Get in touch with ID's on your server and ask around what they charge and go from there. The sticky thread "find a ID on your galaxy" thread is a good place to start.

For two examples from Starsider, check the following sites:

www.geocities.com/swgbodyworks

swg.atomicspacekitty.com

Bottom line - ~5k per feature changed and 50k for a stat migration if that's all they want. While it may seem a lot for stat migration, remember its all you can do for 10 minutes and you'd get more xp doing other stuff.

Ignore the prices on the bodyworks website. They are so friggin insane, I charge about 1/10th of that 250-500 per change(depending on my mood) and 5k for a stat migration, the 5 k gets you stats migrated and as many changes as you want during the 10 minute timer.

If you're getting started, don't worry too much about prices. Especially through the Entertainer skill line. Charge whatever you think you can get away with.

It's really difficult to sell your skills through the novice entertainer skill line in my experience, so don't try too hard.

I see a lot of novice entertainers offering free id to people, just so they can skill. I think part of this is because people don't think of novice entertainer when they go to look for an image designer, so people rarely if ever ask novice ents to do it. Plus people are after the new colors, stat mig, and holo emotes, which the new ents can't do.

Back on topic, what to charge....

Prices really are different from most id to id. Some people just ask that the person tip what they feel is fair for the their services, others I've "heard" asking for 10-50k for a stat change etc.

Who's insane? Me for setting prices that properly reflect my cost for doing an ID (yes I have master fencer so I can hunt to make 30-40k in the time it takes to do a stat migration) and still have plenty of customers. Or you (Bumhucca) for charging less than you could make?

Once you start charging a low price you will never be able to increase. You can however lower your rates if you so desire (which I frequently do for newbs and entertainers).

I'm just asking for what people seem fair and I'm averaging 10k or so for stat migration and 2k-5k for
image work. (I'm not a master yet though.)

Up the ent line, don't charge as much asa full ID for what you can do (for 2 reasons, one of being to lure customers over, the other to gain experience). Once you hit novice ID, charge the full price for stat migration, and maybe half of what other IDs are charging for the rest.

Any single mod: 10k
Complete makeover (any mods you want): 20k
Stat migration: 50k
Holo Emotes: 10k for the whole set

But I also give the holo emotes free with any ID session.

And, Image Designer is the ONLY profession I do and the
only way I make money which is why I don't work off of tips
and this looks expensive to some.

Generally customers ask for a mod, I tell them prices are
in my bio, and about 40% of them walk away grumbling.

I've only charged people who are not of my faction. Most of the time I tell them "Whatever you think is fair" and have been tipped an average of 8k/stat session. I don't charge new players and usually throw in a set of holos. Keep in mind that while this may be an elite profession, it only takes up 93 sp leaving a lot of room for you to master another profession. I started this profession May 18 and hope to finish June 6. It's been a real hard grind and I wish those coming up a lot of luck. Find a friendly crafter/dancer/musician who can earn some xp in the tent with you and work your magic on them. When pub 9 is released the stat migration xp will be a great improvement and this should drive the price down, thus helping the non-MIDs along.

I was just wondering what kind of prices everyone else asks for when they do special request clothing. I find that more and more people are coming to me with requests for clothing and often they require a "fitting" as they aren't surewhat colours or types of clothes they desire. In cases like this a tailor needs time and patience to deal with someone who knows nothing of the tailor profession and I feel as though it often isn't worth the cash I earn from it. Perhaps it would be better to charge according to time spent rather than items bought but I wondered if anyone else does this? Also if someone asks you for a 4 socket shirt and it takes 10 efforts to get a 4 socket shirt, do you charge them for all 10 shirts?

personally, I do not charge any more for special orders over items bought off my vendor. My prices are a little higher than average (based on what I have seen on other vendors*) so it evens out.
One thing I do is ask a lot of questions. If they want blue, I ask dark or light, dusty or bright, etc.
And I can put any rejected items on my vendor or the bazaar. I have rarely had to make an item more than 2x to get the color what they wanted. However, if they are asking for special names, they are going to pay for any that I cannot sell.

As for sockets - gah, I find this so darn annoying!!! - recently I have seen an increase in demands for 4 sockets. It is obvious the community at large either does not know, or does not care that this has been nerfed to high heaven and become a menace to us tailors!!! I live in a research town, have +15 crafting tool and a +43 wall station, master artisan/master tailor ... and lately I am lucky to get even 3 sockets and 4 are a bloody miracle!!! IMO there is NO excuse for this whatsoever.
In the past I have not charged for re-tries, for same reasons above, but I am seriously considering changing my stance on that - or telling ppl I will make X tries and after that they can accept or find another tailor. I made 15 small pocket belts last week before I got 4 sockets, that is too many tries on a relatively low selling item.

*other vendors prices. When I first made master, I roamed around and looked up a lot of tailors vendor prices, made a spreadsheet and figured the average for my server. I have also used the tailor calculator (before it went kaput) and adjusted prices a little. I have never had but one complaint about my prices, and that one was someone who wanted everything for nothing anyway.

so... in a nutshell....
My advice on pricing is to put afk up for a session, and check out your fellow tailors - at least on the same planet. Yeah, it takes some time and effort, but it is well worth it imo. Another option is to contact some of your felow tailors and ask if they have a resource tool they are willing to share - how do they keep track of what they charge/sell?
