Thread: Brainstorm: How to make Novice ID'ers desirable for customers without gimping MID's ;)

Remove timers from cosmetic changes, but keep the timer on stat migrations and have it be the same time for any stage of the profession from novice to master. This gives the novice the ability to gain the same customers as a Master, and also allows the masters to toss the novices to the rancors... err, farm out stat migrations to the poor novices for that much needed xp. Players will be able to seek out any ID'er and get the same service with stat migrations, but still gives masters the full palattes and benefits of being a Master ID for cosmetic changes.

At master ID, give the master back the ability to type in: /imagedesignself eye_color 14 (but only have it work on themselves, not others). Why? I think it's utterly cool to see Dancers and Musicians change their hair color, make up, etc in sync to match their outfits. Or maybe when they reach 4 in any thing. At 4 in body markings, they can change their own body markings with a typed command, etc.

This may also help with the xp as well. After deciding how long it should take, then dividing down how much xp is needed per box to advance, you make the amount of xp gained from comestic changes equal the same as one stat migration for the same amount of time. IE: If it takes ten minutes to stat migrate, and you get 2000xp to do it, and you get 30xp per eye color change, in that same amount of time no matter how many times you click to grind it out, you still only get 2000xpin that same time period. But if you only do three comestic changes in that ten minute period, you get 90xp.

I like the idea of moving EVERYTHING out of the Master Box, except for shortened Timers.

I also would like to see the most requested changes on the bottom of the skill tree, instead of the top. e.g. Size changes should be Body I, not Body IV.

I'd like to see Image Design XP be a form of group XP that can be shared, like Scouting, or perhaps like Squad Leader.

ID missions, this is needed badly they would give novice a fun way to fine tune their skills and get exp. Plus equires no new artwork.

by adding Terminals for MIDs only, MIDswill move out of the NPC tents leaving them fornovice IDers and they will have move customers to work with.

Bodypaints could make Novice IDinga lot moredesirable; give novice bright colors and masters could get metallic colors. and have the time they last base on number of skill boxs the ID has, instead of increasing his color pallette. Starting at 1-hour and adding 5mins per box.

The problem with adding new colors is that we kind of screwed ourselves with the "enhancement." You see, colors as we see them don't actually exist—they're just a reference to an array location…so when you see a blue Twi'lek, they aren't really blue, they're twilek_skin_color[53] or the like. Now, the reason this is problematic is that with the number of new colors we have we've reached a hard limit in the coding—in order to add more colors they would either have to add room for another full 256 colors, or add an entirely new palette, both of which would double the amount of DB space required just for skin color.

In other words, don't expect to see this anytime soon, if ever.

Hmm? I agree a new aditional pallettes would have to be added, butI don't think it will have to be 256 I'm thinking that 256 is the limit. It would increase the DB but not for all characters just for the ones that have an active bodypaint, so instead of tens or hundreds of thousands of added DBs they have a few hundred if that.

It is going to be hard to make novice IDs very desirable just because there is a lot of the population that just doesn't feel "uber" enough unless all of their goods and services come from a master. They just feel that all masters are inherently better, even though with all the hologrinding this isn't even close to being true anymore. The best example I can think of are all the armorsmiths and chefs who will only get their components from a master even though a novice can do the job just as well. Somehow master synthetic cloth is thought of as "better".

Anyway, I think that the best thing to do to help novice image designers is to let master image designers have their own tents. That will still make the NPC city tents a gathering place for mostly novices. The XP in tents should go up to encourage this also. Most masters will then set up shop away from the novice image designers and not be in direct competition.

Of course, there is still going to be a significant number of players who walk into a tent full of novice image designers and if they don't see a master there will complain that they can't find an image designer to migrate their stats anywhere. Thats just the way people are sometimes.

Without new art content, I'm not sure.

Education: Right now, I think that education may be the most needed aspect to improve the non-Master IDs chances at getting work thanks to the added feature.

1) Tuesday Tips to explain and provide general awareness to the Public that Novice ID and Master ID identical for purposes of Stat Migration.

2) Friday Feature going over ID abilities, the when and how.

New Features:

3) Any new features [such as those implemented/added for the GCW interactivity] would have to be viable at non-master levels.

Negative Adjustment:

4) Rescind the master ID timer reduction for others.

Commentary on others comments:

Sz: Fun idea, but would reflect one of the older problems with folks seeking out Master-ID, as there's alot of desire for the Max Setting Torso change... Oh and doubling the amount of possible values doesn't double the data structure size, it only increases it by one bit. Now the correspondant information [ie, the color matrix] would have twice as much space, but that's static content and not strenous on the server [it gets shunted to the client].

Sir Voor: Missions would rock, but not really help the non-master ID get player clients

Aside from education though, I'm not sure what would significantly help the ID profession in this regard because there simply a predisposition of the client base to desire to seek out Masters in a given profession when they seek service. However, unlike most other professions, higher skill for an Image Designer doesn't really make them any better at the service, it simply gives them more options [ie, the schematic benefit of Crafters, but sans the improved experimentation/crafting bonus].

Having some specials "holoemote" that we can give only for some professions, using others charges than those we got actually.

For example, some special for dancer, musicien of course... but not only !A squad leader can use some special holoemotes to rally or get orders to his group, something more visuals that what we see actually. Or a CH to give some orders to the pet...

I want some haircuts we can see on NPC, but that is not in your possibles choices, for example i seen in jabba place a zabrak with a human hairstyle.

New haircuts it s what ppl ask me the much.

We could use ID tent material if an archi build it... In our home, or cantinas, to make some attractions points in city players.

Or at least a droid module.

We should do some temporary changes, for example someone got a style... but he wants us to change his look for 1 or 2 hours only, like a buff, then at the end of time he ll become like he was.

When will we be able to make ID on merchants and vendors from players ?

How about ID mission rewards that let do a new type of ID?

this would require a limit number of new art,but only a few, a very few. For example lets say they added three tattooes, rebel, imp and jabba. For a IDer to get an Imp tatooe he/she most do a Imp ID mission. The reward of an Imp tatooe would be a one time use only and require a novice IDer to use. So the IDer has the fun of doing a mission AND it gives customers a very cool star warsy reason to see him. Now tatooe was just a example it could be any ID thing, hairstyle rights to go over the slider limits, bodypaint, etc

Also this would be a fun time sink for IDers, I say that because I think devs love time sinks.

I agree with Sir Voor. ID terms to help new ID's along would aid those who are of a race that cannot ID themselves, though master ID hardly seem to need tents or terms after the upcoming changes.
