Thread: Y-8 Mining Guide (Working around the known bugs)

Ok first off lets start with the basics:
  • Equipment : equipping your ship should be childsplay but a lot of people make the mistake of installing a tractor beam ((THIS IS BUGGED)) as far as i know the tracktor beam is only usefull for starfighters, heres what you should be fitted out with (bare minimum)


    • reactor

    • engin

    • shield

    • capacitor

    • 2X strong (pob) cannons (these are your defence turrents upper/downer)

    • 1x mkII or elite mining laser

    • droid interface

    • droid computer v6

    • cargo hold (Large or y-8 compatible)

    • in placement of lower turrent you can equip a PLAYER MADE tractorbeam. this is controled from the pilot control by binding a key to tractorbeam.

    • tractor beam can be bound to a key useing the keybind tool But you must make the toggel macro as the command from the menu is a little bugged cos it only works one way HOWEVER here is the magical macro command /ship weapon toggleTractor (use a cap T)



this is the bare minimum you need, you can fit it out with anything else you need afterthat is your choice.

Equiping your guns must be done in order.

  • Weapon 0 = defence weapon

  • Weapon 1 = Defence weapon OR (crafted)tractorbeam reward tractorbeams do not work well (still bugged a bit)

  • weapon 2 = Mining laser (best result use a crafted elite mining laser)


    • Droid commands: no pilot should be without a onboard
      computer or astromech droid, these AI systems are Integrule to a ships
      system. each command can be used by any pilot (reb/imp/free) and you
      can buy chips form almost any one who can program them. here are the
      droid commands (program chips) you will need.


      • Imperial commands



        • weapon overload - 3

        • engin overload - 3 (optional)


      • freelance


        • capacitor overload - 4

        • reactor overload - 4

        • Capacitor >> shield Shunt - 4


      • rebel


        • none they all suck






    after your droid is programed with these 5 commands (you
    should also think about the counter commands they can help if your
    systems are low) you can activate them at the opperations pannel at the
    front of the ship. each command will take a number of seconds to
    compleat but the most effective ones would be the capacitor and weapons
    overload.


    note

    don't be tempted to use engin or weapon overload - 4 as they are less effective then 3, (bug i think) but they will drain a lot of reactor juce and cause your systems to shut down.






    • Should you aquire a Crew? : many POB ships do require you
      man the ship with no less then 3 people, one pilot & two gunners,
      HOWEVER this is not a normal POB ship and it can be manned solo if your
      equipped the correct way. (read above equipment guide)

      when piloting a Y-8 you need to understand two things 1, your
      ship is best piloted in 3rd person & 2. you should always rember to
      activate your droid commands before you leave the spacestation
      area, if you wish to aquire a crew you may do so a 5man crew is
      the optimal for this ship. 2 gunners 1 pilot and 2 helmsmen (one of
      whom can leave to fetch sodas or repair the ships systems)


      • your crew


        • Pilot - the pilot is the main man in the ship as he pilots
          the ship and mines the ore, however as the pilot you must take in to
          account your fellow crew members and do just one thing, Fly Slow the reason for this is so your defence (turret gunners) can get clean shots at wouldbe attackers.

        • Gunners - the gunners job is simple if it shoots you, Shoot
          back! aided by the pilot flying speed you can be a crack shot or just
          another cump behind the turret of a ship.

        • helmsmen - unlike other POB ships this one can have two
          opporations personal, both of whom can activate droid commands, use
          comms & activate pilot commands. (also launch missilies i think,
          but don't quote me on that one) the helmsmen is the guy to call on when
          your shields are badly breached as he can press the might DROID COMMAND
          button that shifts power from capacitors to shileds (cap>shield
          shunt 4)


          this command can get you out of any sticky situation with low shields, and is vitle while mining in kessel for dimond ore.



    • Known bugs (updated may 26th):

      • Ship item count error can not drop items in ship. (fixed)

      • tractorbeam not working (not sure still)

      • crosshair aim off center (better in ship view then cockpit view.)

      • missing loot box (no fix yet)

      • 2nd reactor conduit hidden behind lower decks cant be accsessed.(no fix)

      • unable to move items up or down (no fix)

      • can not add new admins to ship admin list (no fix)


    If you know any more bugs post them here and ill update. also if you have any extra info for me about y-8 mining please send me
    a PM with the details and ill update the guide.

    Its "bugged", meaning that the angle on turrets are not efficient enough for one to shoot asteroids and another dragging them into cargo with the tractor beam. Other than that, it works like anyother ship, equip it, fly it.

    currently the y-8 is bugged in reguards to decor and dropping items in it. not only this but this POB dosn't have a loot container like the rest. hopefully this will be fixed in a patch soon.

    I had an interesting idea to optimize minning with friends. Have your Y-8 equipped like you said except instead of having a crew have those same 5 people in fighters with thier own minning lasers and tractor beams. Have the Y-8 blow off chunks of the big rock and have the smaller ships fly around collecting the res. This would most likely only work in a guild situation where you trust the other pilots.



    Also this is good if you get attacked beacuse the fighters can switch to escort mode and take down ships hitting the Y-8 and if needed pull them off while the Y-8 makes a jump to Hyperspace.

    Lately I've found mining with the Y-8 (for me at least) can't be done. I've got everything equipped that I'd need, cargo hold, mining laser (mk II) etc, but nothing happens when I fire on an asteroid. I've tried putting the miner in different weapon slots, but to no avail. I'm beginning to think it's a major bug. No one else seems to be experiencing it however. I even tested using my TIE aggressor instead and it worked, so I know it's not universal for my ships. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

    When i shoot the big asteroids nothing happens. I have everything equipped.

    It also appears that the turrets can't be used for mining. I loaded mine up with 3 mining lasers and headed to a nearby iron asteroid. The only one of the three that broke rock or harvested was the forward firing laser. I REALLY HOPE THIS IS A BUG! Otherwise, this ship is near useless to me.

    just to clairfy you don't need an escort unles your in kessel. you can use capacitor to shield shunt 4 to regen your shields on a mass scale even if your shields are lvl 10 with 3k/3k max power (no need to worry about the gen rate much) the shield shunt command only needs to be manned by one person and as its a defence command it takes only a few seconds till it can be used again. if you have one pilot and one helmsmen you can do well with out the crew to man the turrets cos the turrests are only for defence not mining so i gather. personly there should be two forward guns one for laser and one for the Tractor beam or even have the tractor beam built to an elite mining laser that would pwne,

    Just so everyone knows the chunks will not spawn if there is no one in the pilot seat. I tested this out. I loaded the mining laser to the top turret position. I had someone in the pilot seat and I was able to blow off chunks. As soon as I had them leave the pilot station it stopped spawning the chunks. So in order to have mining done from the other turrets you need to have them manned by other people.

    ok heres a LOVLY macro for you Y-8 pilots to use.

    make sure you make it and bind it.

    /ship weapon toggleTractor

    this will switch ON and OFF your tractorbeam from the pilot seat, also here is the Gun possitions

    Weapon 0 - upper turret
    weapon 1 - lower turret
    weapon 2 - Mining cannon (ie the cannon mounted on the side of the ship)

    No need to make a macro. Goto the options menu then to keymaps. Under "all" you will see there is "Tactor Beam Toogle" just bind this to a key and you don't have to waste a function key.
