Thread: “Shoulder or holster that weapon soldier!”
Everyone hates the weapon switch delay, I think we can all agree on that. Here is my proposal for an adjustment to the issue.
Each character has 2 weapons slots, a shoulder position and holster position. Each position would be limited to certain weapons types:
Holster – pistols, stun batons, swords ect.
Shoulder – rifles, carbines, polearms, ect.
The way my idea would work is you only suffer one half the normal penalty for switching between these two weapons. While it would be nice to have animations during the switch I think we can live with weapons just “popping” between hand and the off position. There are other games that do this, and a rifle just stuck to someone’s back doesn’t look half bad. Same with a pistol stuck on their side.
The way it would work is you equip a weapon then type /shoulder and it gets put on your back. Then you equip your second weapon and type /holster.Now in combat lets say you have a carbine equipped, you do a FKD and your target is flopping around like a fish, you type /switch and you automatically shoulder your carbine and switch to your holstered weapon, in my case a pistol to unleash the eyeshot. If your target gets back up you type /switch again and you holster the pistol and grab the carbine off your back.If you pull a weapon from your inventory you still suffer the normal delay, it is only the /switch that cuts the delay. This skill would be available to any combat class, but there would be the positional restrictions I mentioned before.A side benefit is that we might be able to go into a cantina and have it look like a place of rest instead of a staging area for an invasion…that is if people actually /shoulder or /holster their weapons when entering.
Comments, or concerns that I'm thinking of...leave a reply!
I like your idea
Here's another one -- make it so you can do all your specials with all weapons that you're certified to use. How stupid is it that you can "eyeshot" someone with a carbine? If you have the weapon skill, and you have the ability to do the special, you should be able to do it with any weapon.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but it is a suggestion that affects all professions so I guessed here.

um no...that would totally unbalance combat. people could get master pistoleer and rifleman sniping so that they can spam headshot3 with a pistol, thus making BH pistols useless cuz its only good for eyeshot in pvp mostly. thats not right. or area kd with a rifle cuz you got the carb skills. or headshot (swordsman) with a stun baton. get the idea.

Umm...you can spam headshot 3 with a T-21....so why would you wanna do it with a pistol?

Yeah I agree with the shoulder and holster idea, very cool. But I wouldnt want to face a Rifleman using Last Ditch from the Smuggler tree with the "uber leet" T21 he just got. So the second idea is a no go.
It's a lot easier to get an "uber leet" pistol, than it is to get a T21....more tissues required.
And, the dps for last ditch with a rifle would not really be much better than Strafeshot2, which is an AOE attack. I actually calculated it:
with a 175-700 T21, and +100 Rifle speed:
Strafe: 3281 dps (AOE)
LD: 3937 dps (single target)
But you'd be much better off spamming HS3, for 1968 mind damage/second.
The difference is even less significant at +90 speed:
1406 for LD (healthshot 2 is higher dps actually, at 1480, as well as fanshot, at 1562)
1339 for Strafe (headshot3 = 1406, flushing shot = 1442 (AOE)
Hehe, the more I think about this, the more i like it.

1 - pistols are easier to get usually.
2 - block is the most useless defence mod, pistols get dodge which is the best, headshot with a working mod would be way overpowered
3 - rifle accuracy sucks compared to pistols at close range
think about the whole picture not just a t21, only reason rifleman is so used is cuz of headshot.
