Thread: DEVS: AFK Macro loops need to GO!
It wont resolve anything as far as I'm concerned. It will make it worse.
I'm not alone in saying that I LIKE the recurring macro system and want to keep it. I completely dissagree with your contention that there is no place for it in the game. I believe that customizing macros allows players to act and function and nearly lifelike speed and that designingrecurring macros are as much an aspect of the game as hunting krayts.
Your solution of a 5 minute macro time is OK, but it does little to resolve any of the issues as the work around is easy, and the results of the work around can be far more taxing on the game then its worth. I also feel it would be annoying as heck to have to hit a button every 5 minutes. Anyone that has tried to manuallycycle center of being will know what I mean...
Why not allow the continuation of recurring macros, without the /functions that make it a problem?
I see nothing wrong with my solution at all, but I see a lot wrong with yours.
The initial post is flawed from the outset... There are 2 very seperate issues here:
1. What people are allowed to do when AFK
2. Recurring macros
These two things are sometimes used together, but sometimes not. I think the initial poster's issue was with AFK gameplay, which could be addressed in ways other than removing macro loops which are extremely helpful.
I regularly run /center, /loot, or /harvest macro loops during combat, which makes the game more enjoyable for me, and doesn't affect anyone else in the slightest.
Oh, and regarding the EULA. Third party macros ARE against it. In game recurring macros are not.
Have you ever thought that they put the in game system in for a reason? I personally think its to avoid the kind of lag issues I'm mentioning. People will AFK macro no matter what. You cant stop it. The devs cant stop it.
But you can make it harder to do.
By putting in an in game system, they allowed a mechanism in the game where players can macro, without it causing massive lag to the game. Its actually quite smart on their part. Why use a third party program, when you can use an in game mechanism? Its a great little system too! However, they made it a touch too powerful in some ways. This is easily fixed!
Just remove /loot.
Removing /macro just removes too much, and I for one, consider it a last resort to be tried after all other options have proven unsuccessful.
Removing the /macro and alias commands has many more ramifications then you may realize.
- You cant call another macro to time a seprate function with your main function, or time multiple macros in a chain
- You cant simply type /macro (name of macro) to perform your function from the spacial tab. This means EVERY macro will have to be placed on your toolbar.
- With a timer of 5 minutes, you cannot /pause any function for more then 300 seconds. Sometimes you want this!
Thats just 3 off the top of my head.

this whole argument started because one player was annoyed by people standing and talking, if you read the rules it says there is nothing wrong with afk macroing, why make it so u have to click every 5 minites that is stupid, keep the macro loops. the people who choose to always afk macro, let them be its their desision to spend all their time away from the computer and this isn't a free game, think of it this way you pay for a game to have fun, someone else pays for a game to lvl up and macro's they aren't having fun till the higher lvl's so you want to force them to have fun by taking away macro looping, clicking every five minutes can be pretty repeditive, the first macro i made back when i was a noob didn't repeat and i had to keep clicking it got really annoying and i was up all night, i don't think that is the way togo, why not make peace with our macro brothers instead of trying to make them like yourself, let the diversity be diverse and let the macroers and non macroers live in peace and if not fight them in the game not the forums.lol forum Zen
Uhm... I started the thread, and that is not the reason I've started it as you have stated. It's obvious you've read and understood nothing here.
Another example. I went to the village today on an xp dump at 3am. A time when the village is usually empty, cept maybe for one or two people afk.
I get there and I counted43 people sitting grouped outside the walls on both sides of the city ALL afk, ALL afk grinding their way through the phase 4 quest. I sat there and shouted for 3 minutes "/shout is anyone here? anyone actually playing this game?" not one response.
This is completely BS. Im sorry but this is a cancer that wont go away until devs take action and axe the ability to loop macros. It's just getting worse and worse, as more and more people feel they need to do it to stay competitive in the game to keep up with those whohave already AFK'd their way to uber status and wealth.

maybe they just didn't want to talk to you
seriously, until the dev's decide afk is wrong, you are spinning you wheels here.
this game is based on the grind, so afk makes a lot of sense. once you complete your template, then you can actually play the game. can't blame anyone for not liking the grind.

my beef is that people who afk grind make the game less enjoyable for those who dont.
Spam is self explanitory and annoying.
loot spamminghoards all the loot at all times and gives no one else an opportunity to get it, as well asmakes these players rich, who in turn slant the economy to where only THEY can afford the 50 million foruber items.
Afk grinding levels peoples characters to uber status rapidly and those who dont have 24 hours a day to play are left getting their asses handed to them by jedi-knights who probably only played a fraction of the xp towards their jedi.
if looping gets implimented and these people leave... good riddance, it'd make the game a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
its all on how u look at it man they have the right to make the best of what the game has and thats just how they do it
