Thread: Friday Feature: February 4th Just Say No to Alt Keys

This week we bring you the new SWG user control interface! Be sure to try it out on Test Center - it makes a huge difference!

Edit: Make note that there are TWO new interface setups. One is like EQ2 (wasd) the other is like SWG. The SWG version doesn't require the use of the alt-key and it also doesn't require you to hit enter to chat. Even if you really like the current interface, I'd recommend checking out the new SWG setup on Test Center.


(Before anyone asks, this Friday Feature was going to be about the new weapons for CU, but a lot of the art didn't get approved in time. We'll post that one as soon as the art is approved. Hopefully in a week or two!)

Will this be like in space, since when you try to talk without usin the / it brings up all the menus that the key represent that you had pressed, and you will have to use /Spatial,/Groupchat,/GuildChat to talk?

And what if we DONT want to change it at all? I have everything set up perfectly, and this would cause me to unlearn all my mappings, and re-customize an interface that I never wanted to change in the first place. If this gets in, PLEASE make it so we can keep it how it is if we desire.

Thank God, the old controls, while great in many ways, were restrictive, not allowing quick and controlled movement, unless you were in first person mode, but who uses that

The old interfaces are not being removed. You don't have to use these if you don't want to. I will say that after getting a chance to try out the new ones, I can't imagine ever playing the game any other way again. But nobody is being forced to use them.

If anything, the keymap in Space needs extensive work. It doesn't mesh with the ground system that I think has worked well for the past year and a half. I keep having to type "/" then backspace and hope I'm in the right channel and then type my message. Or just do a /gu or /grou or /spati and hope I typed the message correctly.


If you need to type something quickly in space, it'd darn near impossible. This keymap might be good for space, but the ground is cool with me.


Are they selectable? The keymaps I mean...if we want to keep using the original ground keymap or swap to the new one in space or in the ground?

thank god for having us able to keep the old settings cause i hate the WASD keymap in MMORPG's
