Go into the folder where you installed SWG and look for the following path:

  • ..\profiles\ACCTNAME\SERVER\#####_friend_data.iff

ACCTNAME is your login name.
SERVER is well, um, the server you want the friend list from.
##### is an internal ID that the server uses; ignore it.

Load that file into your favorite editor and be prepared for a headache... 'cause it's got loads of control codes in it (and is in"unicode" format to boot).

With a fair bit of hand-editing, you'll be fine. It's all stored as you'd see it in your friend list... "Name / Surname / Comments". Just gotta do a bit of legwork.

Enjoy.

yeh but i think that file only stores the group/comments info on each friend.

whenever you format your pc youll still have the same list of friends, but it just clears all the groups and comments. the list of people is saved server side and that file you mentioned will let you edit the other info if you like doing things the hard way

I'm about 90% sure that friends lists are kept solely by the SOE servers, and not marked in any file in galaxies.
You can however type /note and bring up a note pad where you can type in all the names in your friends list.

There may be a more effective way, but since no one else has offerd anyything...

Hm. Don't think so. With the frequent client crashesI suffer, I'm used to the thing resetting my UI and keybinds and, hence, backup my profiles daily... i found out the hard way that overwriting the friendlist with an older one does, in fact, delete the newly added/deleted friends. So the file in this folder does have an impact on your in-game friends-list (similarly, your "chat logs" are saved in one of these files, so replacing one with an old file reverts your chatlog to whatever it was when you saved!)

You can test the theory... take a copy of the friend list... go in-game and add 10 random people to it. logout. replace the friend file. log in again et voila! you're back to the original friend list you saved.

Removing friends-list entries from another server requires using a /command. It's not possible to remove them via the UI or via the list in your profile folder (don't ask me why... all I know is it has something to do with cross-referencing of servers *shrug*).

Say you want to remove the name of someone who's on Starsider... the command would be as follows:

/removeFriend starsider.charname

That'll remove the entry properly.

The only exception to the "straight server names" (that I know of)are the European servers... they have a "europe-" prefix to "Infinity", "Farstar" and "Chimaera". Weird.

Hope that helps (if you didn't know it already)

yeh tried that already, their from a europe server and that commands not working
