So I just got this "free 10 days of SWG" email... figured why not, might as well try it (since my attempts to acquire WoW beta failed
)...
My question I guess is this, when I left SWG... like 9 month ago I think... I had several impressions engraved in my mind about the game. They were:
- Pointless quests. Some had nice story, some were somewhat cool. NOT one to my recollection ever provided me with a useful reward. Badges were just coming into the game (think the max you could have then was like 7), but they also seemed pretty pointless.
- Very cool crafting system and a very poorly balanced economy. Seemed like there was WAY too much money going into the game at end game... which drove the price on rare stuff astronomically high. I seem to recall millions for a single gun.
- Lack of loot. Everyone and their mother was camping kryats.cause they seemed to be the only ones dropping useable loot... yeah I seem to recall getting something from Nym's once, don't remember what it was called, and I think Night Sister armor shards once or something, but overall loot seemed to be very scarce and therefore made hunting somewhat pointless.
- Heavily imbalanced PvP. I remember bounty hunters spaming eyeshot, commandos one shotting people with flamethrowers, CM's killing masses with mind poisons.... etc. Also seem to recall the "pokemon" syndrome. And buffs seemed really dumb to me.... they pretty much multiplied your stats by like 3-4x... I played a Doc and it seemed just stupid to me that they should be so powerful...
So I guess my question is, has anyone of that changed substantially? Have other major problems surfaced? I am just sorta bored right now... waiting for the patcher to download several years worth of updates..

Hmm. Quests are still pointless. Crafting system is cool, and economy is still poorly balanced. Too much pointless loot, and too much loot that is impossible to get. Heavily imbalanced PvP: Commandos and about15 other professionsdon't stand a chance against melee stackers or mind drainers. Good news is the hologrind system has been removed!!! Only to be replced with...the millions of xp grinding system, just without having to master professions! Welcome back, enjoy the stay.

Yeah, what he said.
I just cancelled my account finally about 5 minutes ago. It sucks because I love the game and concept, but am simply unwilling to fund a broken game anymore. Speaking of WoW, the beta is excellent IMHO. That game is more fun in beta and works better than SWG in it's current state. ThePVP server is great. I really dislike the fantasy theme personally (don't like being a level 47 sword swallower
) however I must give credit to blizzard. I am actually planning to play that game in live, and I originally figured I never would. I haven't given up hope on SWG, but will not be trying it again nor buying JTL until I hear PVP, among other things, is working properly...

Rewards got better, more quests in game, quests still as dumb as ever. Badges matter now.
- Very cool crafting system and a very poorly balanced economy. Seemed like there was WAY too much money going into the game at end game... which drove the price on rare stuff astronomically high. I seem to recall millions for a single gun.
Crafting system got cooler, economy according to devs is doing great and losing money. but many still disagree. Things cost even more now on average. People seem to make more now too though. Seems balanced to me.
The loot got better.... how much better is a matter of opinion :/

Creature handlers were nerfed to hell. Rifleman/doctor/combat medic/tka seem to be about the easiest PVP professions to get into. Other professions can now survive in PVP but only via various skill attachments and loot dropped weapons with DOTS. Pikeman for example is horrid in PVP, but get some speed/accuracy attachments and a small armory of mind attacking DOT weapons and you'll rule. Or fencer, a class that most others have a very hard time hitting, but on the other hand can't really hurt anyone due to low dmg. BUT... get some high end "Acklay Bones" from the Geo Cave and then maybe you'll have the most powerfull weapon in the game. Overall there is definately more variety in PVP now, alot more dimension added to it I think, but it still has some horrible flaws.
So I guess my question is, has anyone of that changed substantially? Have other major problems surfaced? I am just sorta bored right now... waiting for the patcher to download several years worth of updates..

That sentence right there sums up the feelings ofmost veteran players left in this game. Don't think I've everseen it phrasedin such a concise manner.

I'm also a returning player. I just came back a few days ago.
What Ive seen that hasn't changed
Mission lares spawning inside player housing and you can't target it.
Creature Handlers can still apparenlty can haveseveral huge dinosaur sized pets.

Whats changed thatI havenoticed:
You can now buy speeders.
Hides apparently no longer buy and sell on the bazzar.Nnot sure where one can sell them, without having to try to sell directly to players.I'm trying to find out. I'm sure some people sell them on there vendors but I don't want to have to set up a house, and a vendor just to sell my hides.

Lairs spawning inside player structures has gone down, in spite of the increasing density of player structures, at least to my eyes.
Yes, CHes can still call malklocs, rancors, and what-have-you. Unfortunately for them, most of their creatures are only decorative now. They got beaten senseless with the nerf bat something like 8-9 months ago.
Speeders: Thank god. That's all I can say.
You can buy hides on the bazaar, but people have been trying to sell ridiculously small amounts for the price cap. 5 units for 6k? Hah!

I've been playing since beta. I've canceled my account in december then returned in july. Now ive canceled my account again.
Little stuff changed here and there...nothing important.
There is no real loot in the game thats easily obtainable. All "uber" loot requires you to win the lottery and camp nightsisters/krayts 24/7.
There are no real quests that give any real rewards...just junk to decorate your house with.
There is no pvp...just people with buffs and "melee stackers" who are really hard to hit and make pvping worthless.
All ranged professions suck now except rifleman.
They introduced god-mode for the losers who decided to waste months grinding away proffesions (jedi)
Did i mention that there is no loot in this game?
thats my main gripe...how the hell can they make a mmorpg without any loot/purpose to do anything. player crafted items can only go so far...till everyone has the same player crafted items.
if you ask me AO is a way better game then this piece of sh!t.

One thing has changed for sure: players started to whine a lot more... Or got more immature... The end result is the same. I am playing for about 7 months now and I still enjoy it. JTL should prove to be a nice expansion to the game as it will enhance the Star Wars feeling. I love the crafting system in the game. Loot is steadily improving, combat revamp is now being tested on the sandbox servers, as is the GCW revamp. As far as WoW goes... there is simply nothing original about the game. Try reading this review. In my opinion, SWG is still one of the best MMORPG's around, despite the flaws it has atm. Whether that says more about SWG or about the competition, I leave for you to decide.
