I do agree with the original poster. I do understand what some of the later posts are saying. I have played most online games out there. I started whith UO and I have learned that the game is not what makes it fun but what I find to do in the game. People forget that these are entire online worlds, you do not have to be just a pvper or crafter or ranger. Most of my fun in game comes from the things I create for myself to do. I understand the need for the game to be enhanced with different features, it makes it much easier to have fun. I do not bemone the fact that they are not here yet, I just make do and try different things out.
The game has all types, and while I grew up on old sierra and Ultima games, the younger generation grew up on FPS. I find that there is a different mindset. Some people like to go slow and have fun being in game, while others like to collect the loot and kill the enemy. Neither is wrong or better, just different.
My point i guess is, make the game what you want, and keep exploring things for your toon to accomplish. My favorite thing that I have not done yet in SWG (used to do it alot in UO) is to set up a new player quest. Give new playwers a goal and an objective, bring back some ore and some generic loot from a garbage pile and get something. Stuff like that is fun to do and helps the noob learn a little.

Very good Post I have many goals and aspirations in galaxies, that dont have to do with grinding professions and getting my Jedi slot. I have been with galaxies since beta 2 and I have only mastered 2 professions on my main character. I will not change him anymore and he is not even complete yet I have 3 more skill boxes to get him before he is where he needs to be. It's been almost a year and my character is almost complete. Some of my goals in game are to be a well known smuggler and slicer, and to help my PA become one of the best known in the galazy. I love visiting strange and excititng places and getting crazy various objects to decorate my house with. so all of you who are bored try to have your character live in the star wars universe RP often if you like I try to as much as possible.

Glad to see there are people out there with views similar to mine. To me, playing the game is all about roleplaying, and immersing myself in a fantasy world with some great people to interact with. If you play the game in "It's not a game, it's an alternate reality" mode, you're liable to stick around a lot longer and enjoy yourself. You'll have good friends and adventures (or misadventures) to keep things fresh.
It's the people you see that come in, master all the battle professions with a month, then just go around beating on stuff by themselves that have lost their way. Why spend $15 a month just to prove to a bunch of people that don't care that you're capable of soloing a Krayt Dragon and have no life outside of playing to kill things? It's one reason I never stuck around any of the other MMPORPG games I tried... AO, DAOC, AC... they all lacked substance. Every aspect of the game revolved around hunting... the economy, most player orgs, and so on. But on top of that there was very little "going on" that made me feel like I was in a dynamic game world with real people with real personalities, who didn't just identify themselves by what weapon they carried or what they killed today.
That's why I like Star Wars, I see a lot more potential for good roleplaying and substantive interaction than in other game of the genre that I've played. /salute

Fantastic post, and a good guide to live your SWG life by.
With a game like this, you can't stop a player from determinedly not having fun - all you can do is give them the tools to have their own fun.
A lot of it is what you bring to it, and the rest is all about the people you meet.

I am a Master Teras Kasi, and a Master Doctor. I deal 3k-4k dmg/sec in combat, and buff at 2.5k. I have almost the best buffs on my server, and am able to beat pretty much anything in game solo. I am uber, or, at least as uber as I want to be.
I love to role play, and would LOVE it if someone would flirt with me as I stand at the starport. I host parties, and try to attend as many as I get invites to. This is why I joined this game in the first place, not the combat, but the other people.
I wish others realized that. I hosted a PvP adventure event recently, and had a grand total of 5 people turn out for it, and only 1 made it in time, even with a 1 mil prize at stake. It's not the money that worries me, it's not even that the Rebs won (though I would have LIKED it if the imps won
), it's that with literally a month of planning behind it, 1 person experienced it, and 4 others barely got their feet off the ground for it. With turnout like that, why did I bother?
I'd like to host another event like this, even more complex involving more people, but I doubt I will. Why would I when all of 2 people may show up this time? Why would I waste another month of my time refining the script, waste (at minimum) 5 other peoples time for the event, just so 2 people can have some fun?
I hope everyone reads this post. If there's a shift in the attitudes I'll consider running another event, but as it stands right now I don't even feel like having a party

This post should be stickied.
Ive grineded some professions while taking it easy with others. I can compare and I can say grinding removes the enjoyment from the game like nothing else. Ive neverfollowed any holocrons and am so glad I didnt. The word 'grind' is an offensive word as far as I am concerned.

No goal is required on an entertainment medium. Except, to enjoy yourself, as a general rule.
That's why I'm here.
