Thread: Quick note to the community

I used to love lurking here. It was fun and informative. I never posted much; didn't have much to say. But I did used to really enjoy this forum. Until the overall tone got so negative it was just too depressing to visit anymore. Now I just peek in rarely to see if there's any updates on new features or fixes.

There's nothing wrong with having a dissenting or critical opinion; especially if one also includes some constructive suggestions for changes to what is perceived as the problem. But there's no good reason to be so aggressive and hostile. If I were a new player reading here to find out about being an ID -- I'd run the other way. Do not Stop. Do not Pass Go. Go directly to some other profession. Move along. This is not the profession you are looking for.

It's that negative in here. And that is sad.

I enjoy playing my MID. And my tailor with only 4/4/0/0 ID too. I think all the new features are fantastic. Yes, the timers and xp gains suck. Being less than a novice ID sucks. But heck, we waited how many months to get anything new? Are you telling me we can't wait a few more to get a few things tweaked? I can wait. And I'm having fun while waiting.

I'd rather read threads with suggestions for how to tweak, fix, add. I refuse to read anymore rants. Personal attacks on posters, Devs and Correspondents achieve nothing. If anything, they are setbacks and garner the profession little more than further disrespect.

The players are hostage to IDs now. They can't alter their stats without us so denyingthe service only further infuriates those we supposedly love to tinker on. Myself, I'd rather be part of the solution than part of the problem. And that means remaining positive and constructive, not negative and destructive.

This is my point. The Image Designer boards have become a cespool of negativity, and it is unnecessary for us to act this way. Yeah, I'm not thrilled by the changes... but I am not going to be part of the problem by repeatedly whining that the devs and Kwee hate us.

Go back and read that thread again. Notice how many of us said "…as long as they make us wanted, not needed" and quote that to me again. That's exactly the point—none of the problems that I (and from what I've seen, many of us) have with 8.1 are the actual abilities, they're the implementation. That's what we've been arguing the entire time, and that's what we've continually been ignored on.

I'm sorry, but your justifications for being able to act in a spiteful way are part of the problem.

All Kwee wants from us is civility... why is that so hard for some people? And don't give me the weak answer that we had this time and ability thrust upon us and it is killingyour game... that above link I gave was evidence that some people were cool with the idea before implementation.

Whatever. If acting like a kvetch makes you feel better, go ahead. No one can stop you.

As I said, go back and reread that thread. Then reread my reply about it. It's not the ability itself that's in question, it's the manner in which it was implemented. It's the fact that we received next to no communication during the planning stages. It's that we received next to no communication while the changes were being tested. It's that we've received next to no communication since then.

Put another way, it's not that I think negativity is necessarilly the way to go, it's that I think it's a natural outcome of the treatment we've been subjected to, and the only way it's going to get better is if that mistreatment is recognized and redressed. This is not the first time Kwee has made a post like this, and it won't be the last—because Kwee isn't the one that wronged us. She's never done anything but her utmost for us, and this negativity is neither her fault nor her responsibility, nor is it something she can fix. Only the devs can do that.

Edit: Don't know who 1 star'd Mawie, but as Bri would say: one starring is lame. 5 stars for you.

Ok, it seems that the two of you are not going to agree here. I'm a bit stuck in the middle, because while I feel that a bit of civility would be appropriate anddev bashing is not really called for, I also feel strongly that we should not be curtailed in our desire to complain about the recent changes. What people thought and saidbefore the mini-publishis quiteirrelevant in this respect, it's just a fact that a lot of players are not satisfied these days and these boards reflect that, which is a pity, but not entirely to blame on the posters.

Would you speak to the devs like you are in some posts to their faces?

We have in the past prided ourselves in being a tight-knit, constructive, fun community and I'm just not seeing that much lately.

Who's with me?

I would LOVE the opportunity tell Runesaber what I think about his revamp...in person and face-to-face.

Of course we're a damaged community now. The developers have, imo, adopted the Mushroom Management approach to game development. Keep them in the dark and feed them ****.

I'll be with you after the developers take some concrete action to fix the problems they've created. Apparently sometime this winter after publishes 9 & 10, combat rebalance, JTLS, smuggler revamp...

So insulting someone and calling them derogatory names is not negativity..an interesting viewpoint. At no time did anyone resort to calling you names...or demeaned your right to express an opinion. For someone so interested in civility that is an interesting double standard.

Um, I never said "You're a Kvetch" to anyone. It was more of a general people are gonna kvetch statement and there is nothing I can do about it. No denying that.

And the disagreement we are having is more along the lines where we see where the other person is coming from (trust me, I do). I just think getting mad over it is beat.

And I should guess the person who thinks I have double standards one starred me. Honestly, the starring system means crap to me. One star away, el one star bandits. I five star everything to boost egos, personally.

Again, I respectfully disagree. The devs flat out stated they expected negative feedback on the stat migration change in particular. I maintain that if we go back to how we were we just say to them "you were right. In the end, we're sheep and we'll only bleat for but so long before we forget and munch happilly from your hand again." Not me. I will continue to tell them the decision was a bad one, and if I have to I'll do it in an unconstructive way—because I've tried time and again being constructive with no apreciable outcome…so why bother?

Well, then this brings up the point... if they aren't listening to you EITHER way (constructive OR not), then why bother at all? Honestly. I long ago realized that I mean NOTHING to SOE... so why should I get worked up over something I have no control over? I dunno, when I see those posts where people are leaving the game because SOE is horrible to them, how much do you thinkthe devs or the big guyscare? I would guess not much. A lost $15 here and there isn't going to break them.

This comes down to the point that they cannot please everybody. In fact, in this case, they have magnaminously displeased 95% of the player base. That sucks, I agree. However, the only way Sony is gonna take the hint that they messed up is if EVERY LAST PLAYER cancles their account and stops playing... and honestly, what are the chances of that? Especially over a profession that most people have little regard for to begin with.

Funny, that sounds pretty negative to me…actually, it sounds a lot like what I've been saying. Maybe we're not so different after all.
