Get rid of exploration badges.

Here's my reasoning: apparently, to access to the Force Sensitive village in the upcoming Publish 10, a PC needs a certain amount of badges. This number, I have heard, is 65, although that is simply hearsay, and to be honest I haven't done my homework about it. But let's have a little breakdown of the badges in the game, shall we?

If we omit exploration (because they are lame), factional (because neutral players still need to access the FS village), and "# of badges" badges, this is what we have:

5 Hero of Tatooine
2 Warren
1 Librarian
3 Swoop tracks
3 Corvette (neutral)
1 Jabba's theme park
1 Nym's theme park

For a total of 16. Even WITH the factional badges, and the Cries of Alderaan badges (restricted to new characters, even factioned ones) we have:

3 factional Corvette
1 faction theme park
3 CoA

For a maximum of 23. Let's be SUPER generous and say an "experienced player" has mastered 7 professions for a nice even number of 30. (Really, though, you can't expect people to master more than two or three professions - maybe they just know what they like.)

That means, to access the Force Sensitive village, an experienced, involved player that has been here since the beginning HAS to get THIRTY FIVE exploration badges in order to access this content!

But that's beside the point. The point is that badges are supposed to mean something; they are supposed to represent some effort or involvement with the game universe on the part of the player. All exploration badges mean is that you have a speederbike, a few credits for the shuttleport, and access to a good FAQ. I am sick of /examining people and having to wade through the mass of exploration badges to see what they have ACTUALLY done. REAL badges are to be coveted; I have almost every single one. But I consciously avoid exploration badges. In other words, I have done every REAL thing this game has to offer, and yet I'm not "high-end" enough to access the FS village.

Eliminate exploration badges and make the badge limit for the FS village at the very most 20 (remember, a neutral player would have to do EVERYTHING in the game AND master four professions to have 20 badges). Then people would respect the things like they should, and I wouldn't have to scroll down the /examine window every time I want to read someone's profile, even though I have the window almost as long as the screen.

You missed the point. The point was not the exact number, which can be altered depending on how many other REAL badges they add to the game (swoop tracks, theme parks, etc.) The POINT was that accessing the FS village hinges almost entirely on exploration badges, which suck.

If I need to get 45 exploration badges to access the FS village, I will. All I'm saying is that I will feel like I am wasting my life while I'm doing it.

Your information is incomplete. You should read more of the threads that explain what is required to get entrance to the village. When we first found the /checkforcestatus command on TC our hypothesis (based on the responses people got when they used /check) was that it took 65 badges. This has since been proven to be incorrect. Some people have gotten to 'inner glow' with as few as 21 badges.

Badges common to those people who have achieved 'inner glow' include:

3 exploration badges (to jedi-related locations)

Jabba's themepark

Nym's themepark

a factional themepark

Theed Librarian

a profession mastery

Warren badges

In some instances some of the above badges were replaced by others, such as Corvette badges or COA badges. Oddly enough, the Hero quest badges did not seem to amount to anything significant as many would have hoped.

As you can see from the list it isn't about just driving places and easily picking up a badge, it's about experiencing content in the game as well.

That's encouraging. Requiring COA badges, however, is complete folly (as new players cannot get them).

Of course, they should still get rid of exploration badges.

explore badges let players know that you have gotten out and seen the game...granted that they provide no real advantage (i've heard that 10 are needed for fs, the 3 jedi, 1 "hard" and 6 of any other explore type) but i think its kinda interesting to see who has gone where, it allows you to converse with people you don't know about experiences you know they've had since they have a badge from it. I guess this was a useless post but i guess it's appropriate for this useless thread.

Ah it's a snake, a snake, the snake, badger badger badger badger....

Seriously I don't see anything wrong with exploration badges. I enjoyed and spent a LOT of time in the game exploring the POI's, rather than grinding XP, BEFORE we even got any stinking badges. I would argue that exploring is a part of the content of the game.

A lot of the POI's would play music also, but that theory has been discounted (or has it?) I wonder if there is such thing as hidden badges? I actually would prefer this because then FS would still be mysterious.

i doubt those are something that holds weight as the 1st 2 of the 3 COA badges cannot be obtained anymore, or it is very very very very rare to find someone with a set of the disks from the 1st one...plus you need a few mill to buy it from them. making those ones almost impossible for someone to get.

What's the hard part about getting exploration badges? I got Master Explorer in one weekend, it's not dangerous, not particularly time-consuming or expensive, and it can be fun if you let it.

If your concern is that it's boring, mind-numbing or whatever, you're definitely not ready for the Village... I can imagine that's a lot of long hard work. Get your vacation out of the way now, you'll need it.

I like exploration badges. But then, I actually explored the POIs, I didn't just drive-by.

I don't think there's a problem with there being POI badges. I just think there should be MORE badges of OTHER design. There should be a Geo Lab, DWB, and Nightsister cave badge, there should be badges for quests for crafters[RIS might be good for armorsmiths], entertainers, image designers, etcetera, etcetera. There needs to be MORE content, to balance out the fact that 50 badges can be earned solely by someone with a speederbike.
Oh, and there should be a better badge display system. Like, POI badges shouldn't be shown, but the "Has earned ## exploration badges" should show, or you should be able to select which ones are displayed[with perhaps the exception of the badge collector badges?]
