Isn't this information already known by the mass public? A business is in business to make money. No-brainer there. SOE just happens to have a license for a game world that is probably one of the most popular around. Sure, lots of people have quit and will continue to quit... but the game will still be around for a long, long time.

The developers are actually pretty damn bright. Look at the mechanics of the game and how in-depth it is. It's a very, very cool setup. However, I believe the 'suits' at Sony are what hold back the developers from doing what's right and necessary to have a game that not only lasts a long, long time... but also have many, many subscribers. That's where they're making mistakes, in my humble opinion. The fellows that built this engine and game world are down-right genious-level folks... seriously. But the business decisions being made just plain suck.

Great Post the most honest and open post i have ever read in these forums. You are completely right it took me 33 professions to get my jedi and I got him one week after publish 9 went in effect and SOE still has me on a string because now i have to wait for publish 10 to be release so I can play the damn jedi.

Please let me explain a few things before I get started that you must understand before reading my main post.

- You need to realize that Sony and Lucas Artsare companies whose sole purpose is to make profits and that SWG is one of the products it sells.

- You need to realize that one of the goals of Sony and Lucas Arts is to keep individuals playing and paying as long as possible in order to make more profits.

- You need to realize that Jedi is just a marketing move and a ploy that was devised by individuals at Sony and Lucas Arts to keep people playing this game.

This whole Jedi thing has gotten extremely out of hand. People are just crying and b!tching about Jedi when it's not the Jedi's fault.

Take a step back and think outside the box please and put your past experiences and judgements about Jedi aside for a minute while you ponder these things I'm about to explain.

Let's first take a look at some aspects of Jedi and at reasons why they were implemented.

I. Unlocking FS:

Until recently the way to unlock FS was to use 4 holocrons that tell you which proffesions to master and then your on your own. The average number of proffesions it took to unlock FS has got to be at least 20 proffesions. It took some people more it took some less but this is just my guessed mean which I'm sure is pretty close to the actual mean or average. Now the system has been redone and there is no telling when people who unlock now are actually going to be able to play an FS character, could be months. The new system has been designed and nobody truly knows how it works or how long it will take.

The key with this is time. Ask yourself this question "if you had to guess at what the most time consuming thing in this game would be that would take months of work what would it be?' There are many things such as creating RIS, Mando Armor, Looting a Legendary Weapon etc...... but a great answer would be to master proffesions. From a marketing standpoint this a great answer for SOE and an implementation on their part. They keep us entertained, we have a mission to accomplish, we can chart our progress, at the end of every proffesion we have a chance to unlock, it's extremely time consuming.

This is the work of an evil genius that SOE is. In order to unlock FS it will take you months of work. Keep in mind the longer we play the longer we pay and the more money in the bank for SOE and Lucas Arts

II. Grinding a Jedi Character

After you have finally achieved success and unlocked your FS what is there now to do with it? Well you have to grind it out of course. How long on average does grinding an FS character take? Months, it takes months to do. In order to obtain a novice box and achieve master in that box, FS box of course such as master lightsaber you need 15,880,000. That's right 15,880,000. Now imagine that you receive 1100 XP per Rancor. You would have to kill 14,437 Rancors just to become master enhancer. Let's tear about the FOTM template that is Master Lightsaber, Master Enhancer, and 4004 Healer. In order to accomplish that template you need 37,240,000 XP. Or you need to kill 33,855 Rancor @ 1100 XP per kill which you don't get right off but to keep things constant we will cut the Jedi some slack and say they need to kiill a thousand less Rancors than they will truly need.

Now what does all that XP really mean? It means you have to spend some serious **edit**ing time playing this game. Months to be exact before you can even start the Jedi Knight Trials.

The Jedi Knight Trials alone can take months and then what do you get to do after that? Well you get to grind for months killing players in order to achieve a higher rank in the Force Ranking System or FRS. Months of playing is what that is.

III. The Undeniable Proof

Now if you were SOE or Lucas Arts what is the one thing you would your consumers to do in SWG. That is what do you want your players to do in order to keep them playing an paying as long as possible. Well you guessed it that is become a Jedi in the FRS.

Think about all of you that quit the game? Did you unlock FS? Did you try to unlock FS?

To all of the those that are still playing the game - Have you unlocked FS? Are you currently trying to unlock FS? Do you plan on doing the new Quests system?

Now let's get down and dirty and examine Jedi in their current state and pick them apart shall we, we will start small then get into the bigger things:

Lightsaber:

Everyone would love to be ablet to wield this weapon. I mean who in the game does not want to have a weapon that no PC or NPC has any resists too? We talk about a +1000 Legendary Weapons well hell Jedi don't need them right? Everything is Vulnerable to Lightsaber Damage! Don't you want to unlock FS just to be able to wield this great weapon that nothing has anyresists to. I mean it has no health. It never DECAYS it lasts forever!

Force Powers:

Oooo and Ahhhh is what you here when you see these things. Most people have only seen Enhance too they haven't even witnessed the Powers Tree and such. These things are pretty and they look cool as hell. Don't you want to be able to blast bolts of lightning from your fingertips? Wouldn't you love to have Force Armor protecting you or be able to Force Choke your opponent? Well you can have all of these powers if you unlock your FS. So go ahead and unlock and we will reap the rewards from how long it takes you to do so says SOE!

Robes:

There are two outfits in this game that are easily recognizable but only one tells you exactly what they are. The first is composite armor which everyone wears and the second is you guessed it.... a Jedi Robe! You can see the Robe and istantly know that is a Jedi. There is a Jedi standing right there in his bright ass white **edit**ing robe for all the starport to see! Well SOE has to advertise their product somehow right? SOE says slap a little regen on the robes and some extra force powers and they will wear them. Why doesn SOE want you to be seen with a Robe all over the place? Because they want people to see that Jedi is an attainable goal! They want people to beleive and know that they too can unlock their FS... I mean hell this guy standing next to me did it that means that I can too right?!

Force Ranking System:

Dammitthose people at SOE are tricky tricky tricky.Whatis it that they have Jedi do now once they have completed their template and areesteemedJedi Knights? Well they make them kill ordinary players of course. Wellwhat does that mean? IT MEANS EVERYTHING! Nothing makes you hate, respect, or fear Jedi more than fightingone. Your armor does nothing to protect you and only slows you down. All of your ranged weapons are ineffective, your defenses are lacking, you have to completelyredo you template to mutlimelee in order to even stand a chance against the Jedi that are everywhere. You can't even goovert anymore without fighting one! It's all in the DEV's design baby. You think thatJedi and Force Run 3 are going to get nerfed? You think Jedi are going to get nerfed? You aresadly mistaken if you believe this. Jedi will only become more powerful and look to the Jedi to be just as effective against melee opponents soon as they currently are against ranged opponents. Why? Well it's to make you wantto unlock FSof course. It's not fair you have these people that areable to bend the rules and heal mind and run as fast as speeders and use force intimidate2 to intimidatemultiple opponents at once and use force weaken to debilitate you andliterally take away 500+ off your buffs and turn your own animals against you and many other things...You have tofight fire with fire and unlock you FS. With the extremely high maintenance costs of the FRSand since the FRS is only forKnights and aboveSOE ismaking sure you are going up against the real dealJedi not the puny padawan learners but the highest of the high. This will make those PvPaddicts want their FS.

Are you guys truly starting to understand now?

Good now let's get really down low and dirty then:

"We at SOE would like to show out appreciation for you and have given you all a free gift in your inventory in celebration of Christmas!"

Does everyone remember their free gift? What was it? Your bet your ass it was a holocron why is that? To entice you to unlock FS!

Why is it that amongst all the revamps and all the discussion with the GCW and CM's and such why is it that Jedi got the Revamp first? Why do I have to tell you, you already know. It's all stated above and in your head now you understand right? But they said it was because the holocrons were ruining the game which they were in fact and I must say that we provided them with a damn good excuse to do Jedi first didn't we? Well it's make Jedi more appealing. Jedi were too rare they weren't seen enough. They didnt' have a role in the GCW. The death penalties were too steep they didn't get involved in the game. They didn't entice enough to people to unlock their FS! We must get them to try and unlock if we want to keep earning their money! Jedi Revamp is #1 on our list and #2 is the next big money maker Jump to Lightspeed Expansion pack and BOOM we have more of their money and we can bring back people into the game. Well why such an emphasis on JTL anyway? Well we all know that World of Warcraft is coming out soon right? What about the Matrix Online? Everquest 2? Well EQ2 will still make lots of bucks for SOE but Lucas Arts can't get a piece of the pie with EQ2 so...........

What recently has caused the biggest stir and uprising in SWG? You guessed it it's the Jedi! Everyone has changed their templates and such to fight them. People are all crying and complaining to each other. People like Jezabelle are selling out all over the place and creating new guilds and such to hunt them. People like Zounds spam up the boards with their useless BS whining about Jedi. People that don't want play Jedi have found a new reason to play! To kill Jedi! Well the Jedi population is only getting bigger as time progresses so you need to keep playing and try and keep them from reaching a suitable level!

Why is all of this really relevant to you the person who hates Jedi with a passion and that believes that Jedi are ruining the game?

The reason is because you people were just in a wreck. A horrible Auto Accident let's assume and your standing their b!tching to the car that hit you instead of the person driving the car! The car does one thing and that is be a car. It acts inside the rules that govern it much like current Jedi do. I'm not talking about Jedi who Grief or Talk Trash I'm talking about the system. For example camping POI's and such? Well if the Devs would give us another way to gain Jedi XP then we wouldn't be there in the first place. Understand?

Jedi didn't want bright ass robes that stand out!

Jedi didn't approve of this stupid FRS system!

Jedi don't want to spend a million hours XP'ing!

Jedi don't want to only gain XP with a lightsaber!

Jedi don't want to only gain XP by killing other PC's!

Jedi don't want the entire community to hate them!

Jedi don't want to have to walk around with sabers equipped at all times!

Jedi only want to do one thing and that is to play Jedi. It isn't our fault so stop blaming us for the BS that SOE and SWG has put you through because it isn't going to change, it isn't going away, and am I sick and tired of hearing everyone whine about it!

You have all had people kill you in the past. You have all had people kill steal in the past. The one timea Jedi does it you stereotype all Jedi and think we are all the same. Well we are not all the same!

We didn't develop Jedi we are only playing Jedi and just like you have to abide by the rules that are set for us within this game.

100% truth right there

Hard to argue Great post.

All the time and work to 'revamp' Jedi seems a bit wasted, but not for lack of community feedback. The ironic thing is I could ressurect a post from February as to 'why we don't want robes' but it's sort of crying over spilt milk.

FRS has potential, but not as it's shaped now. However - CGW has potential, but not as it's shaped now. Each is a different system, and is really only a framework for something larger.

Still, try to be constructive in the posts. We can scream and criticize and shout - but without offering ideas to fix and change this wacky system, we may likely be ignored. I would like to think the Devs are aware of this though : folks are NOT happy with the Jedi system right now. Not Jedi, jedi aspirants or non-jedi. And there WERE reasonable suggestions that do address the concerns of the many.

Ah, my kindom for an instanced dungeon where two teams of Jedi could face off, away from 'regular eyes' and conduct jedi warfare *wink*.
