The crafting profession is probably the easiest and fastest way to build up a starter nest egg that I've seen.
One starter money making method doesn't seem to have been mentioned: surveying
If you're not one already, before doing anything get novice artisan do all the helper droid missions. Most of them can be done in the safety of the town you start in. After you're finished, you'll get a rental speederbike and a free ticket for the starport or shuttleport. You'll be given a couple of surveying tools. Immediately start surveying for every mineral or chemical in town. If you find a resource, especially steel, radioactive, fiberplast or ore that's over 60%, make a waypoint. Then go to the artisan mission terminal and take as many missions looking for that resource as possible. Go back to the waypoint you set, survey again and voila, all missions pay out at once! You can make upwards of 2K each time you do this. You can actually make about 50k an hour if you move fast. If there is no suitable resource locations in town, go out of town a little ways..no more than 2 or 300 meters though, unless you have some decent combat skills. Survey there. More than likely, something will be over 60% or whatever % the mission requires.
Here's an another excellent way to make decent money doing surveying..
Once you get a little combat experience under your belt and a few boxes in surveying, go out farther out of town and survey for everything. For minerals, Anything 75% or over that you find, waypoint it; if you find ore at 60% or over, waypoint it. . Once you have two or three waypoints for different resources (remember the names of the resources, write them down and the stats) then go to Coronet in Corellia or Threed in Naboo with your free ticket. Use search to find Artisans, Weaponsmiths, Architects, Droid Engineers. If you find one send them a tell and politely ask if they are interested in a good resource location. Most Master crafters greatly dislike having to survey constantly to find good resource locations and will pay upwards of 10K for a good reliable waypoint. Two things to keep in mind. The area should be relatively flat and away from any creature lairs and not have many harvesters on it already. The crafter will have to actually go there and try to place a harvester before he'll be willing to pay you, but if he's honest, you can expect to get rewarded and probably gain a permanent customer. As a new player, you won't know what resources are the highest quality, but eventually you'll be able to get very good money providing locations for very high quality resources. Alternatively, you can ask the crafter what they need and try to find it. They'll know what's presently spawning and where. Survey only in Corellia, Tattoine and Naboo at first. Anywhere else is probably too dangerous for you at this level.
You can actually start a pretty good side business just supplying waypoints to crafters.
Another option is to buy a personal harvester or 2 on the bazaar, place them yourself and sell the resources. Even low quality resources can sell for 3-4 cpu on the bazaar and high quality as much as 12! I bought 500 units of onifide, a copper with 999 Conductivity for 6k to make my first crafting tools.
Another small business you can start is to buy from artisans wholesale. In most cases, the small items sold on the bazaar by novices and low end crafters are of inferior quality to the ones crafted by masters. They usually have them in crates. If you make friends with a master crafter, ask him if he will let yousell a few of his better small itemson consignment. Start with two, something like 99.9% weapon repair kits for example. These are low cost items for a master and he'll probably be willing to trust you with a couple. Post them on the bazaar and when they sell, tip him his cost immediately. Chances are he'll offer to give you a few more. Once you've established your integrity, he will be willing to give you more stuff to post. You can net a couple of K per item just doing this.Unless he's grinding another crafting profession, he'll probably have a lot of grind quality resources hanging around. See if he'll sell them to you cheaply. We crafters tend to accumulate them in large number and with the limited storage space in houses, we would just like to get them some of them out of there, but most of us can't destroy resources outright..it goes against the grain. Often you'll get them for free just for him to free up space.
I'm no long-time veteran, only a couple of months myself, but I"m a Master DE and Master Artisan and I've hired novices to do the things I've described above, so I know they work.
Most of us won't get to the million credit per day level in this game, but it's relatively easy to make decent starter money if you're willing to expend a little time and energy. I made enough surveying to buy enough resources so that I made master artisan in 3 days, with a little help from a few generous veterans crafters. If you show initiative and willingness to do what is necessary to succeed early on, you'll be surprised just how many of us will be willing to help out in any way we can.

Whoa. Sorry about the multiple posts. I assure you, it wasn't intentional. Dont' know what happened. I had some problems using my alternate account name when logging in. changed to my primary and I guess it logged both posts.

I would say either you are lucky or people on your server go back to the roots.
I have played a medic the last couple weeks, and at most 1 out of 5 tips me. But it's a lot of fun when there are lots of people around who all are not afk.
Some don't say anything, some say thanks, some tip whatever they can afford (between 50-8000 creds is what I got.) Someone wanted to tip but didnt have money, he offered me a free pet after I healed him.
Yes you can make some money with that, but most want to earn cash a lot faster than that, so I suggest either doing destroy or survey missions.
Harvesting your mission targets and selling the meat/hide on the bazaar helps, too.
Oh there is one thing I remember doing, don't know if this is effective though. If you just started as an artisan, you can do crafting mission for xp and money; if you only want xp, get missions close to the terminal, so you dont have to walk to the first npc. Then talk to him and craft. Abort the mission. You won't get money, but at least some quick crafting xp without the need of ressources.

That's a new feature from one of the last patches, I don't know if it was in the patch notes.
That's probably why you missed it.
Gave me some headaches to realize that I can't see my text while afk though, that's why I slipped that in. Strange feature, guess they didn't bother in changing that, or missed it. Or just don't want people to go afk
That's probably why you missed it.
