Like most of you I am very disappointed with the "new Advanced" BE guide. My Suggestion since we know that TH will not respond nor will anyone else (whats new about that.. always promises never delivers) is to submit feedback through the main page. Atleast feedback is suppose to be read and taken into account..

SOE YOU REALLY OWE US AN APOLOGY.... Legally it may not be plagerism, Ethically it is..

I have to agree with KilJaed. SOE is even making BUSH look good

I'm not a BE, but if I was I'dfeel totally ripped off.

I take it you paid the guy who wrote this, maybe you should pay the players who actually wrote it instead? Reproducing other peoples hard effort isn't really fair and passing it off as your own, and how embarrassing now that prospective players can now read the forums too.

Please post the guide that was written as you assurred the BE community. I think failure to do so would cause a lot of distrust and really further proves that these forums do not work as a method of communication to the staff at SOE.

The one I really feel for is Talthazar. That makes twice now SOE have told him one thing and done another. We were supposed to see definitive information on what consititutes a valid CL 10 pet in this guide. Where is that information? It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the BE correspondent job open up and remain that way. I certainly wouldn't take it.

Congratulations to the approx. 92% of BE's out there who are now considered elite.

Oh and Thanks to Mirrl for a great guide. I'm glad it got stickied.

Is the Friday Feature late this week? I haven't seen it.

First, the plusses:

Thank you for posting the guide. As someone with experience both in technical writing and web development, I know that what you have there likely did take a fair amount of work. While the three sections on cloning (Mirrl's guide) were indeed pasted in, all the rest looks written from scratch and explains things fairly well, barring a number of typos and misused homonyms. I expect that it will serve very well for new BEs and people considering going into the profession, and will save them from a fair amount of pestering BEs in game about how it all works.

Now, the minuses:

As others have said, virtually nothing mentioned there is news to established BEs, and I think a number of us were hoping that the guide would answer some of our longstanding questions, such as exactly what determines Creature Level, and so on. It occurs to me that part of the problem may be that BEs expected a technical manual, while your whole intent for the guide was to make it a primer for the wider playerbase. Be that as it may, I still think that it is fair for us to have expected you to at least have run the draft by the programmers who coded Bio-engineering, so they could throw some editorial notes into your pasted version of Mirrl's cloning guide. Just to have a few [ed. yes, that's correct] additions here and there would have been great, along with some proofreading for outdated items and typos.

Thank you for your work on it. I'm sure it will bring some new attention to our profession, and be useful to new and aspiring BEs. In the meantime, we'll keep funneling our questions and issues through our dedicated correspondent.

I agree with everything said here, BE's seems to have gotten very little love. We have no tape or armor attachments to give us more points, or new any new things to craft since our update. Infact you have removed some of the power pet we could do. Not that I disagree with that, but you all had plenty of time to test and still let the live servers go through weeks of having these pets. We were promised to have a new creature int he Goe cave, but that never happeend. We have had to deal with disapointment after disapointment. Why? BE is a hard science, if i can now what gene does certain things... but i can not know for sure 100% what cause things to give or lose specials, resists, armor (garnted after trial and error most of us have it narrowed done to close). We deserve to get a guidelike an easy how to. We deserve new items, new tape, an apron, armor atachemnts and so on, which seem to have been forgotten to be give to us.

I must stop now because i am working my self up again on a subject that i find and hold close to my heart because I am a and have been a MBE since the 3rd week of the game.

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice document to have (should be in the Holocron IMO).

For an "Advanced Guide", I was a bit disappointed until I got to Mirrl's document, which was a great deal more help to someone actually working to figure out the BE profession. BE has to be the most complicated crafting profession in the game.

As you can see from this document, there are a great many things that the BE community does not know about the inner workings of the profession.

It would be really great if you could have the BE Dev go over Mirrl's document and add confirmations, corrections, and elaborations for the sake of completeness.

As a side-note, another future feature that might be fun would be "The Joy of Cloning: A BE Recipe Book".

Projecting the reality of BEs onto other crafting professions, try to picture this:

A weaponsmith is assembling a new weapon and, on the experimentation screen, has the ability to plug points in various attributes to affect final weapon stats. Only thing, as experiments are run, the WS cannot see the actual damage the weapon will make, she will only find out when the weapon is assembled after experimentation, when it's too late to change anything. Sounds bad? All WS would find it unacceptable, butat least anyone would still be able to use that gun.

An armorsmith is assembling a new piece of armor, and while he can see the various resist changes during experimentation, he cannot see how the HAM cost is affected, this will only be revealed during assembly after experimentation is completed. Still sounds bad and unacceptable beyond doubt, but at least anyone can still wear that armor, given the right buffs, and it could also be HAM sliced.

A chef is crafting some brandy... we all know how vital it is for chefs to keep the stomach filling under 50 to make sure any customer can take two swigs before combat to get double the bonus. But now imagine that chef cannot see the stomach filling value during experimentation, even though he can still affect it with experiment points. That secret value will only be revealed AFTER experimentation. Over 50? Wow, too bad, you should have guessed otherwise, but at least you can still sell that brandy, people will just have to drink with moderation.

A doctor is crafting some nice buff packs, and plans on selling them or giving them to guildmates. Only, not all docs have the maximum medicine use, some are not masters and cannot use packs with a med use rating that is too high. Unfortunately, that doc cannot tell what the medicine use rating is during experimentation, she has to guess what it will be based on other stats (but the devs are not saying what the algorithm is), so if she gets too greedy during experimentation, trying to max duration and effectiveness, too bad so sad, the med use rating is too high, and that's a masters only buff pack. Try again.

I could go on and on with other professions, but these are the main ones... fortunately for them, they are in complete control of their experimentation process. Bio-engineers have it much worse. CH's request specificChallenge/Creature Levelsbecause they are not masters, because they want pet duos ortriplets... non-CH's cannot use anything over CL10... no one in the game can use a CL71 or higher, and yet BEs overshoot so often when aiming for that nice CL70 gnort our bothan customer has ordered. And sure enough, CL is a guessing game, you only find out AFTER experimentation, when all you can do is curse yourself (which often translates in cursing SOE). Who cares it took you all afternoon and 4 deaths gathering that mutant rancor DNA, enjoy your CL72 cat dude... better luck next time.

For once, I'd like to be able to answer "YES" when asked over /tell "Yo man, can you make me a CLXX pet?", instead of going on and on in a rambling monologue, explaining how hard it is to hit a certain CL. Removing stats from other crafting experimentation screens in all professions would be totally unacceptable, despite the fact all these crafted wares would almost always be useable. Why are BEs allowed to play this guessing game on the one stat that affects the final viability of the product??? It's insulting. We all know BE was a profession added late in the game development... we're an afterthought, the underdog of crafting professions, we have the most complex crafting system and the least documentation of all. For once we saw the light at the end of the tunnel, we were promised a great dev-written BE guide... well it turns out that light is a charging kimo with a "tallbirch" lamp ducktaped to its head.

Don't tell us we have to wait for the jedi revamp and space expansion before we get those answers we asked for. Give us the guide we were promised, not the rehashed version of our forum guide. Don't tell us you need another free Friday feature slot to answer this, just finish that one and do it right. Please. Will it take a BE riot in front of Theed starport, accompanied by their army of random-CL pets to be heard? (seems to have worked for wookies) We do not want to go there, BEs are smart players, you cannot treat them like ub3r-powergamers who chase the Flavor of the Month.

Thank you for hearing us. We look forward to your answers.

TH is never going to post on this thread again, you guys realize that right? He even stated one time that he basically wouldn't talk to unhappy customers. That's great public relations, huh? And if he does reply, he will only respond to the one person that says "This is so cool!", or asks, "so, how do I create the macro for DNA sampling?" while ignoring all the real issues.

Yup. It's a very happy little world that he's created for himself. He can't even see the "negative" people any more. Oddly appropriate that his favorite smiley is that of a blind man.

This guide brings as much illumination to the dark arts of Bio-Engineering as the SEA Guide did for that game mechanic, not so long ago.

Finally got a chance to look at the friday feature. Man that sucks, I was hoping for some new info, maybe some more info on CL's and how to predict them. Oh well. Thunderheart, this ismoredissapointing than the skill tape feature.

This would be a good time for TH to take another week-long vacation, methinks. You know, after all the hard work talking to BE developers and all.

The saddest part of all is I'm not even really surprised or dissapointed. I half expected the BE guide to turn out like this.

I don't really bother getting my hopes up with new patches or friday features anymore.

Read it . Like I do every time one comes up, thought it was good, came here to post (Im not a BE)and now see it was lifted off the forum. Sounds like TH has had it with SOE, and just slapped them in the face.

Okay, somebody post something positive so he'll have something to reply to. Once he's in here, we can jump him.

Um....

Great Friday Feature! Now I can finally go pick up BE and know what the hell I'm doing!
