I was just curious: how do you handle requests from clients who want to look like another player? Is this something you'll do? Something you absolutely refuse to do?

I have no problem handling a request like that if the player is in the same group. Only once have I ever had someone ask me if I knew such-and-such character, and then to make them look the same, though. This was easier to do back in the days of numbered sliders, but I have no problem eyeballing their friend's stats, and then attempting to match it on the other. Any differences are so minute they don't mind. I usually try and convince the twin to go for analternate color scheme, making a happy little good twin/ evil twin pair. So to answer your question, "yes, I enjoy these jobs fine. Just warn them things may be off by 1% or so."

I've only been asked to do this once (that is not including the time someone wanted their alt IDed exactly like them). A customer came in and asked for an ID. We changed a few things, and then another ID came into the tent (same species as the customer) and the customer decided she wanted to look exactly like her. I did the changes reluctantly, and accepted. I then told the IDer that I hoped it was ok with her, and that I had only done it because she had the Master ID tag. Now I did assume that if she had a problem with being a "clone", she wouldn't have a problem changing her colour.

One of my best friends on Shadowfire has four or five clones of himself now it seems... dark blue twi'leks with red markings are popping up everywhere.

Now... I've even cloned myself - onto my alt. I change my look every day though and my alt can't keep up to that (with only 256mb RAM for double instancing)!

I wouldn't do it unless the other player is there. In this game you never know what others intentions are , so to be safe I would defintly get permission from the original before I made someones clone. On a side note, I have imaged twins before and it can be alot of fun!

Never had the request myself. But In general I think I'd refuse, unless the one being copied was there and agreed to it.

I don't see a problem with making someone look like someone else. It's a compliment to the player being copied. Someone liked that look enough they wanted it too. And it's a fun challenge to try and duplicate a look. I try to convince them to have some uniquely distinguishing feature though.

Twins or near twins are fun. A friend and I have dancer chars that are tall redheads. When we dance, we dress the same. The similarities end there though. When we leave the cantina, we change into unmatching outfits. It's our "off duty" mode. And our body shapes, faces, hairstyles and skin colors are different. Like sisters, but not twins.

I did have one strange copy request. When Q was still a master ID, as well as tailor, I had a regular customer bring a new friend to my shop. They were buying matching outfits. While they shopped, the "new friend" asked me to make her look like the other girl. I asked the other girl in tells if that was okay with her? It was. She stood side by side with her friend while I duplicated her look. I was able to talk the friend into having different color eyes and a different nose. It was enough to look like twins, but not identical. After we were done, the friend had to log out. As soon as she was gone, the "original" girl laughed and then had me completely alter her look. Everything. From skin color to hair style to torso size. She "uncloned" herself. And then she bought a new wardrobe too. Totally unlike everything her "friend" had just bought to match hers. I had to chuckle over that one. I have no idea what was going on there, but it was an interesting night.

I've only had the "I want my new alt to look exactly like me" thing, but if I were approached I think I'd have to make sure it was okay with the player who was to be cloned.

If the player is clearly the alt of the other character they are copying (most common cause to look like someone else ive found) then i do it without quesetion.

If the player just wants 'hair like that person there' i also do it without question.

Ive never actually had someone wanting to look exactly like another player that they didnt know. But if i did get asked, id probably ask a few questions as to what they would like the same what they would like different, eg. offer them different hair colours etc.

I know i wouldnt like someone to walk upto me looking the same, so if its a stranger i would encourage them to be a little different.

This is an interesting question Fuscia.

There are three situations I think that would apply here, and I would respond differently to each one:

1) The person wants their own alt to be a clone of themselves: Perfectly acceptable. No issues here.

2) The person wants to look like another toon who is controlled by someone else, but the other person consents: Reluctant, but still willing to do it with consent.

3) The person wants to look like another toon who is controlled by someone else, but the person does not consent or is not available to consent: I blatantly refuse to do this, even though I have been asked several times. With all of the options in this game, I think people can be far more creative than copying other people when it comes to their toon.

Just my two creds,

Dan

I can't really see how this could be a problem. Since characters names always appear above them, they couldn't use their likeness in any malicious way and so I think it is fine if someone wants to look like another character. Chances are that at least 1 person on your server will look very similar to you anyway. Also due to the recent trend of almost every combat orientated player wanting to wear full comp armour all the time, their appearance is pretty much irrelavant as everyone looks the same anyway

You can turn floaty names off. In fact, I usually do. Even so, it's not so much a matter of malicious intent, but more a matter of "intellectual property" of a sort. At least, for me. /shrug

I have seen players come from another server, create an exact likeness of someone, even as close inname as they can get. They then run around harrassing the original player.Thats why I said you never know what someones intentions are.
