Thread: Tuesday Tips – Sept 14th: Weapon Decay
I love the idea that the combat balance might be set up as a beta.
Might I suggest that a galaxy clone might be appropriate for this kind of test?
Creating a sandbox with vanilla characters obviously won't provide the necessary results for high end pvp in a timescale that the community will find reasonable. Tests such as those on C-Ahazi/TC-Bria, with or without blue frogs will provide a good comparisson to the current state of pvp currently being demonstrated in the free-for-all on those servers.
Additionally -> BigSteve, afaik the increased degradation of weapon condition was related to using them with powerups, not with weapons. Slices were meant to make the weapon harder to fix.

Any update on the combat balance is always welcome thunderheart, even if its small tidbits such as you've just posted.
Thanks. Im doing my best to get it all to you as quick as I can.

Can you confirm whether or not its always been this way, or if this is a recent stealth nerf, TH?
I've been talking around, and most people (including myself) have had no problem repairing sliced weapons till recently (since patch 9).
If this is a recent stealth nerf, why was it never reported in a publish note, and why was the change made at all? It seems to just hurt players more, without adding any real benifit to the game (weaponsmiths make more than enough money as it is, so that couldn't be the reason for doing this to players).
Also, does this same rule apply to armor?

Yes and no. We're actually working to bring all copies of items, armor, buffs, etc. into one single database so the sandbox has a full range. Though if I had to pick and stress one thing about this whole process, it is forget everything you know about combat. "What was" is going away... Any effort to compare the existing system to the new system is like trying to catch a fart in a snowstorm.
My biggest challenge is trying to explain the differences in the system to the tens of thousands of people who post and lurk on the forums. I will be relying on the correspondents and community leaders to help with this a great deal. This truly needs to be a community effort.

Of course there could be some strange interaction between snow and fart gas that I'm not aware of... some sort of melting action or something...

Perhaps another community test of this is in order... set up a "snowbox" server and we'll try it out

Will the community have a say in the Combat Revamp? Or, it's a take it or leave it type of deal?
Great question Nolan
The community will be involved. Right now were planning on setting up a "beta boards", working on hardware configurations to get more people involved in the sandbox and run it like a beta. All of that stuff is in the progress of being worked out which is driving the delay in communication because it will change how things happen.
I'm being patient and thoughtful with what is said because I know how much it means.
Thank you for your reply Thunderheart! ![]()
Im originally from Buffalo - - we say snowstorm

Dear Thunderheat?
HurriwanShinobi wrote:
any idea how weapon decay is worked out?
some weapons eg. looted LVAs seem to decay much faster than regular player crafted weapons.

Again, Im NOT guessing =P
Though Id say its very hard to tell. It isnt something that is tracked and depends VERY much on user behavior. For instance, someone who is a mad-clicker and relies wholly on specials will wear out their weapon faster than someone that plays with an economy of strategy, well placed shots and skillful specials...
