Personal Whispers
By: Warryyr
If you type /whisper>PlayersNameHere Hi Fuzzball!
You'll whisper "Hi Fuzzball!" to the player (replace their first name with PlayerNameHere) that only they can hear.
A dotted-line text box pops up over you that says "Hi Fuzzball!"
Everyone else in the area sees:
Warryyr whispers to PlayersNameHere.
You will also do a whispering animation.
Speaking of animations while saying something, here's a nifty way I've mentioned before, to force your character to do an animation without saying anything in Spatial:
/sing hello
So long as you don't have Novice Entertainer, you'll perform the wave motion always triggered by saying hello. You will NOT say anything in Spatial. This is great for crowded gatherings, with a lot of waving and greeting going on, as it prevents spatial from being spammed with emote statements. Your character just does the animation. It seems more natural to me, because if I walk into a place and see some friends, I like the look of just nodding without having an emote pop up saying "Warryyr nods at JoeShmo." I just nod. Great for incognito actions by factional players On Leave
If you DO have Novice Entertainer, you get to use a text function no one else can - /sing - and it makes the text box you type stuff into look like a scroll! Great for reciting songs and poetry. And it's something unique to Entertainer.
EDIT: If you just type /whisper Hi Fuzzball!
Everyone around you will see:
Warryyr whispers, "Hi, Fuzzball!"
If you use the > between /whisper and the player's name, only you and that person will see what you typed.
Do you have a useful tip that you want to share with your fellow Star Wars Galaxies players? E-mail it to SWGTips and if we select the tip we'll post it as the Tuesday Tip and give you the credit! Send us the character name and server you'd like us to include if we post the tip.

Determining if you outrank an NPC.

Imperial Tip:
Determining if you outrank an NPC.
This is a little trick i figured out a few months ago.
We all know how much fun it can be to /slap /punch /bite and /hug Storm Troopers.
But we also know that sometimes they aren't so receptive of these advances, and will either fine you, or incap you, or both.
Well, i've got your solution:
Target the Imperial NPC, and type /salute. Keep an eye on the NPC. If he salutes you back, than you are his superior office, and outrank him. If you outrank an Imperial NPC, you are able to punish them for their actions.
For example:
Colonel Oreet is riding across the Tattooine Desert when a Storm Trooper Squad detains him for a routine contraband search. Colonel Oreet salutes the leader of the squad. The leader salutes you back. After a minute or so, he clears you to move on. Oreet slaps the leader across the face for taking up his valuable time, and the leader says "Aye sir. I apologize for my actions."
I guess a rebel is always outranked by an imperial NPC =( Oh well hehe.

Tip: Use Moods only when you really want to convey that tone. Make sure you turn the mood off by typing /mood none before you say something that doesn't fit!
I've actually not used moods (as cool as they've been since launch) because I can never remember how to turn them off!
For moods to be usable as intended, they really seem to need a different interface. Rather than only being something that goes on when toggled on and stays on until toggled off, moods also need to be selectable as a "one-shot" option. When you do a one-shot mood, it only applies to your next communication.
Andwouldn't it be nice if we had a toolbar we could dock to one side of our screen that displayed brief text descriptions of moods? (Icons are smaller, buttheir meaning isn'tas obvious as text descriptions like "grumpy" or "curious.") This would offer a very easy to use interface for quickly applying the most appropriate mood to any communication.
Just some thoughts....

you can also replace whisper with anyone chat style option to say something directly to another player
/say>warryyr Nice work Fuzzball would show: Deuce Wildcard says to Warryyr "Nice work Fuzzball"
try it out.../yell>playername or /shout>playername work too, big help in making sure the person your talking to knows your comments are directed at them.
Do you folks ever use the different moods or chat bubbles?
