Thread: Yavin IV
As far as hostile worlds go, Yavin 4 is pretty easy. Unlike Dathomir, Dantooine, and Endor where everything is red to me, Yavin 4 has several creatures which I actually have a shot at solo killing. I'm an armorsmith with only one skill level finished on pistoleer tree yet I can survive there pretty easily. I just went last week and spent several days having a blast. Beware of npc mssions though, I don't think I found one that worked. I think the whole planet is bugged as I noticed everytime I logged or or took a shuttle the info loading screen was always the same stupid over head map junk. Never had one bit of info on wildlife or points of interest when loading, always the same stupid "how to use the overhead map". My personal ranking on hostile worlds as I've spent several days on all and have lived on 3 (dathomir, dantooine, and Lok) 1. Dathomir, nightsisters and singing clan are just plain nasty 2. Endor, mobs are horribly aggressive. 3. Dantooine, voritor lizards, huurtons, Mokks are all nearly impossible to solo unless you want to spend all day shooting, burst running to camp and back. 4. Tie between Lok and Yavin 4, both have some creatures that are killable solo and there are the occasional npc mobs that are aggro red. Lok becomes tougher than Yavin 4 when you're dumb enough to get negative faction points against Nym's guards. Once that happens Lok wins out.

What makes Yavin hard is that it's covered with mobs. It's like Endor/2, really. Mobs are about half the level of endor ones, but all over. If you can find a secluded place with one or two nests with nothing else around, you'll be set.
Yavin has lots of aggros. Chokus, crystal snakes, anglers, kliknics, pacs. It only has a couple of neutrals. Mamiens, mawgaxes. The woolamanders at the Temple are also aggro, but don't seem to appear elsewhere on the planet.
The area surrounding the Mining Outpost is thick with mobs and lairs. This is the result of people taking missions they couldn't accomplish, and these mission lairs never timing out. Away from the mining outpost, I often found myself covering large tracts of land that didn't have anything living on it.
Interestingly, I thought the best place to hunt was around the Mining Outpost. This is because all the aggros attack the mamians and the mawgaxes, and I just kept joining in these fights. Note that most of the critters assist, so it's best to attack when they're already distracted.
Also be warned that unless you can maskscent successfully (which is no longer assured, after this morning's patch), you're likely to die. When I was there, the only creatures that saw through my maskscent were the anglers. Makes sense, considering they're spiders (no sense of small, amazing eyesight). Heck, I even walked into the Blueleaf Temple (or whatever it's called) and scratched the kliknik dark queen on the back. She and her minions ignored me.
The chokus would occasionally notice me, and when they did, I was often toast. They're fast, and even burstrun isn't guarateed to get you away from them.
I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a relatively advanced character, but after the maskscent nerf this morning, I don't even know if I could survive any longer. I'll have to plan a return trip and see just out bad it is. Where I spent three days wandering around ignored on Yavin 4, after this morning's patch, even the diseased vrelts and crazed durnis on Corellia are breaking my maskscent.
Don't listen to these blokes. My buddy got back from a two day venture out on Yavin IV and said he had a blast. The most difficult part of Yavin IV is getting away from the outposts. Soon as you get there, clone. and go out as far as you can. It's like a solid wall of monsters surrounding the outposts. Either navigate you way past them or burst run past them. After that. It's a cake walk. Lightly populated as far as monsters go. And the aggro range is great. You have to be standing next to and poking something in order for it to notice you.
He said it was a refreshing break from the day to day stuff of SWG.
