Thread: Ok I saw a human with blue skin, what gives?
I think it's horrible and nasty to have human hair on the other races. Yes, I realize that we aren't *exploiting* per-se, but rather SOE should fix the bug, and our profession is apparently on the bottom of their to-do list.
Having said that... messing with the code to create unintended results breaks the rules of the game. I'm not talking about the EULA, I'm talking about how the game is supposed to work. The races were designed to be unique.
It cheapens the profession when any non-master can do any changes. I'm not concerned about the time grinding, or even the money to train.... it's the limited skill points. How much would I like to be able to have 107 skill points back and still be able to change skin color on a whim?
It cheapens the gameplay for everyone else, because those freaks of nature are walking around. If you want human hair, be a human. If you want blue hair, be a rhodian.
There are a lot of things we*can* do because Sony dropped the ball on something or another.Just because it's possible doesn't mean it *should* be done.

Oh goody, looks like there's a serious need for some definitions:
An exploit is clearly *not* limited to interrupting others' gameplay - you are confusing exploit with harrassment. An exploit includes anything that abuses the game mechanics in a way they were not intended to gaina personal advantage. Just as example, in EQ folks would chase mobs into walls, so they'd get stuck there and they could kill them safely without the mob attacking them. Does that "interrupt other people's gameplay"? Hell no. Was it intended to be that way? No. Does it give people an advantage over others? Yes, safe xp. People were warned/banned for it daily. Now about giving mon cal's hair - was it intended to be that way? No. Does it give these players an advantage? Yes, having a style that was not intended for their race, which barely anyone has. Exploit is NOT defined according to how much your action 'hurts' another player, that much is certain. Obviously exploits that involve other players in some way are more severe, but the term exploit is not limited to such cases as trade scamming. And as for the term bug, a bug means that something's not working as intended, but that it was never intended to be that way. So yes, the mere ability of being able to do these exploits *is* a bug. But making use of bugs on purpose also equals an exploit - in the example of the wall strategy in EQ, it also was a pathing bug to begin with, but abusing the bug turns it into an exploit on your side.
As said, I mainly think people want these exploits because they don't feel there's enough ID variety for their toon at the moment. I think if that was fixed, maybe these exploits were less sought after.
And as to why it bothers me - Im sorry, but seeing fish with hair is just wrong, no matter what you say. So yes, it does bother me to see people use such exploits. What's next, trandoshans with a lizard face, human torso, mon cal feet and lekkus as hair? You'd probably all disagree that that doesn't sound right. It's the same thing, basically, just an exaggerated case. If there are no limited for race specific styling, we might as well do away with races entirely and let everyone be one of those Frankenstein-like monsters.
I'll support you any day if you want to ask for more variety in the ID options, but I don't condone exploits.
I agree just cuz it is there...don't mean it shouldn't be done..but to actually compare this in all seriousness to the CH bug...lol..that is a laugh.
Don't worry peeps...the devs will fix this...until then just a laugh at all the ppl walking around that look funny..cuz I find it full of laughs. What ppl do to be different...lol.
Don't worry be happy...it will be fixed. ![]()
I have to say that the bugs are awful. I mean, why make a twi'lek if you're going to hide the lekku? It doesn't make sense. That said, maybe wigs could be implemented in the game? Just two or three basic hairstyles per gender that nonhumans can equip if they like. After all, there has been ONE good thing from this issue: Mon Cals with Afros.
I agree with those that have deemed this a bug and exploit. It was never intended to be this way. It does hurt the profession and those who have worked so hard. Totally unfair that a novice image designer/entertain can do these types of changes. I'm all for more variety and uniqueness, but not at the expense of the image design profession. Those of you who say this is no biggy, think about your master profession, be it bh, ch, master doc, etc.. How would you feel if you spent months achieving something to see a low level novice capable of doing the same work that is your bread and butter? A medic giving master doc buffs? A novice tailor making master clothing? A novice armorsmith making composite or making mabari with composite protection? God forbid it be afighting profession?? I can hear the outcry now just thinking of it. Professions are made for a reason, with these types of exploits what is the need for mastering a skill and having them at all if anyone can do it?
I know they will be fixed one way or another, I just want to support those being hurt by this exploit since it REALLY does hurt the profession.
And ok it was funny for about an hour... but lets get back to fantasy... the way swg intended lol

Xazias said it first, but I'll just confirm it. A bug is a flaw in program design. An exploit is defined as "to make use of meanly or unjustly for one's own advantage". So while bugs and exploits aren't one and the same, USING a bug to your own advantage can be defined as an exploit.
12. You will not exploit any bug in Star Wars Galaxies, and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug either directly or through public posting, to any other Sony Station member. You will promptly report such bugs via the /bug command in-game or by emailing [email protected]. Exploitable bugs include, but are not limited to bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits in-game.
Kick them all off I say!

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this, nor have I ever had a request for it. Have I been living under a rock? I don't even understand how it works... /shrug

Maybe noone in your area is doing it for people to see, ask around about, and request. A couple of nights ago I must have gotten three or four requests all in a row while travelling from Theed to Dathomir.

Not to be mean here, but I see people with blue hair all the time in real life... and I'm pretty sure that they're not Rhodians
They sell wigs in the store IRL, and $5 will buy you a bottle of hair dye in almost any color.
While I agree that game-play-wise that certain effects should be limited to the Master Image Designers who worked for the skills, I really have to strongly disagree that the "sense of immersion" is ruined by seeing a Mon Calamri wearing what must obviously be a wig.
Hey, if the fish people want to buy wigs, that's ok with me =)
