The game isn't dying. Not at all.
Even if alot of people weren't playing the game you have to think of how they still have active accounts. Plus all the people who have multiple active accounts.
Then still you have the indivual people who do play on a daily basis. Definatly enough to keep the game running.
Only reason the game feels empty is the lack of content, lack of background music and too many servers. They really need to do a purge.

Quote the RPGvault article that is on SWG main news now:
"According to figures revealed by publisher LucasArts this summer, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided had "over 500,000 registered users, with more than 115,000 players logging into the game every day." Interestingly, these very substantial numbers were achieved despite the fact it didn't have what many fans would consider a core aspect of the Star Wars experience. "
If we make a very rough estimate, by taking the 115000 daily logons and dividing it with the amount of servers incl TS which is 26, we get a very rough figure estimating the average number of players logging on daily per server: 115000/26 = 4400. Same math with the registered players 500000 gives 19000 per server.
Error sources:
- multiple logons per same player on same/different server
- multiple accounts/alts per player
- changeof player population since summer?
- ...just to name a few.
I don't thing the game is dying...the forums are just biased. Many of the people that are content, are busy playing
(unless like me, at work with no access to game).
It's like the daily press: bias is always on the bad news. Who wants to read good news anyway? /sigh
The 500k, number while very impressive for a MMORPG, was taken from the period we had trial accounts and before the big decline.
There was a flood of players leaving shortly after Pub 10 hit and then things leveled off and perhaps grew some with the JTL launch. Now we are in another period of contractioncaused mainly by the launch of EQ2/WOW. My guild has been hit hard by this. You can really see the change in Coronet. Its the one place that should be really crowded, if its not, you know there is a problem. If their subscriber bases was increasing they'd sure be talking about it.
