So, all you Smugglers out there who are on the side of the Imperials, what exactly is your reasoning from a roleplaying standpoint for being a smuggler (criminal) yet also being part of the law.

I used to be Rebel but I joined the imps because of friends who are imperial.

I'm still a smuggler but I'm struggling to find a story about my character that makes sense.

Why would a smuggler work for the empire?

What are you opinions and justifications?

Theres a few reasons for this: First, most Smugglers don't care for the idealism of the Rebellion, they don't realize why people are sticking their necks out. Second, Smugglers want to be on the side that the money is on, the Rebellion is pretty much bankrupt, the Empire is rich as all hell, you do the math. Thirdly, "it is better to be the right hand of the devil, than in his path", Smugglers realize if you can't beat the Empire, join it and keep doing your illicit activities out of the public eye, in their mind, the Rebellion has no chance.

Easiest way to run guns and drugs is to do it from the inside out.
Non-rp standpoint is we are stuck with only 2 playable factions and our underworld tree is currently almost totally faction based if you want to use it. Which hopefully gets changed with our revamp. I was a reb for a few months and now I'm an imp for a change of gameplay and rp has nothing to do with it. If they added a hutt faction I would be a hutt and wash my hands of both rebs and imps.

I like to think of the imperial smuggler (which i am) as the corrupt imperial officer, always on the take, looking the other way.

Also, the Empire is the status quo. The smugglers know who can be bribed and who can't.

Then, there's the simple fact that the Empire pays well, and the Imperial propaganda machine is hard at work denouncing the Rebellion as terrorists who can destroy entire planets. Stop them now, or your planet may be next. The Rebels are generally poor (not having the taxing and money-making prowess of the Empire), so working for them is rarely a profitable venture.

Truthfully, I can see many reasons why smugglers would work for the Empire, and very few for why smugglers would sign up with the Rebellion.

The Galactic Empire is a gargantuan organisationthat is supposed to stand for law and order. Alas, most planetary gouvernors and a good chunk of the administration are corrupt as hell. Why would any Smuggler with his right mind want to overthrow such a government?

Furthermore, being imperial doesn't necessary mean that I only work for them, it only means that I have very good contacts to the power that be. But usually I make cash on both sides of the war (well, currently everyone does, but I hope that'll change someday)

Even though I'm not much of an RP, here are a few reasons I have come up with over time:

  • It is good to havea tab on those in power. If they feel indebted to you, even better. If you can corrupt them by getting them addicted to your spices andequipment'modifications',much better.

  • The rebellion wants toshake up a political system Iknow how to deal with. I may not like this devil, but I know it.

  • I assist former rebels who have seen the error of their ways and are willing to show their commitment by selling them FP.

  • I have inside ways to assist Imperialsby 'accelerating' their requisition of equipment or assistance (selling fp).

  • I am useful to help bypass Rebel security measures (slicing a base)

  • Sometimes, to serve the ideals of law and order, you must bend them.

  • I can help the Emperor by using the Rebel's own methods and tactics against them.

  • My heart is in the right place, but my actions sometimes aren't right.

Just some ideas. But for me, I look at it as the lesser of 2 evils. When a criminal faction comes out, it will need to be really horrible to keep me from joining. Until then, I serve Jabba by assisting the Empire in maintaining the very profitable status quo. I try to encourage the conflict to continue so the Hutts can sell to both sides and take advantage of things. As long as the 2 factions concentrate on each other, they ignore the criminal side.

The fence is comfy.

I can think of one imperial smuggling run worth a stack of creds easy. ImpThemePark = TIE Suit = creds.

Think like a Smuggler.

Both the ISB and Imperial Intel have reasons for putting agents into deep cover operations.Keeping an eye on criminal activity is often as usefull as putting an end to criminal activity.

If you don't want me to "play the forums," then I suggest you make time playing the game more rewarding and less repetitive than "playing" here!
