Why does area attack only damage targets that are engaged with you unless you are targeted on them? I've noticed that you can only damage the targeted object and only damage with the area effect on targets that are engaged with you. Otherwise, does nothing. Combat queue says you are doing damage, you see the hits coming off their head, but no damage
I've also noticed as rifleman with strafe2, trying to land dots on multiple target with a poison rifle. Unless the other pvpers were actively attacking me, I didn't do anything to them. Why is it this way? was there some nerf or reason for this that I missed somewhere?

Ive never really noticed if it actually does damage or not. I just assumed it did since the queue says it and things kept dieing. Gonna have to try this out

It does not do damage (although the numbers show up.) Don't know, the devs seem to ignore the fact that this is the Flamethrower's worst issue. Same with Spin attack, area attack, etc.

pistoleer is hell. Multi-target, and fanshot suck. Multi-target doesn't work at all and fanshot is bugged. Amazing how somthing this key to the game goes unfixed.

There are a lot of bugs with ranged AOE's
AOE's will agro through walls.
If too many items are in the cone of affect it only damges your primary target. This is what happened after they fixed it for when there to many items all the damage was added up, including damage to corpses and applied to the primary target.
Shooting at a target that is out of range while there is a target in range and in the cone of fire results in a infinate shooting at the out of range target. Sometime requireing you to un equip the gun to do anything.
Shoting at out of range targets sometimes subtracts the ham costs

If anyone wants an easy test of this, go to a lair, stand by lair targeting an animal that just spawned. Make sure you stand on top of the lair. Do Point blank area or Spin attacked depending on if you are ranged or melee. Only with the animal targeted. Look at your computer queue. It will spam that you shoot or hitso and so lair for ### damage. But observe that the lair takes no damage at all.
Also, targeting the lair and doing area attack. watch the animals spawn and take damage, If the animals are high enough in ham that you can get them to the point that they retreat once almost dead. Then you will notice that although the queue says you are hitting them, you aren't. They will have the +head head+, +arm hit+, etc coming off thier heads but no actual damage numbers. You have to untarget the lair, and target the mob directly to do anything.

not quite right. you can target the lair with an aoe, and kill everything that spawns, but it has to aggro you or a group member first. i send in my pet to hit a lair, then attack it w strafe2. as creature pop, i hit the lair, they aggro me or the pet, and then they die. still, it's a very borked way for it to work.
the wall thing is much worse though. really a bummer to hit the wrong key and call up everything from the cave to come say hi all at once.

That's what I meant, target the lair, and you will kill the animals, but if they break off attack, you can no longer AOE them

Forgot about that bug, thought you were talking about another one. I see this with night sisters mostly.

If you attack them and they go into retreat mode the AOE quits working on them even though they are the primary target, you shot at them and the floaters are flying off them. They just sit there with the little sliver of health.
I Have to stop, clear my queue, sometimes change weapons and use a non AOE to finfish them off.

This is a known bug.
The correspondent in the pistoleer forum stated they are looking into a fix for this (don't have link sorry.)

Very annoying with Janta/Mokk too.

It is interesting to note that while some AOE attacks will not do damage to mobs who aren't agro on you, they *will* inflict state effects on mobs who aren't agro on you. Try throwing any cone attack with a state effect (Flushing Shot 2, Flurry Shot 2, etc.) at a group of mobs who are not agro on you, and you'll damage the primary target, you'll see floaty damage numbers on all other targets but they will not actually take damage, and some of them will incur the state change if they did not resist it.
So, the question is, why do mobs incur the state change from my cone attack, while simultaneously *not* incurring the damage from my cone attack even though the floaty damage numbers appear?

That whole combat thing is borked. I hate doing spin attack on a lair only to have all the creatures who are almost dead run away and no longer take damage. Along with that, they teleport 100m away.........stupid teleport.
