Thread: Server populations/ statistics?

I was curious if there are ever statistics or population numbers posted about some servers.

For instance on my server, Ahazi, how many characters are in it? What is the average peek for players logged in? How many new players come in and how many become inactive?

Just a few things I wonder about and wonder if some numbers could be posted.

I figure there are between at least 1-5 thousand people on Ahazi. I've heard some speculations about it being closer to 10k. I would guess at least 1k are logged in during most of the day, probably a few hundred at night.

But the unfortunate truth is simple this, SWG is dying, and this is very upsetting, I'm a VERY big Star Wars fan, and this is my first MMORPG, EVER!.. I never even played trial accounts, ( free ones for 7-14 days ect.)

this game is awesome, but the lure, of story line content, and unbalanced mods, along with Nerf after Nerf, and fixing minor issues,( mostly resulting in game crashes, server account logg in difficulties, and harware/driver conflicts), allowing other issues that need to be addressed unattended, and ignored for long unacceptable periods, has hurt the game, severely..

Most people now are really true Star Wars fans that play mostly now, and others just really like the game, and I'm happy to see that, but the game continaully is hacked to pieces, and the population decline, (which seems to be denied by devs/csr, is dropping rapidly, alot to do with EQ2/WoW be released after a long fan await) will probally get much worse, and most who play the dominating "defense Stacking players" for PvP will quit due to the combat balance which I'm welcoming, and in strong favor for.

The develpers need to fix the broken things before moving on to "improve" working things, and when they make a mistake, just take some responsibility and say "yeah that didn't work, so bare with us", instead of saying, "well it seems to be all on your end, with harware/drivers, and I dont know why you can't connect, or your sound/video, is all of a sudden having problems after the new patch."

I still play, I really like the game, but in the eyes of a consumer, I dont feel like a valued customer, just more liked walk-on, and ignored, unless it is a really major single player issue, disappearing items, or weapon/armor bug, ect.. The /CSR alot of the time seem to really help alot, and about 10-15% of em seem to really careless...

I hope the game gets a good turn soon, they have alot of competition on the shelves to be screwing with the customers too much, if not, we as players will have to start posting on forums, and setting schedules to play at once to see people for goods and wares LOL.

For a sample, FarStar have about 400-600 active players.

Active means playing every day.

IMHO of course.

The game isn't dying. Not at all.

Even if alot of people weren't playing the game you have to think of how they still have active accounts. Plus all the people who have multiple active accounts.

Then still you have the indivual people who do play on a daily basis. Definatly enough to keep the game running.

Only reason the game feels empty is the lack of content, lack of background music and too many servers. They really need to do a purge.

They used to actually post server mechanics, they don't anymore (probably don't want us to know exactly how many folks are in fact leaving).

Quote the RPGvault article that is on SWG main news now:

"According to figures revealed by publisher LucasArts this summer, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided had "over 500,000 registered users, with more than 115,000 players logging into the game every day." Interestingly, these very substantial numbers were achieved despite the fact it didn't have what many fans would consider a core aspect of the Star Wars experience. "

If we make a very rough estimate, by taking the 115000 daily logons and dividing it with the amount of servers incl TS which is 26, we get a very rough figure estimating the average number of players logging on daily per server: 115000/26 = 4400. Same math with the registered players 500000 gives 19000 per server.

Error sources:

  • multiple logons per same player on same/different server

  • multiple accounts/alts per player

  • changeof player population since summer?

  • ...just to name a few.

I don't thing the game is dying...the forums are just biased. Many of the people that are content, are busy playing (unless like me, at work with no access to game).

It's like the daily press: bias is always on the bad news. Who wants to read good news anyway? /sigh

well it can go either way, but i watched a clan of almost 30 quit playing, in less then a week ,, about 10-12 still have accounts,,, but are rarely on.

I got my issue of PC Gammer january 2005 issue
which hold thier rating for SWG-JTLS, and the score 84% giving the game an excellent rating, they sated the highs were: "X-Wings vs, TIE fighters; large-scale battles; ability to fly multiplayer ships.

LOWS Doesn't address persitant issues with the ground game.

Bottom line Not a silver bullet to fix all SWG's problems, but it is a huge step forward.

you will find the nice evaluation of SWG JTLS in the january 2005 issue of PC Gammer on page 96.

hopefully this might intice new account to made and more people to join on..
a recent positive thing..
