Thread: The Public Tents are hurting IDers

Today, first thing, I was in Theed when the server came up and was able to grab a spot in the tent. Then I see a /shout where a master IDer was doing everything for free. One IDer in the tent with me who does NOTHING but ID work and dancing, sent me a tell asking that we all try and set fees. I sent a tell to the girl doing free work and telling her she was hurting those who depended on income from this. I got a tell back saying she always does this for free and was not stopping.

Here we all are, stuck in a tent, trying to sell our services with a master IDer giving it away free. Do you see a problem here? We need either private tents or bots who allow us to get away from the players who would ruin it for everyone else.

I finally got so fed up, there was a line for the freebie girl while everyone else stood around with no business. I left for Meonia and guess what. Not a soul in Meonia as usual. There was a lovely tent, no one in it and no one in the city.

I have never set a price on ID,I usea tip or free only basis. Somecustomers dont pay, some give you 50k. Hell, ive even said free to someone and they gave me 20k just to change thier hair

The lowest Ive ever gotten was 2k the biggest was 100k. Since ID doesnt take resources I feel there should be no set price, unless you set it on the amount of time you spend with them. But that just ruins the experience...

I have found when you set prices you get WAY WAY WAY less for your services. She has every right to be there doing it for free. She worked just as hard as you did to get Master, not her fault others picked a class that doesnt make any money as their source of income

I mean, its not like you are losing money by someone underpricing you. You lose nothing because it costs you nothing.

Sorry for mispells its late

huh... I actually had better business when I set prices. And I was always tipped above the prices. ::shrugs:: must just be me though.

Well, that largely depends on the immediate environment.

The contention here is that the 'Freely Dealing Image Designers' are much more likly to be at one of the five places you want to be in order to do business as well. At least for the immediate.

I suspect that the tents will eventually dissuade the Freebies from being there as "constantly often". My experience has been that usually the freebies are folks who are doing something else, and all that they can really do in the Tent is ID [or crafting with a Droid I suppose]. In all, they are typically incidental work. Now is a bit of an exception with the NewNess. The other Freebie, would probably be the HoloGrinder, who will be fading away entirely 'soonish' anyway, but until then, they will be sitting in the Tents for the timer reduction.

Of course, the tip-based IDers may well be a bit more frustrating over time. Since my experience puts them in the same places as the "Wage-Based" IDers and not as incidental services as the freebie.

And this is all base-less personal opinion and observation. So I may well be wrong .

I was just kind of guessing on my prices. I did 1000 per alteration, and I was selling Holoemotes for 10K for all of them, basing the price off of what i see Docs selling buffs for. No one ever complained about prices, and in fact, a few said that I deserved more and added on

I'll tell you what, I did pretty well for a night's work, and I had a lot more fun doing it then grinding destroy missions.

You poor thing I got lucky last night, the tents I visited (all but Vreni) all the ID'ers stood a little bit apart from each other and took customers as they arrived, taking turns, though often everyone was busy and if someone would arrive one of us would say, I can take you next. Noone was announcing their prices, that was all discussed privately as it should be when several of one profession are in one spot. It's the courteous thing to do.

"Since ID doesnt take resources I feel there should be no set price, unless you set it on the amount of time you spend with them. "

DEAD wrong. It takes the ONLY real resource...TIME. Harvester resources that people idiotically think are worth more than ID work are IMAGINARY, see. My TIME, however is real & worth a lot more.

Well personally I think that if a person is going to offer their services for free, they shouldn't go announcing it. I mean they have the freedom to do whatever they want, however I think its safe to assume that most IDers are going to charge, and announcing you are doing it for free in front of several MIDs is just spiteful.

Sure, the person who are announcing they are doing it for free may think they are doing people a favor. But in my opinion the only people that deserve the favor are the ones who respect IDers, and consequently are the ones who will pay anyway because of that respect.

Mystique from Lowca was bellowing in /shout that she did everything for free. I don't need the credits, but there were others there who did. There was a line down the middle of the tent for this Mystique (not sure of spelling), and there were IDers standing around twiddling their thumbs while Mystique had a line waiting. I just think that is horridly rude, and I do feel it will be an ongoing problem since she is around a lot.

Having to stay in laggy Theed trying to do business is just not great. I have decided I will personally never do the tent thing again. One poor girl just sent me a tell saying "Mystique is a b----" and logged. I went back to my city on Rori and will play my other characters which I fortunately can do.

I think player city tents or bots would really help the problem.

(you can comment negatively without calling people Idiots.)

I do like the new colors and the holoemotes are fun. The new window is awesome and the times sucks.

I saw that, and it was one of the reasons why I will do ID at home now, even if it is faster in the tents. I am not doing stat migration anyway.

I did all my I work right from the space port in Coronetyesterday until around 2am when someone asked if I could stat migrate, price being no option just to hurry. Well ten minutes and 150K later I had a que of tells from players needing stat changes. Only one didn't have 150K but we bartered on items that would equal that price.

Everyone I ran into (around 50 jobs last night alone) was very happy about the changes and liked what we were doing.

I bounced in and out of the Theed ID tent on Kett a few times last night. Saw Voor, Rapa and a few others on my trips in and out. At one point on my way past I heard an ID'er offering things for free and that's when I decided, unless it's stat migration, I won't be in the tents period. The reduced time is just not enough to get me to go back to lag hell
