Thread: Streamlined the terrain system to improve client performance
I am definitely losing patience with the devs. Prior to publish 13 I respected the devs--after publish 13 I have none. It's bad enough that they aren't taking steps to fix (probably would take a dev all of 5 minutes) but it is outright infuriating that not a single dev or correspondent hasn't discussed this issue with us.
Here are the steps I've taken so far to elicit a response from the devs:
1. Created this thread
2. /bugged the issue in-game
3. Reported the issue in 4 different "live issues" threads
4. Reported the issue in the recently created "graphics issues focus thread"
5. Sent PMs to SOETyrant, Thunderheart, and Calandryll_SOE (to the latter I complained about the lack of community correspondence), and received replies from none of them
6. Asked a CSR in the chat room about the issue, but he said he hadn't played enough to notice it
7. Mentioned the issue in 2 different "live discussion" threads (my post in one of them was deleted)
The only step I didn't take that I would have normally is post about it in the Tech Support forum, but I've had a bad encounter with one of the TSRs there in the past.
If the devs could spend a quarter as much energy interacting with us as I spent trying to communicate with them, they would be pretty amazing devs. This thread now has 100 replies, and it will soon be a month since the issue was first reported. How much longer do they plan to pretend it doesn't exist?
To those who know how, I would suggest this--start looking at a way to fix the issue with a client-side mod. This may turn out to be the only way to get this fixed.

Wonder what it does. Just unchecked it. (Was checked by default)

/me gives Blaiseball a cookie. Here don't get angry as it seems now, this thread will be here a long time since every dev ignore it.

I dont give a rip if the texture quality went down a notch, if it makes the game more playable. I am used to having to turn down all the graphics features anyway too get acceptable performance. Join the club!
Yes it is nice to see the lil fishies swimming in the lakes but I dont spend huge amounts of time starting at them. I also dont want to die as a Overt player coming into CNet, dropping down to 2 FPS just so the place can look pretty. True
Nor am I going to drop 500 bucks on the uber nuclear powered volcano 256mb DDR 8x SLI monster vid card just so I can see the scales on the fishies.
hate to say it but theres a LOT more people running stuff like 32 MB Geforce 2s than there are running 256MB 6800 vid cards And I just traded up from that same 32MB GeForce 2 to a 128MB FX5500! and the graphics are worse now than with the GeForce 2!
I have just sent excessively polite PMs to the following devs, trying the new approach of going over the correspondents heads and straight to the source. If none of these get through then I'm really at a loss at what to do next
.
- SWG-Swede --worldbuilder (ground game)
- Flazm --UI/graphics (ground game)
- swgdevjdobson --lead artist (JTL)
- Rowski --environments (ground game)
- Zoraka --QA lead of SWG
- BensonP --assistant QA analyst of SWG
I would appreciate it if others did the same, maybe we would have more luck if we bombarded all of them with PMs on this issue (one per person however, not spamming).

I just noticed a line in the PM browser that tells you if a PM has been read or not by the recipient. Of the 9 (yes, nine!) devs that I PMed about the issue, only 1 of them has apparently read my PM. And that person isn't even technically a dev, but the director of community relations to whom I complained about the lack of communication. The other 8 devs (which includes a player correspondent tragically enough) apparently don't read their PMs so they likely don't even know this graphics problem exists.
With all the hard work the devs are putting into this game I thought I would dedicate a screenshot to them that reflects their enormous efforts. Thank you devs!!!
