Thread: New Image Designer Screenshots

I bet there are some very creative players who could use these to good effect when performing a play, rallying the troops, or roleplaying a mute character but I can see why some people might not like the idea of these holo-emotes.
Honestly the first thing that poped into my mind was that emotional shorthand used in certain anime style cartoons for young kids. You know, the little kid throws his ball, the creature does not come out, and a big giant tear appears over his head to express his sadness/embarassment.
This isan excellentdescriptionof how Holo emotes could be used. They aresingle useand only exist for a brief moment.
Keep in mind, this is a new use of the technology and to a certain extent, we had to go "over the top" to see what kind of effect they have. As with most new things put into the game, this is just the beginning. From here, it is onward and upward.

An additional holo-emote will be featured in this month's Newsletter (which should go out tonight or tomorrow).
ditto
Please check the syntax of the email address listed on your station account. Sometimes there are spelling errors or sometimes even old email addresses are listed. Another common problem is that many firewall and anti-virus software programs screen it out.
I am also excited to announce that we have a SWG newsletter archive that will be live soon ![]()

is it me or does this tent seem like its in the middle of nowhere? perhaps maybe we can place it anywhere we want.
It is in the middle of the desert becausethat isa genericdesign/build environment. The ID tentsare not placed in player cities, but have been added to static cities. The live Image Designer tents are located in Theed, Moenia, Coronet, Bestine and Vreni Island.

What are the holo-emotes for?
They are just short little "expressions" that appear for a brief time over the players heads. In the future we will be able to add more types and images.

On a constructive note; I think the skull Holo-Emotes would look much cool if its handle point was moved down so the skull would be around the head. So the skull's eyes are at the same level as the character's eyes.
That was what we wanted to do, but some of the character models at their max head sizes poked through the effect and swallowed up the holo-emote.

I love reading the IDs replies to this thread. Has anyone else noticed that they added TERMINALS for image design. That means you DON'T NEED A PLAYER. Now if you want image design you just go to a terminal. That's a bad thing for ID players.
Image Designers can still do everything wherever they are standing. The tents reduce the time it takes by half and the ID booths are to facilitate stat migration.

I think holo emotes is a fun direction for the player base and I hope to see new facial and hair designs.
We do want to add more tatoos, hairstyles, etc in the future. They can't be done currently because its a huge amount of modelling work. Every hairstyle has to have scalability for all appropriate races and tatoos are even more tricky since they are images that could be applied to any and every possible avatar configuration.
The holo-emotes are an excellent first step to accomplishing many of those goals with new technology.

the stuff looks cool, but i have2 concerns.
is there an option to turn it off and how much more lag will this cause?
Its only a couple of seconds. It will cause no lag. It uses a "particle effect" system which is different than the avatar polygons. Of course, if you are in a place with 50+ people there will always be lag.

Nice screenshots.
I hopethat using thenew particle effects onholo emoteare just the first step. Eventually they should put them on other area in the game, likeimproving the combateffects,R2 sending out hologram message, etc. SWG is already one of the best looking gamein graphics department and it is good that the developers are still trying to improve it.
This is correct ![]()

I actually just checked my own settings on this, since I don't ever remember receiving a newsletter. My email address is entered correctly, and I have the box checked to "receive SWG newsletter". But I have never once received a newsletter. I have had the form filled out for several months.
Can you check into this TH? I think something's broke.
I would like to add I as of yet have not recieved the Newsletter and I have signed up for it twice and checked my email.
You may check your spam blocker, most will see the news letter as spam and block it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news LadyLeala, but everything on this end is functioning correctly. Are you using a hotmail type of service? Some types of free email systems screen out the email as part of their anti-spam systems.
To remedy this, we'll have the newsletter archive for you.
