Thread: Here is what I sent Thunderheart/Runesabre...
- What critical function can Image Designers perform in SWG?
- How can you and I accomplish adding this function while preserving the unique playstyle of the Image Designer?
Top ID fears, regarding a critical function:
- A GCW related function would make them subject to TEF’s and attack
- Players would be forced to visit ID’ers, and resent them for it
- If dev time were spent on a critical function(s), it would take the place of any non-critical ID wish list items
I’ve divided our wish lists items (both old and post-Runesabre’s-post) into four different categories. These items survived ID community discussion and voting, and all have majority support. Thank you for reading, hope this is helpful, and again thank you for setting time aside for the Image Designer community.
Please let me know if we need to flesh any ideas out. We have not hashed some of the newer ideas out yet.
Functions that might be considered critical:
1/ Disguises
-Lower various negative factions, possibly also lower positive factions as a balance; Are given via a visit to ID’er or via a disguise kit purchased from an ID’er; Temp duration
-Offer some protection against bounty hunter detection, for when bounties extend to others besides Jedis
-Re-covert overts – an alternate method with some benefit
-Make you less likely to be stopped for a crackdown/smackdown - can’t remember what the second one’s called
Reason? You blend into the crowd, why would they pick on someone that doesn’t look suspicious?
2/ ID building with function
-Doubles as social interaction spot and city bldg for Image Designers (advertising, visibility)
-New function(s) could be connected to object(s) in bldg, but would require the presence of an Image Designer
-Some examples: Hot tubs that speed up stat migration, a mud bath or steam room that gives a charisma bonus, a disguise counter for applying disguises…
-Could also be used (though not required) for hairstyling, tattooing, plastic surgery, personal training, makeup artistry
3/ Charisma bonuses
-The premise is that improving your look enhances how others view you, and makes you appear and feel more charismatic and confident. Such an effect could domino through various areas of a player’s life…
-Some ideas: Higher mission payouts, Politician bonuses, Better buffs...
Functions that affect another profession:
1/ Ability to ID Vendors (Merchant)
-Customer (and others nearby) would be able to see potential changes on a life-size, projected image of themselves
-Would allow customer to preview several changes at once
4/ Poster Ads – Public Relations
-Could be created by Image Designers and placed on city bulletin boards for others to read.
-Some ideas: Could advertise roleplay events, a merchant’s store, a PA, or a politician
Other Image Designer Wish List Items:
-Hairstyle icons are tiny, not resizable, and you cannot determine what they represent
-You cannot preview what a hairstyle might look like on someone before offering it
-Would like a way to stop person from fidgeting, especially wild head gyrations
-Way to register on global map, ID building, craftables to put on bazaar, some type of paper ad that can be placed on bazaar

Look good, very good![]()
But you missed my biggest fear that they will add critical function before adressing issue of XP gain, So there is one thing I would change.
Top ID fears, regarding a critical function:
- A GCW related function would make them subject to TEF’s and attack
- Players would be forced to visit ID’ers, and resent them for it
- If dev time were spent on a critical function(s) and addressing XP gain issues (which must be done before adding any critical functions)these would take the place of any non-critical ID wish list items
Just as a reminder of what has been alreaddy said, hopefully the devs have already read them.

Before anycritical function is added the issue of XP gain needs to be addressed. As it is now with the right setup a player can become a IDer in a few hours, but there is no power gamer reason to do so. (unless you are holocroning) But if an critical function is added on Friday by Sunday there will be 100,000+ IDers. So ether redo the XP gain system for ID or drop these not so popular idea of adding critical function.
P.S. IF the critical function is a craft able (ai: disguise kit that hide faction) then some players will spendthe few hours to be master IDs then set factories to make a life time supply and drop IDing.
Just something to think about...
Oh wow. Good point…I totally forgot about the XP gain thing. So…yeah. If ID starts to become a critical profession, skill gain does need to be addressed—but as I've said in the past regarding that, if skill gain is slowed more useful aesthetic content needs to be added to the lower boxes. Which means more new content needs to be added to the higher boxes. Yeah…call me pessimistic, but that is so not going to happen.
Those are also good points, and with the dev time it would take to revamp the ID XP system, add tons ofnew content, and critical function they couldmake anew profession. (Like Miner, Artist, Spy or Singer.) So like you I don't see it happening, besides what wrong with have ONE easy and non-fuction profession?
I do have one thought on theXP gain issue, not a total fix by any means just something to help it. When a Image Designer is high on spice s/he should have an chance for an critical failure. Not just one that stops the ID, but one that hurts/wounds the IDer or ID customer, something like what happens when you /sample radioactive stuff. Would you want your plastic surgeon to be on spice?

Nice work Kwee. You work well with your community and I appreciate your effort.
I have reviewed the information you have provided and have found it extremely helpfulin deciding on a direction going forward with the Image Designer profession.
So, uh, any chance we get to know what that direction is? Maybe just a little hint?
