Thread: The Code Fix
So they fixed the set value code so that we couldn't do illegal hair changes anymore. Great! now we can share the 'good side' of the code.
As far as I can tell... you can still get to the following changes via /imagedesignsetvalue
(Things that were left out for us that we should be able to fix, I mean)
Twi'lek eyebrow shape: /imagedesignsetvalue eyebrows <then a number>
Twi'lek male freckles: /imagedesignsetvalue freckles <then a number... 0 is none>
Was there a problem with changing female rhodian hair color and bothan hair trim color? Haven't gotten to check this myselfbut if these options aren't in the interface the code for that is: /imagedesignsetvalue hair_color <then a number> and /imagedesignsetvalue hair_trim_color <#>
Now for the bad news... pre-saturdays patch I could change the size of female twi'lek ears with /imagedesignsetvalue ears <#>, now I can't... worse when I tried to my poor gals ears defaulted to smallest possible and now I can't put them back.
By the way, you have to do /im or /imagedesign before you can use /imagedesignsetvalue.
Here's a way to macro the shortcut:
/im;
/pause 1;
/imagedesignsetvalue eyeshadow 1; (a value of zero instead turns eyeshadow off)
That's one of the most useful when you are practicing on someone since eyeshadow on/off has a good xp to mind cost ratio. Hehe and you don't have to just use it on females or certain races either... was thinking they may have fixed that today but it still works on anyone. Of course you won't really put eyeshadow on a male wookiee... but it's nice to have an option to use on everyone that is a good xp ratio for practice.
Hair color is a good ratio too... but is a higher lvl change: /imagedesignsetvalue hair_color <#>
Now I wonder what happened to the people who were sporting unintended hair styles? I'm sure on races that didn't have hair normally it just dissappeared. But what about zabrak's who had human hair pre-patch? Maybe they went bald? Or were defaulted to the lowest hair number value allowed for them? (the first horn style?)

I'm a bit confused about this exploit.
Did it allow us to do styles that we were not skilled enough to use yet, or was it just that it allowed us to do styles in a way SOE had not intended? If it was the latter, I find good cause to be annoyed - well, more annoyed than usual at the lack of attention being paid to our profession.
SOE Developers Meeting:
What IDers havebroken features that can't be changed?
So what, they don't affect gameplay. We might get to them eventually.
What! IDers are using an exploit tochangeappearance inway we didn't intend !!!!
Those@%#*@ 'ers.Get every coder in the house !!!This has to be fixed !!!!!!
Maybe I'm just too jaded. Could someone point me to the yellow brick road that leads to the Great and Powerful Wizard of Online ![]()
LoopFruit, the exploit was multi-part. One, it allowed non-IDers to use the /imagedesignsetvalue command at will. This is obviously bad for us, because we spent time, money and character points getting this far only to be undercut by amateurs. Two, it allowed even IDers to have access to sliders and commands they had not yet earned. Three, it allowed us (or anyone) to give a hairstyle to a Human that rightfully belongs on a Bothan; to give a Zabrak a hairstyle of Trandoshan head ridges; to give odd-colored hair and tattoosto a Human, and so on. In other words, it unintentionallygave us mostly what we asked for: new exotic styles, new colors, new abilities. So they patched it. Now we're asking for new hairstyles, new colors, and new abilities. You think we'll get them?
Escia
Ahhh well, I guess I did get to see the wizard after all ![]()
Thanks for the explanation. I can see where this command would be dangerous in the hands of 'untrained' personnel.
Escia, my understanding of the situation pre-patch is very different from what you just described... I'm not saying I know for certain but some of the things you said don't agree with what my general experience with using the code to change things.
For instance, a novice entertainerwas using the code to practice on me by changing my hairstyle. I told her to use hair number 186 because that was what I like to keep my lekku at (one in front and one in back) when she tried it I did get the dialogue to change my hair, but when I clicked accept she says she got an error message "you do not have the skill to make this change". So I gave her the number for both lekku in front instead. I have tested this by starting a new char on a diff server and also found that I couldn't access changes like skin color with the code if I didn't already have that skill. However I have not tried very much so perhaps there were a few skills where this was not the case.
Also, the only thing that we were able to change with the code that led to unintended combinations was hair. Hair does not behave like other ID options since the numbers for hair um... don't stack on top of each other for different races? Like bothan hair was 0-37, human hair was 38-116 and so forth. But other changes share numbers... like hair color and skin color... I think this is because they are on a slider. number 10 hair color is black is it is a human hairstyle, and orange if it is a rhodian hair style.
It seems like we might have been able to put tattoos on a non-zabrak person too... but the code didn't work for that either. (the command is /imagedesignsetvalue tattoo_style <#> ) I think this is because tattoos are a surface texture programmed to appear only on certain surfaces, whereas with hair actual new polygons are added.
However I can see where you might have thought these changes were possible because twi'leks and zabraks look so close to human that giving them human hair will make people think they are a human with blue skin or a facial tattoo.
would like to add a correction to my former post... the freckels command works for non-twi'lek males too.
Also, If you want to use the code on yourself, you have to select yourself first with ctrl 1.
In answer to what I was wondering before about whether or not the patch would remove the illegal hairstyles, It didn't.Those who had an unintended hairstyle pre-patch can apparantly keep sporting it until they get their hair done again.

Well that explains a lot. Some Zabrak fellow was asking me to remove his horns saying he saw some other Zabrak without any. He seemed a little beligerant when I told him I couldn't do that and suggested it was a bug.
actually fishwan, you are pretty wrong about what the "exploit" did. you could give hair to a moncal, or lekku to any character, but you could not give a human tatoos on their face, nor could you give human hair wild colors. and um, who in the heck would care about that?!? that happens in the real world.
lekku on a non-twilek...thats pretty lame. hair on the moncal, thats pretty ridiculous... but a female human with a long purple pony tail...god that would never happen in the real world...and certainly would not ever happen in a galaxy where space travel is an every day occurance for most every citizen....noooooooo...
ok reality check. as long as the model fit the style, i did not see a problem with it. as long as there were no holes visible through a persons head, who cares.
also, the command did not give non-image designers the ability to change a person, or their own image values. it did not give a person of lower skill access to a higher level design change either. they could set them, preview what it would look like, but when the change was committed it would say "you do not have enough skill to make this change" or something similiar.
the only exploits that came out of this were:
1) size of players could be made completely wrong. giants or midgets were possible.
2) some of the cross species stuff just doesnt look right. again, im a female human with a female rodian hair style that is purple...it looks completely correct, nothing looks funny about it...it looks very very good imho. there were combinations that would leave holes in the heads of your target...those were bad. also, i never did one of these types of changes on a character i did not personally own. when i was figuring out how to macro image design back in the day, i did have my rodian with lekku for about 30 seconds...long enough to get it set back and hope noone saw it...this was quite some time ago and i really hoped it would never get out...
the machine i did this on is a peice of junk, so the picture looks really bad compared to my good machine at home, but it should give you an idea...
