Thread: Need your input to compile a new State of the Profession :)
Shortly after I was named correspondent, Thunderheart told me I could write my own State of the Profession address. I have a clean slate atm so I'd like to tackle that project
What I would like from you, PLEASE VERY BRIEFLY:
#1thing you enjoy about the profession
#1 pet peeve with the profession
#1 wish list item for the profession
Thank you ![]()
Edit: Tweaked it a tiny bit, my apologies if you had already typed out your answer.

#1 Thing I like. I enjoy making characters look unique from one another.
#1 Pet peeve. The fact that players do not recognize this is an elite profession due to the glut of hologrinders.
#1 wish. Better interface when we are IDing someone. I want a big closeup of their face like in creation. I want better lights so I can see what I am doing. And I want to be able to see ALL the changes I make to an avatar.
My $.02 worth.
Enjoy:
Making myself and othershappier about their charater's looks, a purely non-essential thing.
Pet Peeve:
This game has undoubtedly the best character creation of any MMORPG, but the ID UI falls way short of meeting our needs.
Wish List:
They have the last one and until they act on it I see no reason to make a new one, especially considering the high quality of the last list.
Sir Voor, the Sotp isn't going to be a list of things we want addressed, but rather an overarching view of how we see our profession and where we would like it to go in the future. Something those outside of the profession can read and say, ahh so that's what they love about their profession, and that's where they would like to see improvement or change ![]()
Things I enjoy about it-
making someone feel good about themselves-
helping a noob not look like a noob
pet peeves- Folks that want to see every hairstyle or every skin tone but dont want to pay you for 2 hours of time / the hair color bug as well.
wish list- better lighting and a FULL SCREEN image of the avaitar to work with ( more like in character creation )
#1thing you enjoy about the profession
Making appreciative people look better, or simply different. Making judgment calls and having them say "wow I never thought that the chin was what made me look like a redneck."
#1 pet peeve with the profession
After 6 months we have a hair color bug, eye shape bug, freckles for some males bug, and no baldness. To me, this seems ridiculousconsidering that these items (minus the hair color) are in character creation. The human male freckles were fixed, so why the delay with the rest? Is it too much to ask that the small amount of content we have work properly?
#1 wish list item for the profession
Tattoos.
I'm not an image designer, but I do have something to add to the wish list, just because I think it would be cool.
I wish that Master Image Designers could push the values of the physical features of a character past the initial creation limits. Maybe not very far past those limits, but the current limitations are frustrating, and there's no better way to solve that problem than by giving Master IDers the ability to, well, really mess you up.
For example:
- Currently it's not possible for a bothan to get any taller than the shortest human. Yeah, they're short as a race, but lots of people have found after playing a bothan that they really hate the height issue.
- It's not possible for females to be flat-chested right now. I know plenty of you wouldn't mind having larger breasts too, but for the aesthetic of being a lean, slender fighting machine for all you TKA Zabraks out there (wow there's a lot of you ladies doing that) it would be handy to be able to tone down the mammaries.
- Wouldn't a rodian look cool with even bigger eyes? Antennae that are so long they practically droop? Yeah!
- My town's politician is a fat guy. He really doesn't do anything but sit around and talk to people. How does he not keep getting fatter? He should get fatter.
- Zabraks should be able to grow longer horns, I think. Or to file them off as little nubs.
My definition of our profession
Image Designer: A profession thatrequires a high degree of one on one interaction with other players, to adjust thier character's graphics thusimprove their gaming expearance. Note: this is not a profession for soling or one on many interaction nor one that can improve an character's ablities/skills.
My hopes for the future would be that pets and vendorswill be added, plus the UI will be improved.
As for the those outside the profession I feel it's ether you something you get or something you will never get.
I hope this better answers your question
I'm not an image designer longer, but just want to drop a few words ![]()
#1thing you enjoy about the profession
I used ID most on my self and my friend, but a few hairchanges a week, so the person would look a little different, makes a lovely variaty
#1 wish list item for the profession
The ability to alter vendor's apperance. An image designer should be able to change a master merchant, or a merchant with hiring 4, vendors apperances. The merchant enables a "Let -name of ID- alter this vendors apperance"-thing, and then the ID goes to work. That would give ID's more work, and make the merchants happier
My biggest peeve is not being able to see the hairstyles I'm testing out on a customer. I can see changes to hair color, height, freckles, etc., why can't I see hairstyles? I know it's bugged, but this is what bugs me most.
What do I like about it? It's fun. I like being able to make changes to people's appearance when they ask. Many have specific requests, while others just ask me to do what I think looks good. I completely overhauled a guild Wookiee the other day. Much better now, IMHO. ![]()
Wish List:
- Fix the hairstyle bug, described above.
- Fix the bug whereby we can't change freckles on Twi'leks.
- Fix the bug whereby Humans can't be made bald.
- Fix the bug whereby changing the height of a Bothan makes them shorter. (I had to try changing a Bothan's height three or four times before it stuck. I don't know if this is a general height problem, or just a problem with Bothans.)
- Fix the bug whereby we occasionally get stuck in "you have an outstanding image design request" state.
- Give Bothans facial hair options. In all the sketches I've seen from various LucasArts sources, Bothans are supposed to have goatees. I want a goatee. (Everybody seems to think we're goats, anyway.)

- Lower the Mind costs for changing someone's appearance. I can see a reason for a massive Mind hit sampling DNA from a creature, or healing a patient in the Med Center, but for making somebody taller or changing the shape of their chin? It's a bit silly that I should have to rest each time I've made a high-level change. Machine gun DNA sampling or wound healing can be abused -- there's no way to abuse changing somebody's appearance, so there's no reason for the Mind cost to be so high.

I love being able to change my own and other people's appearances. Nothing like being able to change your makeup to go with that dress before your date, or help someone else do the same.
I hate the hair bug. I spend 90% of my time with brown hair ![]()
Tatoo's/Body jewelry - probably the number one thing people want that we can't do.
1 What I enjoy is being able to redesign my own characters appearance to match the outifts I create and making other players look better since at creation most make mistakes that noone else can fix and nearly all are veryhappy after they get a makeover.
2 My pet peeves are the hair bug and the total lack of attention being paid to a profession not only unique in Star Wars but any other on-line game,
3 My wish list is the same as we have been wishing for over 6 months,,something new,,tatoos,,neon hair ,,just any thing that would add some zest to our profession,,
