What if part of the Jedi formula is your demeaner on these boards...unlikely...yet I seems to see a direct link between in game preformance issue and this websites preformance issues.

I am a smuggler and I have slicing 4. I am thinking about dropping slicing 4 and going back to 3. I have a ton of molecular clamp crates and a factory to make them. I can make a few schematics, drop to slicing 3, and get better slice results. Is this accurate?

Here's why I am considering this...

My slice %'s are low and people are now starting to ask if I have slicing 4 and they wonder if I am bugged? You know what... I don't blame them, I'd want to know as well!

First off, let me start of by saying that I like this game, despite it's flaws. And I believe that this gams still has potential. I know very little about coding, and even less about business. However, a thought has occured to me, and I'd like to share it will all of you.

Star Wars is a golden opportunity for any company. Huge profits are to be made off of this, as even poorly done merchandise still rakes in big bucks. So how then does a company like SOE take a golden opportunity like this and f*ck it up so badly? I think I may have some idea.

Everquest.

Think about it. EQ has been SOE's baby for about a decade, and they're getting ready to launch EQ2. There have been many MMORPGs come and go, but none of them have had the dominance like EQ, or been able to knock EQ from it's lofty perch. That is, until LucasArts decided to try their hand in the MMORPG market by creating a Star Wars game that would allow people to live in this exciting universe. SOE is part of the larger Sony Corporation, and thus they are interested in what any corporation is interested in: money. However, Sony is obviously proving short sighted on this issue. They don't see a chance to make money, and make tons of it, for the next 10+ years, they see a threat to their market dominance with EQ. So here's two questions:

1) How many people would leave EQ (and possibly not sign up for EQ2) if SWG was the great game we were promised?

2) How many people would have actually signed up to play either EQs?

The second may seem irrelevant, but how many of us are experiencing our first MMORPG with SWG? I know this is my first. I was never interested in EQ, and I don't care how pretty the movies and pictures are of EQ2, I STILL am not interested. The second is relevant because so many people ARE thinking of playing EQ2, because of the pretty pictures and movies about it. Thus, to SOE, SWG presents a THREAT to their market dominance with EQ (a brand that belongs to them, not someone else). With EQ, they can rake in all the profit, but with SWG, that profit has to be split with the involved Lucas companies.

So, what to do about SWG. I believe that SOE went to LucasArts with honey dripping from their caustic marketing mouths and wooed LucasArts into believing SOE would be the best choice to bring this game to SW fans. In the meantime, in a scheme worthy of Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine, behind the scenes the plan to ruin this game was afoot. By having both EQ and SWG under one roof, they could insure EQs dominance in the market place. How else can you explain so many of the wrong headed decisions they created (throwing out continuity to allow for rampant Jedi, a non-existent GCW, and crap PvP, to name a few)? In the end, the fact is that per subscription, they will gain more money from EQ than from SWG.

At least, this is what I'm beginning to suspect, but then, I could be wrong. Please feel free to post whether you think I'm right or wrong, or even what you're take on all of this is. But please, if you one star this post, please have the sack to say why. And if you're SOE, don't lock and delete this thread, but post why this is a wrong conclusion.

I hate to be the one to break it to you but the majority people who play EQ are not interested in the gamestyle of SWG. I have a lot of friends that I hang with on a regular basis that have played EQ for many years and not a one of them is slightly interested in moving to SWG and leaving EQ. A couple of them have tried SWG but always go back to EQ.

Yes, but I'm not talking about your friends, or the majority of the people. I'm talking aobut a corporation interested in profits. You can't argue against the fact that they stand to make more money ontheir own brand (EQ), than with a brand that they do not wholey own (Star Wars).

As for the friends who tried SWG, and then went back to EQ, how many of them stayed for the entire year it's been out, and how many of them would have stayed with SWG, or even kept both subscriptions, had SWG had a working GCW and viable PvP?

Again, my point was not about you, me, your friends, my friends, those who play EQ and those who don't. My point was the possibility of corporate profits being incentive enough to keep SWG from being the great game it could possibly be.

I don't know much about business, butI could see how they might do this. Although I also believe that it would be stupid for soe to do this, as they stand to make alot of money with both games. I don't know, if I were soe, I'd be on top of both of them, seeing as how Everquest and Star Wars are both pretty strong brands, and thus, I'd be raking in the money. Wish I owned soe

nice little conspiracy thereoy, but no. SWG and EQ are vastly different games. i have played both. SWG since launch and EQ for over a year (got up to lvl 62). they are completely different and neither one is a threat to the other.

Heh, I'm just putting it out there for discussion In all actuality, I'm trying to understand WHY some of the things that have happened to this game have happened. Why, after a year, is the GCW STILL meaningless and broke? Why, after a year, are we still seeing bugs from beta, and why haven't they been fixed? Much discussion and debate has gone on regarding this, but it hasn't really ever answered our questions. TH recently announced that the combat balace and GCW have been pushed even further back, because they want to get it "right". Well, why didn't they get it right the first time, or close to it? Did Jedi even need the priority they got? The answer to the last one was NO! End of story. The timeline this game takes place in doesn't allow for ramapant Jedi, and this game would still have been fun and viable without the need for Jedi.

So this leads me to think that maybe the devs just don't care. I don't want to believe this, as this opens up other avenues of questioning. Such as why is SOE letting a group of people who do not care about this project work on it, at the risk of angering their customer base and losing money? (No matter what you think, Sony IS a corporation, and corporations DO worry about the bottom line, money). And if SOE isn't aware that this is happening, what does that say of SOE as a company? And if SOE is allowing this, what does it say of their parent company, Sony? Also, if the devs ARE competent, then there leadership would seem not to be. If that's the case, is SOE burying their head in the sand, that things aren't going as great as they're being told by those in charge of SWG? Again, a ton of questions, which to me, are more unsettling than if SOE was willing to destroy SWG for their EQ brand, because of profits. Would it be wrong? Yes. Would it be shortsighted? Yes. But it wouldn't be the first time a company made the wrong decision.

And you're probably right that they're vastly different (never played EQ, never will). And in my opinion, they shouldn't be a threat to each other. However, if you're sights are set on profits only, what would make sense, profit wise, to you? Develop and publish a game that you own wholly (meaning every cent goes back to you), or develop and publish a game that does not wholly belong to you (meaning you split the profit with other companies)? I know, they've done both

Given companies penchant for moving jobs overseas where people work for practically nothing, hire workers at such hours that they don't have to pay for or offer benefits, and heap more job responsibility on a few workers rather than hire more, all in the name of increasing the bottom line, something like this would not surprise me.

And let's say, just for the moment, that what I'm saying is right. They will have already made tons of money before SWG gets driven into the ground, and if such a thing were to happen, the failure of said game could be spun in such a way as to suggest that players were simply not interested in playing long enough to sustain it at a level similar to EQ. Thus, a MMORPG set in the SW universe would not likely see the light of day again, as it would possible be viewed as a fruitless endeavor.

Personally, I hope I'm wrong, that there's some sort of kink, yet to be discovered, that is causing this game to be the way it is. I hope that's the case, and that they'll discover the kink and fix it (hire more competent leadership, more competent devs, maybe seeing that the staff for this game needs to be larger than initially anticipated, whatever), thus paving the way for this game to be what it CAN be. Either way, I and alot of other people, have questioned, and continue to question, the direction this game is going in. I pay my $15 a month, and while I don't think everything should be the way I personally want it, I do expect some honest, truthful explanations about this. Not marketing crap, not the lies and half-truths (which are still lies) that we've gotten and continue to get, but an honest explanation. It would certainly help things out alot around here.

Are Jedi or Squad Leaders more rare on your particular server?

Master Squad Leaders are VERY rare on most servers, but novice SLs vs Jedi is much more evenly matched.

Im still going to go with more Jedi.

I only know of a few other SLs on Scylla. And I am the only MSL I know of. On top of that, across servers, I am the only MSL/MBH I know of. One guy said he was going to do it, but I don't know if he came through.

<---As rare as a RP Jedi.

Ahazi has quite a few MSLs...I was thinking about holding a SL convention someday.

But the Jedi are stillmore numerous.

Heck.. I think we have the most jedi on our server

I have seen way more jedi on gorath than SL's by far. It may be that they don't want master squad leader as there title, but I have not seen many SL's at all. So I am going with way more Jedi on Gorath
