Thread: CB, Before you swing the giant nerf bat

The rumors surrounding the CB are running hot and heavy. Chief among them are that buffs will be capped. Ive heard players say they will be hard capped at anywhere from 1,000 to 1,200. Okay there are a lot of things that are out of balance and need corrected. No single player should be able to beat a giant Krayt Dragon. No single player should be able to defeat a Night Sister Elder either. Because of the way the professions are currently skilled, crafters aside, you primarily see players choosing TKM, Two handed, Bounty Hunteror Jedi. Then of course you have the pvp templaters.

But if you hard cap buffs at such a low level you will succeed at ruining the game. I dont imagine you will scale back the mobs that you returned their special abilities to not long ago. So if you hard cap buffs, you will force group play and group play only to go after higher end mobs. And the first issue with that is that you ruined groups when you stopped the message looting. The lack of notice gives ninja looters open season. So just hunting with players you trust would seem to be the answer to ninja looting. With player populations dwindling, finding players you trust is becoming more and more a challange. And lets not forget that not every player desires to play in groups. There are a significant number of players that prefer the solo adventure. And for new or low level Jedi group hunting is a quick ticket to the bounty hunters terms. So unless you remove the exp loss for death for Jedi, you place another overwhelming disadvantage to that profession. And for a Jedi, having a low cap for buffs with out armor and well you can guess the result.

Lets look at our Docs. They spend a great deal of time and effort trying to find the best material to create the best buffs. This is a challenge for many of the crafters. If you put an artificial cap on buffs you remove a lot of the motivation for crafting.

Ive listed a number of issues, but what about solutions? For group hunting, lets use Krayts as an example. If the CB requires group hunts to take these beasts down, how many players will it take? Say its a minimun of 6 players, each player if honest would have to sit through 6 kills to have a chance at a loot drop. This can get old very fast and can leave a number of players out of the payoff. So what if everyone in the group gets the same loot each time. Say the first dragon drops tissues, then every player in that group gets the tissues. If a dragon drops a pearl, then the six players in that group get the pearl. The thing that this type of payout insures is thatit will be worth the time and effort. The other benifit that seems to concern the Devs, is that the value of pearls would go way down and you would see fewer players getting rich buy asking huges prices for these items, throwing the economy out of whack.

Bottom line here is dont just swing the nerf bat because you think it will improve the game in your opinion. Listen to what players, paying customers are saying. If you super nerf buffs as an example and leave the mobs as they currently are,then there is no point in playing a game where all you are doing is dieing. And fighting chubba's all day is no ones idea of fun. Fun and challenge is why I play. Content is what will keep the game moving forward, not nerfing it. Remember how cool the Vette was when it first came out? Thats more of what we need in the game, not more ways to constrict the players experience. I dont envy the Devs as they they try to reel in and correct some fundimental errors in the game. But much of that has been here a long time and players have come to expect certain things, like good buffs. If you take that all away, how many will you lose as a result?

how is capping the buffs at 100 going to kill the game with master swordsman a full set of comp and no buff i could take down 3 or 4 warlords and cheifs without geting killed the buffs are curantly over kill and should be powerd down. its like people go after the 2500-3000 buffs when i can get on with out much making a dint on my bars with a 1800 buff or lower if it wasnt for the enc on comp i could live just using food.

Uber weapons ive heard will b NERFed!


i also heard cm might be atken out of the game and rilfeman will be completely rubiish and melee will lose alot of defence ...... jedi will be taken out of the game ...... all rumours


i bet most of these wont happen as alot of people are hoping this will be 1 hell of a revamp and make the game alotbetter so unless SOE is retarded they wont nerf buffsas this wud meanprobily 50% of people wud leave,the only thing i cud put money will get nerfed is stacking


no1 really know what to expect all i can say is it better be great

from what i read the combat revamp is going to make it so there isnt one godly armour like comp but there will be armour for diferant things like some might good for energy and studff while others might have kinetic and stuff.


melee should be took down a bit as they can solo just about anything and i doubt punching some1 or bating some1 with a pole should be stronger than gun fire and explosives the main thing i heard was stuff that takes up more sp like comando and bounty hunter will have more damage than fencer and rifleman to compensate for the loss you take by using them.


as for buffs soe has said they will be in the revamp so they will change cause even with out armour i can solo sharnaffs at novice swordsman were i should be scared of them and have to have people help me kill them the thing this combat balance is gona do is put ch further into pvp as you wont be able to solo half the pets.

OH GOD NO!! Not pokemon wars again.... Thats how it was the first 2 months and it was awefull.... everyone was a CH and had 3 Rancors out around theed. SO annoying. So un-star warsy. I hope they never bring that back to that level.

Im CH and im COMPLETELY useless in PvP. No, we wont be uber anymore. And we cant have 3 rancors out anymore. If armor is nerfed it wont be complete crap. A TKM or 2 can still have nerfed buffs and nerfed armor and manage to take one out.


You see, all this high end content like Krayts and Night Sisters are SUPPOSED to be impossible to kill solo. Thats the way the game was designed. Planets like Dathomir are SUPPOSED to be a scary, challenging place to travel through. The devs have a lot riding on this CB, I doubt they will completely screw it up.

Even as a CH if you were around then you have to admit it looked more like a japanese trading card cartoon show than starwars.


And if CH is even just slightly overpowered or gives the tiniest amount of leyway in PVP we are gooing to see all the uBeR d00d5 running around with critters. I dont mind having CH being made formidible once again, just for christs dont over do it devs. This game is NOT pokemon... everyone should not be walking around saying "I choose you Pikachu" and out pops their uber BE'd Squall.

IMO, a 'nerf bat' for ground combat (if that's what the CURB turns out to be, which I do not know) wouldn't be such a bad thing.


The most fun I've had in this game, combat-wise, was when hunts where long, scary and 'required' (I hate that word) groups.

To me, if a hunt isn't challenging and more than a little bit scary, something's wrong. It's the danger of 'loss' that makes one's heart pound and brings some level of excitement.

just remember that they increased the ham of high level creatures and npc's into the 100's because of the quality of buffs/armor/food/weapons/templates that players were using. You can only assume that they would decrease their dificulty if the quality of these things are reduced during the CU.

yes, i remember.. and now it looks so star warsy with everyone running around in a full suit of comp armor swinging a hammer or scythe.

Hell I'll 5 star you for that. Back in the pre-release days everyone was making a fuss about there even being melee proffesions, now nearly no one is not a melee prof. Oh you have to love the ebb and flow of nerf, nerf, nerf, fix, nerf. Sooner or later Image Designer is going to be the flavor of the month. Get working on your ID template now

Hey did you happen to play in the beginning, when there were no buffs? Many of us around during that time had ten times more fun, un-buffed, taking down baz nitch lairs in groups of 10 rather than soloing one as super-buffed-man-I-can-conquer-all. We used to HAVE to wear bone armor, there wasn't anything else yet. A scout blaster was the cooooolest weapon ever! Docs were needed desperately in all med centers for HEALING. Not buff bots. Just something to think about
