great idea! i would love to make some and stick them in the vendor for my city's mall.
a suggestion: if this goes through, there should be something included, like the "Artisan experimentation," that let's the ID further customize it. like, the experementation points would make the "box" have more charges, or something like that.
I am all for the idea of ID being able to craft a holoemoter box!

ID Advertsing. Maybe Make Holoemotes Craftables. I have tons of customers who just want refills on emotes. ITs somewhat of a pain to travel all that way just for something that could be made into a craftable.
Some sort of GCW Function. Many indications of disguise kits have been brought up
okay so this is a statment made in the ID Top 5(14) but didnt want to clutter up the thread cause i have a feeling this is going to be more than just my comment. I know that there are several ID out there that say "but i dont want to craft anything" well why not make it both? I personally love the idea of a craftable holoemote box. however, i know that several of the ID are against it 100% as they dont want to have to craft anything. why cant they leave the holo system as it is for the ID session, where you can recieve the holobox' directly from the ID with a click of a button, and also implement an actual craftable "box". upon "examine" the box should say Holoemote Box: A box containing emotes in holographic form created by an image designer. Type /holoemote help to use. and once they type /holoemote help ... they recieve their holoemotes and the box goes poof.
Please please please say you agree that this would be okay .. it isnt limiting it to just a crafting item .. just extending it to a crafting itme.
what do you think?

Quite frequently, I get tells for holoemotes. While doing that, often my customers will then add requests for skin color changes, hair changes, etc, since they already have me at thier disposal. I really feel that if they can get holoemotes on the bazzar, I won't see a goodly portion of my patrons, because they can get the emotes easily without seeing me. They will just forego the makeover, in order to get the quick and easy holoemote. If an ID wants to craft, they should pick up a craft- not look to ID for it.

i think ive had one customer come in specifically for holoemote, so i dont see where it would be a problem. holoemotes are usually a side note to other imaging alteration sessions. And ID NEEDS something to make them a more needed profession. Right now we are frivolous to the majority of SWG. Ppl come to us when they wanna look pretty, they dont NEED an ID.
If they could add a time limit to image changes where after so many days/hours whatever your colors would all revert to "ordinary settings" ... the scars issue, the tatoos ... giving us more content that ppl can relate to, especially the hardcore combatants who have no concern for their looks (couldnt tell you how many ive come across who are like ... the money i make WORKING is far more precious than your time!!! - /gag /puke /addignore). But the point is, WE NEED A NEEDED FUNCTION!!! Everyone else in this game has a function that is NEEDED in some form or another. If you say "combat isnt NEEDED" actually it is, as you cant harvest creatures without killing them.
ID are just sort of there, floating around ... la la la la la ... let me make you pretty.Stat migration was a nice push in the "needed" category for ID, but it isnt enough. Giving us something to craft opens up another form of income resource for us.

If we had something like a disguise kit (timed for x many minutes- makes you appear the opposite faction or something), or really ANYTHING other than what we are already able to do in person, I would be all for a craftable item. Making something like holoemotes, a makeup kit, etc, anything we already do in person, craftable, isn't really creating a new market. It's allowing people to get it through a bazaar, and thereby avoid us. You may have only gotten 1 person in for a holoemote, but I get about 5 daily. 4 of those 5 will then ask about other services I provide, and walk away with at least one other change, but usually a whole makeover. This is almost like saying, "You want fries with that?" Take that away, and it cuts my daily patronage by 1/3.

I have to disagree with you. I don't think that IDs need any function other than to make people look pretty at all. I like being a "frivalous" profession - it means that those who come to me tend to value my time and company more because they're not just after something to help them fight better. For instance, since Stat Migration was given to us, I dealt with a hell of a lot more "Smacktards" than I did pre-revamp, and it was hugely less fun as they took ages and didn't involve any creativity at all. I can't remember who it was that said it, it was a while ago, around the time of the revamp, but it's my mantra for ID. "We need to be wanted, not want to be needed" or something along those lines. Because when people want you, rather than need you, they tend to be a hell of a lot more fun.
See, I truely believe that anyone coming to the ID profession to fulfil a critical role or to make a load of money has come to the wrong place. ID for me has always been about socialisation and creativity. It is like no skill I have come across in my admittedly limited experience of MMORPGs. It allows nearly complete freedom of creativity, using a system that leaves no two people the same and I love that. I love the way that it's not as perscribed as, say, tailor (which is a great profession) where I get told "I want a red shirt" and I make a red shirt. Instead I get asked for my opinion a lot more, to help with suggestions, to offer advice. Adding "critical functions" is not going to increase that, if anything Luaren's right, we'll just lose face-to-face ID customers.
Personally I believe that desperately clawing around for critical functions is only going to make life as an ID more stressful and full of idiots...Stat Migration is a fine example of this. More content, sure, but I'm against critical functions.

I completely agree with Polos. Another concern I have with having something craftable is resources. Many IDs, especially the new ones, might not have the credits/resources to make whatever.
Image Designer, in my opinion, is one of the hardest professions in the game to be good at. Sure, there's combat where you can die, but anyone can spam Strafe Shot 2 and Headshot 3, it takes a whole other person to put up with the tells and things that IDs have to put up with. It takes a people person. I don't need or want my ID to have things that are critical to the game, I have enough fun, tells, and things to do with ID as it is.
I think I'd go nuts if I had someone send me a tell saying "do u have this in stok? could u make me some?" Arg. Crafting is not my thing

Holoemote charge box? Terrible idea (my own opinion!). I actually have had quite a few people come to me just for holoemotes, so for me negating the need for people to seek out an ID is an issue. Couple that with the fact that whenever I stat migrate people I usually offer holoemotes, and most of the time they have no idea what I'm talking about. This gives me the opportunity to explain them and show off some of the effects while waiting for the migration... i.e. interacting with them (the horror!).
I also have to throw in my hat with the "ID Crafting BAD!!" crowd. I'm an ID/Tailor with enough crafting to do, thank you. In fact I usually use my time lounging in the Salon to craft inbetween tells and stat migrations.
The only real negative things I've found with holoemotes remaining the way they are is that few players seem to be aware of them (or they just assume they're dancer/musician abilities
), and the beehive emote... just not... sure about that one. lol.
I don't think we need to alter them, I don't think we need more of them (necessarily.. I wouldn't complain if there were), they're fun, they're cool, they're animated, they have faction options at the first level... they're just great!
Not broke... don't fix.

okay, so crafting them ... bad idea ... but they just arent used enough by other players. they were cool for like the first 24 hours, but then they just seemed to disappear.

no way, i like the fact that these items are non-craftables, gives me something to do and sell infront of starports like docs !!
