensive items, I'll slide it down a bit to be nice. On the other hand, I also take my own personal enjoyment and time into consideration. The whole 10 minutes is talked about, but since I'm a master, I tend not to hang out in the tents. So for me a stat migration can take upwards to half an hour or longer. 10 minutes to travel to the salon, 10 minutes to perform the stat work, and 10 minutes to return to where I was having fun in the first place.

I factor in how much time total time it would take me to do the job iincluding travel, and how much it would take for me to abandon whatever fun I'm engaged in. I think the highest price I ever quoted was 80k. Yes, I got a nast tell for that. However, I politly explained how I arrived at my price, and pointed out that if they were just a little patient, they could lurk near the salon and probably get it done whole heck of a lot cheaper, but if they wanted it done right then, that was how much it would cost. Did I make 80k? Nope, but I didn't get anymore nasty tells either. I also didn't have to stop what I was doing. Mabye I'm lucky but had they agreed, I'd have traveled with no grumbling. That all being said, I still tend to stay in the 10 to 15k range as most of the time I'm just hanging out anymore and the salon is just down the street.

Actual ID work though, I have no set prices, I don't quote any prices, I let the customer decide what it's worth to them. Usually it's higher than what I might have charged them had I had a set price, sometimes less. it all balances out.

and wow, I rambled quite a bit to answer a simple question.

and edited just because I just discovered I can. Yay!

Definatly a minimum of 10K, look at it this way an elite combat proffesion can kill a Rancor lair in that time. That's 37K cash.

Not a ID... just checking reading about... Just like dancers and entertainers, I don't tip those who ask for it... The only ID's I've ever gave cash to are the ones who don't bark for it... and when they don't bark they usually get 50k+ tips (ID's only)

but I do see why people charge because of the common **edit** who has a 50 million credit bank account yet doesn't even tip his ID after a stat migration and thats probably the only reason people need to charge now is because stupid people can't seem to appreciate some one elses time for doing work, stat migrations and etc and give em a tip...

basically if I see two ID's and one is barking for 10k and the other is saying no need to pay I'm gona tip the one who says no need to pay twice as much...

some one who is willing to take there own time to do something realizing that they might not even get any thing out of it deserves a tip twice as big from me

Regards,
fritz

Although it is nice when people are willing to give their time for free, I suggest that next time you get doctor buffs that you tip them 1000 credits and see what happens. After all, that more than covers the materials even if they are good buffs. You shouldn't pay more than 1500 credits for *any* weapon either. The fact is that for a player economy to work then both good *and* services have to be worth something. This is just the way the game is set up.

The way I see it, A doctor is probably making 5k or more profit over halva, bivoli, buff packs and some factor of their droid and clothes costs for a minute of work where ever they want. 20k is the number that makes it worth my time in the tent. If someone asks how much before,I tell them 20k. If they ask after we started I tell them "I generally ask 20k, but tip what you feel is fair for my time." If some one gives a legitimate reason for not being able to pay,I will generally take what they offer or do it for free. It seems to work out for me on Bria.

I hadn't thought about accepting barter for my work, maybe a loot kit piece.

Just thought I would let you know that since I have started saying

"pay me what you think it is worth"

for everything I do, I have been making about 200K - 300K a day.

Someone even tipped me 50K to change his beard

Usually, I walk around with my TKM tag up, but that doesn't mean i'm rich (my house has 1 day of maint left and i have 6k to my name). According to the general ideas people have expressed, i should be able to pay 10k. I'm a TKM after all. But i'm also a master musician, and when I need stats migrated, its for that profession. Now, by the same token, when I can, i usually heavily tip my image designers, usually double what they ask. I honestly don't see why the rest of the playing population doesn't see image designers as a viable profession.

The novices on my server all dropped their prices on Stat Migrations, to around 5k it seemed. I have no idea when this changed, but it seemed like one day, every novice in the tent woke up that morning and decided they were done charging 10k and rather charge 5k instead. *Shrug* It was fine when there was actually novices around in the tent, because then I could just usher the incomers to them, to help them get XP, and if they wanted to charge less than it was worth, it just meant they had to do the same amount of work everyone else was doing for less money. Their choice. But when theres no novices in the tent, I'd get customers complainingif I charged more than 5k, stating they had "gotten it there for 5k before". I usually charge 10k.I'll usually discountforvery good repeat customers and faction members.I've had a customer try to use the "but it gives you xp" arguement on me to try to get out of paying, but they quieted up once I explained that my Master ID title meant that I didn't need anymore ID xp. But yeah...theres always the big debate on pricing of stat migrations. It varies server to server and even tent to tent and it seems to change randomly. Its weird how one person can effect the market like that, but usually the average overall seems to be 10k.

We can pretty much tie this to the doc buffing pricing issues. It is a service many feel they need and can't go without that they do not want to pay for. The flip side is that it is a boring job to perform that the player charges what they can to make it worth their time.

The fact their are so few to do it should be sign as to whether it is worth the money.
