i remember in the early days 40 or so of us, with pets scattered about, tried to raid fort tusken. we tore through the ones around the hill up to the main enterance (they used to spawn there too. in fact, there used to be a LOT more then there are now.)then we started to fight the ones inside. well, we cleared some of them out from the tops, but then they started respawning so we had to fall back, and we would repeat. people would fall, docs would res, we would push forward and fall back, and it was FUN.


Today i went in the squill cave unbuffed/unarmored, same way i always go into places, with only my republic blaster and greater desert womp rat to protect me. it was really suspenseful, even though people were camping it. i didnt know if they were going to spawn on me or not. it was fun.


i can only hope that the CB brings that feeling back.

I fully agree with the original poster. The devs will have to be uber careful with the combat upgrade/rebalance...


- Every combat profession wants to be no. 1

- Balancing creatures vs the abilities of all combat professions + buffs+ armor= extremely difficult

- Players still want to be able to solo most mobs... yet they feel like grouping should be required for some others...

- EQ2 (with its grouping required approach) has proven that players don't want to be forced to group (the EQ2 team is currently working like mad to add solo content)

- Loot is a real problem... you can't make it so that 5+ players are required to kill a Krayt and then only every 10th dragon drops a pearl (there's only very little hardcore players going on high end mob hunts at the moment... the combat nerf might even further reduce the number of adventurers)

- There's totally crazy weapons out there with insane damage and DoTs (what do you do about them when the revamp is here? how do you NOT piss off the players who paid millions for weapons like this? or do you risk pissing off the individual player but nerfing these weapons into oblivion for the "greater good"?)


I could go on and on but if you look at the points above then I must say that I don't envy the devs. I have no compassion for them either. It was *them* who decided to release an unfinished game and allowed to happen what has happened to this day. It's their own dumb fault that they are now trapped in a very difficult situation. Still, I don't envy them... this nerf is going to hurt ALL of us and there will be much pain all around. All we can hope for is that they find the right balance. I wish them good luck in this endeavor.

If you don't want grouping then why are you playing a Massivly MULTIPLAYER online roleplaying game. If you want solo, go play Knights of the Old Republic or something.

All I can say is this


Some testers for the Combat Nerf have dropped from the testing. The ppl the correspondents felt were the most appropriate for the job, had a real love for the game/their profession QUIT being testers.

They are gonna make the game fun again? I can't wait.


First of all if anyone from launch is still here mobs like the krayt had 27k ham. They need to put the game back to where it was a year and a half ago. It was fun. Groups of people went out and had fun. You couldn't fo to Fort Tuskan without a group of 20. Those early days were so much fun and was when the server populations were at their highest.


Tonight on Scylla we had an event where a group of us went from one outpost on Yavin to the other. It was 12k of walking. Eightof us went unbuffed andunarmored. No one died and it was alot of fun. If they can make this happen in PvP and PvE the game will be great again.

Ah, the ago old rant that multiplayer automatically means grouping to do anything and everything. Well it doesn't. Having more than yourself in a game does equal multiplayer, which this game is. Forcing players to group to access a large portion of the game will automatically lock out many casual players (or those who don't wish to get involved inPA's)and they will simply leave. Less people in game is not a good thing. More people in the game gives places like Theed and Coronet the feeling of being populated and alive. This game accomidates a great MANY playstyles which, in my opinion, is its greatest draw. Mess with that formula and you'll be looking at a server collapse just to keep the number of players up.

This is not the early days of the game, this game is over 18 months old now. Ive killed my vorts in groups, Ive killed Krayts in groups, Ive done all that stuff in groups. The thing is, why would I want too have a group now too kill a nest full of Vorts? What do i as a veteran player get out of that? Absolutely nothing!!!


To me that is not fun, back then yes it was fun, it was new so it was fun. If they nerf this game back too the way it was, where it takes 4+ people too take down a high end mob, then I'll quit, you might say you wont but you will as well. It will get very old very quick not being able too get 25% of the loot you are getting now, if that with the ninja looters that will creep up again.


Ive put faith in SOE before in their publishes and such and where are we at today? A good game yes, but nothing like what they promised us. If you really think SOE is gonna get this right, your in for a big letdown... again.

The thing is something's got to give because combat as it stands is just silly.

A little while back (whilst fully buffed, mind buffed & compo'd) I accidently caught the attention of an SBD at the 0,0 spawn on Endor. I stood toe to toe with this thing for a few minutes before realising that this was going to be one hell of a long battle that I simply did not have the time or inclination for so I slap on burst run & head towards the nearest starport.

Now I don't know if you guys are aware of this but SBDs can move at burstpeed rate! So a minute later I'm about a quarter of the way to the starport and I've got a the same SBD raining down upon me again. I realise I'm going to have to see this one out.

So to cut a long story short: about 25 minutes, 2 burstruns , a good 40+ uses of my Stim D pack and a fair chunck of armour condition later I finally solo the damn SBD.

The thing is that at no real time was I concerned that this SBD was actually going to kill me, I just became more and more frustrated with how long it was taking me to whittle away his 500billion HAM.

It's a similar thing fighting Rancors, I mean I go semi afk whilst soloing the lairs for goodnes sake. Somethings gotta give.

It's impossible to pick one thing say buffs and look at what they might do to them without seeing the whole picture. If buffs are reduced and nothing else changed then it's a nerf; but if buffs are reduced, armour changed, mob HAMs adjusted and experience rewards adjusted then a drop in buff levels might not be so bad.

I'd like to see plenty of soloable content remain but also for the real high end content to demand a bit of teamwork and tactics rather than just a def stacked player with HAM so high that he heals up quicker than he takes damage.

I guess we will have to wait and see.
