all i can say is wow, someone else feels the same way i do ( aside from my lovely game wife that is )
I game from another MMORPG,EQ (insert EQ Rant here ) where any one who knew me there knew that i played my character to the most Rpg Hilt as i could . a crusty old Dark Elf Necromancer that pretty much hated anything living and most definitely anything related to the "light" Races. I learned to cook the Teir Dal Dishes , I learned to make the Tier Dal Armor, I went to the top of my class and did everything i could do to make my character as spooky creepy and necromancy as i could. Lol i would walk around one of the Zones that had Specters (if you played EQ and where in Oasis Zone you know what i was talking about ) as a Specter scaring the bejezus outta the newbies on my way to the Traditional Teir Dal home of Neriak where i helped out the young necromancers with money for spells looted gear that i gave them with the promise that they gave them to the necromancers that came behind them.
I was there for every raid my guild held into the planes and i was one of the first necromancers to get his epic in my guild. Was i a pain to get along with ? Of course but then again any one that spent his formative years playing with the dead are gonna be a lil cranky
but i never failed in my duties as a guild member a guild officer a player and as a friend
i still pop into norrath from time to time to check on every one and see how things are going
reminece about the time so and so did this or i got chased from one side of the zone to the other because i forgot to darkness the mob before i cast fear on it ..
Whats this mean to my SWG life ?
it means that if you know my lovely game wife A'thena, Myself or our alts i would hope to say that we try to RP those as well as much as we can ....
there is H'eph, The Master Weaponsmith/Master Chef (both profession having to do with fire
which happens to be the god that he is named after's main realm of rule )
Then there is Jax, the descendant to his namesake in EQ land... Heck he even looks a bit like his Dark Elf Necromancer Great granddaddy.. Imperial
Why ? someone has to be the bad guy might as well be the traditional Jax : )
We try to do as much as we possibly can we help as many new people get used to the game and
try to teach them what we know of our professions and that its more about enjoying yourself than being the most uber of ubers... whats the point of being able to kill Vader , Fett , and Skywalker all at the same time if you cant remember how you got there or anyone to cheer you on ?
Jax is still the crusty necro imperial type that would give you the armor off his back if you dont expect it and he sees you are having trouble
and H'eph is still abit scatter brained and thinking that by supplying the entire known universe with guns no one will be killed cuase everyone will have guns ( he is still trying to work out the math on that one )
A'thena my lovely game wife is still rejecting Jabba's the Hutt job application to work in Mos Athens since he cant seem to clear a sercurity background check
Roxxie is still the most beautiful Twi'Lek dance the Bestine Cantina has ever seen and still the sweetest woman in the whole galaxy ( she has to be to put up with crusty ol Jax)
Our Friends know us to be as caring and as giving as we can reasonably be ...
sure we grumble about high prices for resources sure i still growl at rebel scum and of course i salute the Stormtroopers when they yank me off my bike and start to scan me then freak out and salute once they see its 2nd Lt. Cryptflyer on another misson for the Empire
but thats life ... i have changed my personal goals in the game so many times i honoestly cant remember what they were (aside from becoming jedi and i dropped that cuase i didnt feel that chasing profession after profession with out learning them would be good for the economy ) i just learned to be a Bio Engineer with Jax... Why you might ask ? stop by Mos Athens sometime and look at the Bio Engineer lab *Thunderbolts flashing in the background thunder booming in the background as Jax laughs manically* whoops had a moment there as A'thena says ...
i enjoy SWG and being part of the Community as a person that lives in Mos Athens
I am not Guilded
I have rushed to defend Bestine serveral times as an Imperial officer
I have helped my friends to the best of my abilites
I have spent hours helping new players understand the concept of stances,ranges and ham costs on the weapons i make cause no one took the time to make sure i did before i bought my first set of non cdef guns
I helped set up the First and only ( that i am aware of ) Wookiee cultural Attache cause our massive wookiee friends need love too ...
I raided the Rebel base outside of Bestine with Laramie, Pentjak , and Wulfgang the Bothan that thought he ruled Bestine....
I brought friends in from Coronet before the lag monkies set up permabarking camp there just to see the only master dancer at the time Ero' Tca dance ...
Am i a Master Fighter ? no where near it ..
Do i have Uber Armor and Krayt Weapons falling out of my backpack ? lol i wish
Do i have a Bajillion Credits ? i barely have enough to make sure my house doesnt vanish ..
So i have Friends that i would do anything in the world for ? yes i do and wouldnt hesitate to do it again ..
Do i remeber the first kind thing another player did for me ?
Crow-II gave me the first spraystick he made as we stood outside a 10minute shuttle from mos Entha he didnt charge me a dime and i still have it on display in my personal residence
Do i have a Datapad full of Factional pets ? lol i had them once and they got me killed
Just want to take a minute to thank every one that has made this players stay in the Time long long ago in a galaxy far far away such a good one ...
Pentjak and Laramie for showing me an Imperial is more than a british Accent and a snappy uniform ...
Wulfgang for showing me its not just the size of the toon that commands respect
Crow-II for showing me that not everysale is about profit....
Tammbo and Shabitz for helping me understand that Weaponsmiths are people too and their infinite paitence in teaching me the honorable Path of the Smithy
For the Countless newbies that i meet and see everyday that remind me we all started from nothing and need a hand so keep it humble ...
Vinman a guy i barely know i met out near mos eisly hunting squill who marveled at my goober baby CH pet ( that walked away healed new padded armor chestplate a BE cat and a few tents to help him get back to town )

My lovely talented gamewife who never ceases to amaze me with feats that rival anything that the Hutts, the Empire or the Rebellion could ever do and never does less than her very best to make sure her customer comes first even though she rather be out seeing the geonosian caves or her first ewok village on Endor but cant till her customer meets her in some backwater place she does it with a smile that could melt carbonite and with a business savy that seems almost jedi *waves hand republic credits will be fine *
Do i log in every day to see what the Empire/Galaxy/Rebels/Devs have new for me ?
you betya i still get shivers with the opening notes of the themesong and the Long long ago in a galaxy far far away flashes on the screen
do i get mad as nuts when i think i have a full day of weaponcrafting ahead of me when i havent sold a gun in a week or the crafting stations tells me the T21 i just made doesnt belong to me ? with out a doubt i say thing on this side of the screen that makes the sandpeople blush in their masks ...
do i run from Jawas ? only if i am on my non fighting H'eph : )
Anyhow enough of my rambles ... work to be done in the game ..

Yes, it's the journey and how you want to seek the life of your character.
Tess is an armorsmith, working to better her craft. I didn't do a hard grind to master (I think it took me 3 months because I was enjoying the game while she was learning the skills) and I never took a cue from a holo to find out what I should want to do in the game. I'm setting Tess' destiny.
That said, yes, there are things that agrievate me about the game and about the state of the armorsmithing profession, but I seek to find the ways to shine in it anyway.

In the MMORPG acronym, there is RPG - Role-Playing Game! It's always nice to see that a few of us still remain focused on it! 
Sadly, the hologrind killed most of our efforts but with the revamps soon coming in, maybe the time has come to promote this some more.

Great post.
I admit that sometimes (well, that's a lie, quite a bit actually) I have problems setting goals. If I see a group of people RP'ing, I try to get involved if they allow me.
For me, I'm a good leader, but I'm also a better follower when I've got a good leader.
I can set goals for other people and get things moving really well, but for myself. ehh......

Indeed; although the players do run everything in this game (economy completely player driven) the devs shouldn't be slacking off to practically let the game be run completely by us. Its up to them to keep adding content, because unlike real life, not anyone can add things to the world.

Excellent post! I've always questioned the motivation of grinders and lewt people. To 'live' in the Star Wars galaxy was my primary motivation for joining, and the complexity of this game keeps me here. Why on Earth (Tattoine?) would I want to rush my experience? 5 stars to a great post.

well your right man but i think thaT hologrinding may have screwed up this game.remember the first days of swg man that was very wierd sensation logging in for the first time, lol didnt know there was a ticket colector but i did the obviuos thing i walked thru the ship lol that was priceless.
well man as said perfect writing man made me enjoy my day now
