I like to tap Merek lairs on Endor to get babies to spawn for taming (seems to be the only way to get a baby merek of any sort). You have to be very careful when you get down to 1/8th life left in the lair it will spawn a group of 4 mereks, often with a queen, battlelord, and/or king or 2 to go w/ a couple avengers. If you have a swoop bike handy, and you can mount it fast enough, you might survive to come back. Of course, you uber types may not need to run, but I do.

This is the "Boss spawn" ending that some lairs have. There is another thread that asks for the lists of these.

beyond wave lairs behaviour, there is the chance the lair spawns a kind of "champion".i noticed it when i was master 2hsword and NEARLY master rifleman.i hunted savage quenker on dantooine, grouping to my at-st to get higher lvl missions.Often, just a few hits before killing the lair ( and after i had killed the three previous waves ) a single "terrible quenker" spawned (even if the previous wave were composed by 2-3 savage quenker and no other terrible had ever spawned before ), that was stronger then its dead mates. This happened ONLY when i equipped the sword before opening mission terminal, never happened with rifle, and i never checked if this could happen with that too,as i surrended master rifle in a few minutes....i noticed this behaviour with another kind of critter,i don't remember which one though

i was just wondering if someone could clear up this lair name stuff, because i could swear that i've had missions where the lair was called a dead log or a bunch of rocks or what have you. But anyway if someone would clear this up for me big thanks because at the moment i dont touch a lair that is not my mission because i know how much a pain in the um, rear, it is when somebody messes with my missions.

Never from a destroy mission. Are you certain it wasn't one that spawned near it? I have never, ever gotten a lair name other then one with the critter in the name.

But then the do funny things with those patches...

I do know that this has happened to me once or twice before. But it was almost certainly a bug (as I didn't get any reward for clearing it even though it acted exactly like a mission lair should). It should be rare enough that no one can complain. If it's not named, assume it's not a mission lair.

Slightly off topic, but something worth knowing (if you don't already): Some creature types have variant behaviour based on their "sub-type"

For example, Only Female Kaadu will repair a nest, Male ones never do. Also, Female Kaadu will never help Male Kaadu - they aren't protective of them at all. If you attack a Female first, the Male(s) will defend them, and Females will help each other, but they'll never defend a Male - Their herd structure obviously doesn't work that way.

I've noticed that Spineflap Gatherers are the ones who repair, and I know only one type of Hermit Spider repairs, but I can't recall which one.

The same may be true for other, larger creatures, but since I mainly hunt them in groups, I don't truly know.

Kaadu. my current nemesis. i noticed the who-does-what behaviour myself - that's how i learned to hunt them without getting swarmed. pick off the males, and only other males will join in to help. tap a female and the whole crew will try to gank you. babies are one shot kills for me now, and no others rush me. order of business: pop the babies (if ur not looking for a pet); take down the males; finish up with the females; tap the lair for more targets. solo hunter so far here.

nice guide, Ranger Fred. helped me stay alive out there with just Hank and i.

as to 'invisible lairs'... which might better be described for overall usage and experiences as 'wild spawns, no lair':

a wild spawn (not a wild lair) is an essential element of certain valuable specied. among them are a certain boar on tatooine, greater plains stalkers, and swamp stalkers (there ARE more).

a wild spawn will replace/respawn SINGLE creatures as they are elimiated.

exceptions exist, among them the BioE /sampleDNA until the mob is dead... so far, DNA kills seem to REMOVE the spanwns generated by chance.

additionally, while the '3 spawns and out' advice is valid, please remember: wild no-lair spawns can respawn 3-10 times.

when in douht, run as far away as you can...
