Thread: Tips Please
If there were bouncers or cover charges, I would never enter a Cantina again. I tip according to how fast I get healed. Either way, I tip a minimum of 200 crs. More if the dancer or entertainer flirts or goofs with patrons. Make's it seem real.
I mean, are you more or less likely to tip a lame dancer who dances well, or someone who puts a smile on your face either in game or IRL?
With all of the travelling entertainers in combat groups, be smart about what entertainers should or shouldnt do to the community it relies upon and vice versa.
after reading this, im GLAD to say that i never have to come across StavroMueller in game. youre the same kind of jerk that ninja loots (not saying you do that, just saying youre the type). entertainers have NO way of making money. and they are NEEDED. so instead of helping the economy and overall flow and simbiance of the game, you go out and become an entertainer so you dont need them? youre a jerk.
i took on entertainer as well, but if im in a cantina with other performers in there, i will listen to them. i will tip them. i only took on entertainer for when im in camps becuse i have yet to see a travelling entertainer.
im interested to hear what profession you are.
I have been an entertainer since the second day after the game went live. I also had a second job from the second day. I now have 5 skill trees with points in them, and one advanced skill (musician)
IRL people who work in entertainment have day jobs while they put in lots of time honing their art and performance skills. Some can give up their day jobs after a lot of developement, and a lot of luck. Many become excellent performers but never get the big break.
Spend some time becoming a better entertainer. Not just higher skilled, anyone who can write a macro can be a master entertainer in a few days time, but a novice who interatcts with the audience and makes it fun for them will get better tips than a master entertainer/musician/dancer who sits AFK with a macro running.
You need to EARN your tips. If you went out to eat and the waiter gave you the AFK version of taking your order and bringing your food, would you give a good tip? I know I wouldn't.
Sehisso, while you are correct about getting that break IRL, this ISNT RL. entertainers are not needed IRL, but theyre certainly needed here (well i guess technically theyre not needed in this game either, but waiting for your BF to heal just sitting there is NOT the best way to spend several hours of your time).
Um, okay....does he go to cantinas and entertain himself? Besides, it's up to the player whether they want to tip or not. If they don't want to, if they'd rather entertain themselves, then hey...whatever makes their bushel brighter!
Here's the bottom line. I'm an entertainer and I expect tips from people who use my services just as you would expect to pay for any other kind of service. However I see a lot of entertainers out there who don't earn there money. If you are an entertainer then you should go the extra mile to recieve a decent tip. I have a female character and I'm constantly interacting with the customers while I dance (talk to them, flirt with them etc.) and I always seem to get decent tips because of it. (I've actually walked away with over 3000 credits inunder an hour). When I do receive a tip I makesure to acknowledge the tip witha "thank you".
Also for the entertainers out there; you may want to do what I did and I create a macro saying "Any tips are greatly appreciated" (don't use a demanding message) and run it every once in a while to remind people that this is a service your providing. Sometimes people just forget andsome new players don't even know about tipping ( I didn't when I first started playing.)
So all you entertainers out there should get into your role as an entertainer and actually entertain your customers. And all you customers remember to be generous to these people who do their part in aiding you through the best and worst of times. Entertainers need money too.

Entertainers are needed IRL. How many Movies have you seen recently... how many CD's do you have? How often do you listen to Music on the radio? There are actually people that create these things. They may not be called "Entertainers" but that's exactly what they do in essence... They entertain. Granted IRL, they do not heal Battle Fatigue, but they are a very necessary part of Life. Without Entertainers, life would get boring. In the game, I am an Entertainer/Artisan. I do not expect any tips while I entertain. I think that it is more fun for me to entertain people than pretty much anything else that I've done in the game so far. I do try to show a personality while playing by talking or at least trying to get people to talk. I just wish that those little punks wouldn't sit there AFK in the middle of the Cantina and play the goddam game. It really frustrates me to see one person in particular in the Kor Vella Cantina on Kettemoor (I think you know who you are) all the time raking in the Experience, while the rest of us Entertainers actually put some effort into the game and try to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.
That's it for me for now...
Some people just don't get it....i dunno, mayne -I'M- the one who doesn't get it. The consistently best way to get tips, in my experience as an entertainer/musician from the first moment I stepped into SWG, is to NEVER ASK FOR THEM. And you know what? it works wonders. I get tipped well and regularly. I also, however, never EXPECT tips.
I realized really quick that there's little to zero chance of an entertainer surviving on tips alone, even if you get most of you training from other players. So I do delivery missions to other cities on Naboo when I need cash. Two missions from Theed to any of the far eastern cities (Kaadara, Moenia or Dee'ja Peak) and one shuttle ticket to that location usually nets me 1300-1400c one-way. A return pair of missions back: you've just made over 2500c in very little time with very little effort. Now granted, other planets have different missions setups, but the premise is still the same: stop expecting the game world to support you 100%. Yes, we entertainers provide a service. But think about what we're doing in more Real-Life terms a moment....
You are invading someone else's business establishment (cantina or hotel) and just setting up shop at no cost to you. You have a captive audience, and the figurative "owner" gets no part of your take or even any say in the matter. The experience is easy to get, safe and comes in a relatively steady stream. And if they choose not to tip? So what? be a little self-reliant and go get missions to pay for that next instrument or pretty outfit you want. Step OUTSIDE the cantina for a time, take a break from the headlong rush to gain experience with every waking moment in the game and go take a mission or two. See a new city. Meet some folks in a DIFFERENT cantina while you're there.
As far as I'm concerned. entertainers are already getting paid with the experience they rake in from those who listen to/watch them at no danger of being killed by something nasty while they do it. Add to that the lovely medics and stim pack gifters that allow entertainers to keep it up and keep learning without rest breaks, and suddenly the fact that the SWG world is not going to support you through tips alone seems like such a minor thing.
But try talking to people or even greeting them when they arrive (and I mean by name, not using the /welcome command), and you'll be surprised at how fast your complaints about the lack of tips vanish.

Hmm.. I have entertainer ability only for when there are no dancers. Several times I've found a cantina empty, so i dance for myself and anyone who is there. Many times, as I finish healing my bf another player walks in with 200 bf or more and starts watching me. I don't leave... I stay specifically to help that player heal. yes, i may go afk and run a dance macro - i thought the point really was to heal YOUR battle fatigue. i don't do it to get XP - i'm not leveling in dancing. So since I am there dancing just SO YOU CAN HEAL instead of continuing the game... a tip would be appreciated.
I am glad that most do tip for my time. After hearing how you folks in this post feel about working for it... I think from now on when i'm healed up... i'm done dancing.
as for tipping people AFK, why would you do that?
if theyre afk, then theyre doing it just for the XP. so why should you tip them on top of it? theyre already getting their reward with the XP.
