Blair on the topic of cheaters and exploiters...

You'll have to hang onto that link for the next time someone insists they're allowed to use an exploit until they're told not to.

you'll also note they said they will be taking the same action to anyone using ANY exploit from here on out.
Amen.
Personally i think this was long over due. But im glad they are starting to deal with exploits the way they shouldve been dealing with them from the start.
I never thought I would say this but, I think they should have given a warning, something like "We know you did that, it's an exploit, and do it again, and you're banned." With correspondents asking for feedback on exploits so that gathered data may be accurate before transmission to the devs, it is entirely likely that community members have tried to replicate a bug/exploit for testing purposes, but have not used it for personal gain.
Summarily banning exploiters may only succeed in chilling communication between the correspondents and the community, because the community would be reluctant to report any exploits that they may have come across, and would not touch those exploits with a ten foot pole, even when data needs to be gathered.
I must respectfully disagree. Giving exploiters free reign to do whatever they want until they're warned sends exactly the wrong message to the 'sploiters. If it means that data collection only happens with the internal QA people I think it's a small price to pay.

The exploit had to do with smugglers slicing weapons multiple times. I'm not sure of the details, it's bound to be on the smuggler forums.
I do agree that people should be given warning, though. It is possible some smugglers didn't even know it was happening.
Threads like this make me doubt summary banning.

I know this guy who is posting. To be completely honest, I don't particularly like him: I've known him since daoc and he rubs me the wrong way. But, even so,I'm pretty sure he didn't do this. He's not an exploiter.
I find it strange that punishment for this exploit has been publicized, when others, if any, have not. I find it also strange that many players, including the reputable one that I know, are protesting these actions. I find it puzzling, as well, that it seems almost impossible for these players to have sliced as often as is being cited (a single weapon 92 times).
I am all for the crackdown on exploits, but I honestly don't know what to make of the recent bannings. Whether the players did these things or not, I hope that they get a proper and fair investigation. Even exploiters deserve that.
