Thread: Shouldn't Kashyyyk be a high-level planet like Dathomir?

OK, I know they want to make the RotW expansion appealing to both vets and n00bs, but is Kashyyyk an appropriate choice?

I haven't read every piece of EU out there, but that which I have read (and which I remember from KOTOR) is that Kashyyyk ain't nothin' nice. There's a reason that Wooks live in the trees, and when highly intelligent claw-sporting bowcaster-toting 7-foot tall Wookiees are leery of going down to the forest floor, I suspect it wouldn't be very accomodating for a 1/2/1/3 Mon Cal Marksman.

I know that EU continuity takes a back seat to playability in this game (and rightfully so), but does anyone else think that something less perilous would make better sense for an "all-player-access" planet?

I understand what you are saying. You've been playing for a long time it seems from your forum reg date. Do you remember what it was like going to Endor in the days/weeks following launch? If you left the outpost you were pretty much guaranteed to die, but that didn't stop people from going at all. Why? It was fun! We were exploring a new world and though it was perilous we still went out with a smile on our faces knowing we would die. I don't think that would change at all for noobs on Kashyyyk. It's a new and hopefully fun place to explore.

Just my thoughts.

Oh, I don't at all doubt it will be fun. My point is that the planet should be filled with high-level MOBs (at least as much as Dath or Endor), but based on what we've seen so far, nothing suggests Kashyyyk will be a particularly hard or advanced planet.

Again, I understand that if this is the only planet in the expansion (as opposed to having one "easy" planet and one "hard" planet), the devs must make it accessible to the casual players as well as the hard-core gamers. It just seems like they could have used another planet with as much "casual fan recognition" (Ord Mantell, for example, or Kessel) but not notoriously perilous, and thus hewed closer to continuity.

I mean, you can tell that the devs love their EU and their continuity. I wonder if they got pressue from LFL since Wooks are featured in RotS. Probably.

Well i do agree with you there. Hopefully if they do have varying levels of MOBs they will scale their difficulty higher the further we are out of the outpost(s). This would give new players areas to explore as well as entice veterans out of the mission range.

We are in serious need of new master-level/end-game content and hopefully this new planet will keep us busy for quite some time and add some draw for new players as well

I expect it to be the same difficulty as Yavin IV.

But I'm hoping it's the hardest mob planet ever.

example: the easiest mob is on par of a Canyon Krayt Dragon.

heh jk, that'd be too crazy

As I've said on several other posts, Episode III coastal Kashyyyk is different to EU dense Jungle Kashyyyk. Hopefully both will be represented.

Considering what the EU tells us, the jungles or forests or whatever are home to huge sequioa (sp?)like trees.

I hope the next planet is Kessel since they already have the space zone for that.

hopefully the lowest MOB's will be slightly higher difficulty than juvenile krayts and the highest will be ten times as hard as an SBD

Either the Lucas Arts press release or the IGN article called Kashyyk an "adventure planet". If I remember correctly that is how SOE reffered to Endor and Dathomirso it's pretty safe to guess that only harvesters can be placed on it.

Heh, after the CURB then Kashyyyk wouldn't be just a challenge-planet, it would be a full on Raid Planet. The sign posted at the starport exit would say something like, "Your own personal army is highly recommended. Leave at your own risk."

Would be fun though.

If Art Carney can walk around and travel Kashyyyk visiting Chewbacca's home, then it is NOT a dangerous planet

I suspect there will be safe cities and dangerous outback.
