If you cannot remove someone from another server from your friendslist (by getting back "xyz is not a valid charname" or so from the /command) this means that this char has been deleted on that server. Unfortunatly there is no way atm to delete that entry on your f-list

what im thinking of doing when i next come across a spare account is make characters on my server using the names on my friends list sothey can be removed

Doesn't work. The names are stored with an internal "server ID"... so "starsider.pooka" isn't the same as "pooka", if you're on Bloodfin.

damn that blows, was the only other way i could think of getting rid of those names

Yup. It's a definite bug in the code. The "delete friend" code should be checking against your existing friend-list, not against the server's "existing players" list.
Silly bug, really. Be sure to /bug it, in-game.
