Thread: Can I Continue?

Hey all, the last few days have proved to be sad ones for me indeed. As some may know I have been limiting my game time and so when I do get on, I usually get involved in some very intense roleplay in which I really do not wish to stop and travel some where to do ID. It kind of breaks the mood when you say "/g wait I have to go to <insert name> to see a client." Now don't get me wrong. I absolutley adore Image Design and when I have more game time, have no problems dashing across the galaxy to do ID for some one. I'm a little spacey, I'll admit, and have, now and again, forgotten to turn my MID tag off (I also didn't realize that server reset reactivates my title and so I need to turn it off every time I log in)

Well the problem is this, and it's not so much a problem as it's very disturbing to me that people could be so rude. The last three days my conversations have gone something like this:

Client: what's your ID prices?

Me: 1k per mod 3k for skin colour

...silence....

Client: okay... Come to <insert name> and do some ID for me

Me: I'm sorry, but I am a little busy right now and can't make it.

Client: well you should turn your *edit* title off if your not going to do your profession

Me: Thank you, I'll try to remember that

At which point client usually rattles off more profanities and other such inane bs that causes me to use the /addignore feature, which I don't like to do. Now I don't think I have been rude to any one about not being able to come to them. I am not obligated to interuppt what I am doing to travel some where and meet a client. Today I turned my title off (put a post-it note on my monitor to remind me) and enjoyed a quiet few hours of hunting and RP. It was such a relife, infact, that I am wondering if I should continue with Image Design or give it up all together.

Has any one else experianced issues like this? And if so, what have you done about it?

/anon works wonders if people are using the search tool.

I'm a very, VERY blunt person. And I don't do anything I don't want to do. If I don't feel like doing ID on someone, I tell them. If they don't like it, they can scratch and get glad, because I really don't care. I'm sure you've noticed this before... but I don't sugarcoat things, LOL. I can say things without being rude, but I can also be very, very pissy if people get too pushy. For example, if a conversation were to go like this:

Random person: Can you give me a makeover
Me: I'm not working right now... sorry! :/
Random person: Awwww, come on, plz plz plz I tip good
Me: No, I'm sorry.
Random person: plz plz plz plz plz.....

This is where I start to get rude. How dare other players think they can dictate MY gameplay and what I do with MY time? This is generally when I tell them, not always nicely, to go away. If I'm feeling generous, I just ignore them. If I'm not, they get the business end of my rather sharp tongue.

Basically, your game time is just that... YOUR game time. You do what you want. It's your 15 bucks a month. And if you want to wear your title.. go for it! You earned it! Just because you have it on doesn't mean you are OBLIGATED to do ID work on any schmuck that comes along. It's your prerogative to work on people at your leisure, and if they don't like that or understand that, they can go somewhere else. The people who DON'T understand that your game time is yours, and yours alone, probably aren't the kind of people you want as clients anyway.

I was playing last night and there was some random n00b running around begging everyone he saw for money. Now, I totally sympathize with new players... God knows, I was there once myself. But if they ASK for money, on principle, they don't get it. So, eventually he gives up and spots me and my master ID title. He asks if I can do some work on him... I tell him no. He asks me why, and I tell him it's because he doesn't have the money to pay me. He proceeds to spew profanities at me and tell me I'm a **edit** and that he's going to report me. I tell him to be my guest. Last night was just not my night for player relationships, LOL.

There are times I need to turn my title off to get some peace and quiet in the game. I also combat this by playing mysecond character a bit more lately.

Altho, last night I got a /tell from someone who was refered to me by a good friend. They wanted a whole new look and I figured "oh well, it's for a friend of a friend, I don't care if I get ripped off for no tip". So the person came, a female Twi'lek dancer. And I changed, skin color, eye color, lip color, lekku style and pattern and color, came out really nice with the color scheme I suggested. I got lucky. He boyfriend was there while I did all this and he was drooling over my changes. She was happy, she tipped me 100k for the session. So was the boyfriend who tipped me 50k. All and all a good ID session

I feel your pain Rashida…and I have a feeling I've dealt with some of the exact same idiots. Personally, I always have /anon on, and I have a startup macro I run that turns off my title (/setcurrentSkillTitle) and does a couple other things (sets mood, sets language, joins a couple chat channels.) The other thing I've found that seems to work on Kettemoor, is that when asked for pricing if I'm busy RPing, or killing things, I won't even quote a price—I just say that I'm busy and can't ID right now. I also never travel for anyone but friends. I'll walk from one side of Coronet to the other, if you're any further than that you come to me. I guess what it comes down to is what Fuschia said: your $15 a month, your play time, so do what makes you happy and what you consider fun. To that end I'd suggest checking out n'Jessi's article on staying sane in tailoring—a lot of it holds true in ID and any social/support profession. Make rules and stick to them, it'll really help in the long run. (Or you could change your title to Novice Entertainer and not worry about forgetting to turn it off… )

Aww how awful to geta rash of meanies like that. For one I never travel to someone Well except for two times that there were very specific reasons it was necessary, one guy that wanted to look like Han Solo and was standing next to him, and a girl that was roleplaying she had been bitten by a cyberdog and had been confined to her house by her rp town In my experience, the rude ones are not willing to travel If they go on and on add them to /ignore, you don't need their business anyway. Good luck! Don't let meanies get you down!

i dont generally get real nasty people for ID, but i have had a few moan a bit.

Like fuschia im not one to be pushed around, i never go to them, im never not busy, if they find me il ID them, if im in bestine on a resource run il meet them in cantina,if im waiting for shuttle - tuff, if im in my shop i email them the wp, if they dont come -tuff.

for a while i was tipped fairly on average (10k average i found) when i asked them to tip me what they felt best, but now ive had 3 people in a row, just walk off after i finish without paying a penny. So i dont have my ID tag upnow (use master of armour design, kinda like that tittle) till the publish 8 goes in, then i can garuntee getting paid for my work, and maybe even set up my own price list ( i plan to price based on time but not tell them that as i dont want to make them feel rushed)

What I've done is made an E-mail with my prices for both Ahazi and Starsider. If someone asks me the price, I e-mail them that. It goes on to say that since slicers were fiddling with the bank system I only accept cash, no exceptions. And there's a link to plasmaworks if they need help. It's put together like a salon's posted advertizement

I've recently had to make a /reply that informs them that they've recieved an E-mail with my prices.

I don't travel outside of the city (reasons like Kwee mentioned, I'd travel for that no problem). If they don't like my prices that's their problem.

I do make exceptions based on if I think they should be made. One guy had only recently made his character and had accidentally made himself old. SO I went to fix it. (he kept asking me if I saw it but my video card isn't nearly that cool) but it was the youngest it could be. crtl L didn't help... I dunno what was wrong with the guy, but when I made him the oldest that DEFINITELY wasn't it hehehehehe. He kept saying he wanted to look "young" ... well buddy, that's as young as you'll get.

And there was a younger entertainer I'd seen around who needed a hair change and couldn't afford my prices. She was seriously going to wait, she was polite, and a different entertainer said she'd pay for everything.... I did the changes (just hair style for both.) and told them not to worry about it. I'm a dancer too, I know how tough it can be... and a simple change like that I was willing to let go of, especially since they were not AFK... they were polite and had basically caught my fancy

Did the same thing for skin color on one girl who was blinding me with her paleness. THe moment she said she wished she were a bit more tan I leapt on her. hehe.

Sometimes I get stiffed (hence sending the reply now. IF they don't agree, I don't work.) sometimes I get a heck of a lot more than I asked for. But I havn't been badgered yet.

I DID have a guy come... stiff me... then come BACK while I was dancing on Dathomir. He said thanks a lot, that he'd keep my e-mail "just in case" .... I dunno. But a guy who can afford 10k buffs (which he did after my first round of ID) so he can put on his composite armor, so he can hunt on Dathomir (I've taken missions to help my guild, I know what they pay ) Seems like he can afford me.

All in all, it's not so bad. And on the 27'th my title will go down so I can play with our new toys! Then I'll probably stalk Kwee's posts and figure out what her new pricing system is... and I'll follow it. MUAHAHHAAHA! Nothing worse than having a Bothan stalk your posts. (Irys)

I just tell them that "I'm sorry but I'm not currently IDing" and when they mention the title I tell them "I'm sorry but the server insists on giving me one when I log on, sorry about that." Then I won't say anything more.

One way to get around the title is to log out with a title on (Novice Entertainer for example) and it will give you that when you log in.

Listen to these people though. /addignore 'ing a meanie doesn't hurt..you really don't want their business anyway!
