my have the times changed...it is a bit funny to look at this thread from our view point, this game has really changed, I can stil vaguly remember my early days as a medic, and the people who say that the medic did not deserve a tip had no idea what it was like when this thread was made. back when everyone was poor, there was no tumble, it was a bit hard to get xp, but it was fun too. to get an idea people are talking about doing delivery missions! those were fun...

/sigh makes me sad thinking how this game has changed so much, back then the cities were so alive with people, not bots, and you could have a nice conversation with a stranger while you healed them, now if you go into a med center it is all about tumbling. I have been tempted many a time to go in and buff a tumbler when they sit there, afk and ask for money...quite sad really. But then I would be cheating some up and coming medic, or holo grinder, never know these days.

oh well, guess it will always be changing

I just took up the medic profession yesterday and here's my perspective on the subject:

I don't expect a tip, nor do I ask for one....I'm doing you a favor and getting xp while I'm at it. That is especially true when I'm at the cantina (where I plan on grinding through the next few levels). When I'm watching a dancer, they're healing my battle fatigue...so when I heal their action with a stim, I believe we are even. We both get xp from eachother...it's a win, win situation. I went through an entire crate of stim b's last night in about2 hours...and had fun doing it. Personally, the only time I would expect a tip, would be when I buff someone AFTER they ask me to do it. Too bad I'm nowhere near that level yet

My turn to jump on this reserected post...

Let me paint a picture:

Bloodfin Server, Coronet, Corellia Medical Center

8 Pc's with the ability to heal

4 AFk Tumblers

10 Pc's actually neding heals

0 Pc's healing the non Tumblers

This is a DAY to DAY occurance. Should a Medic or Entertainer Expect a tip for anything that isnt a Buff... yes and no. Medics do spend money on resources or heal kits. That money has to come from somewhere. Entertainers generally need money for instruments or clothing (as most people will not watch a dancer in bad clothing... this is from 1st hand experience of spending months in the cantina's). I personally make it a point to tip anyone who heals me... half the time, I spend 20 minutes asking for heals in Spatial while promising a good tip. I base my tip off of the wounds and the service. If I see one doc healing all the Pc's while the rest are healing Tumblers... they get a larger tip, etc. For Entertainers, well, I despise walking into a cantina and tripping over the entertainers the moment I step through the door. If they are AFK, no tip... I dont watch them unless they are the only ones there. If they interact... I tip depending on the wounds and BF.

Things have definatly changed... some for the better... some for worse. I'm amazed that this topic is still even discussed. A few credits for someone that does something for you is a small price.

I agree, if the healing is unsolicated, you shouldnt tip. If you asked for healing then there should be some compensation.

Before I decided to be a medic, I always tipped and said thanks to whoever healed me. As a medic now, it is rare to ever recieve a tip. And if you make your own stims and stuff it is very expensive. Resource gatherers on my server charge between 25 and 100cpu for any kind of resources, no matter if it is good quality or not. They know what is needed and jack up the prices.

If I didn't have my TKM to financially support me, I could never survive long enough to get by on tips and courtesy of other players. I used to go to the starter cities and get a novice to take 10 minutes to heal a small wound. I tipped them 10 to 20k, depending on how friendly they were.

I heal a lot of people while standing around the starport, or I will heal the dancer while she is giving a mind buff. Usually a thank you is all I get, but I am jaded and used toit now.

My husband plays a Master Doc/CM, and sometimes even when he's wearing his Master Doc banner thingy people will say "Well at least I'm giving you lots of experience!"

Uh huh.

He giggles.. but I watch him play - people are excessively demanding if he happens to be wearing his banner thingy. "HEAL! HEAL ME!" constantly (without nary a "please" in there, usually).. and most of the time they never tip, again thinking he needs the experience, or something. :/

I've convinced him not to wear his banner so much - that way we can go adventuring together without people nagging him for healing with nothing in return. Meanwhile, I hunt resources for him, so I know how difficult it is to make all the medical stuff - the list is pretty extensive, and if we purchased the stuff, it'd be outrageous - things like good quality meat and so forth aren't cheap, ok.

He'll still walk up and heal people in medical centers and so forth, usually without ever expecting a tip because a lot of people just don't - not even to Master Docs. There'll be people tumbling, all of these people getting experience off the tumblers, and some poor guy with three black bars sitting in the med center hoping to be healed, eventually. Pisses off my husband, he heals the black barred guy. Still - not even a "Thank You". :/

Meanwhile, I ninja heal, usually newbs. Not for experience - after watching my husband play his character, there's no way in hell I'll ever become a Doc. I do it because people are about to die out there fighting chubas! And no tips, and I don't expect thanks or anything.

But for God's sakes would it kill people to say "please" and "thank you" more often?

Jeesh.

what are you doing in the med center then if you were not there for a heal?

Your wounds heal slowly while sitting in a med center, that is why people come in and go AFK. After enough time you have 0 wounds.

So people still use the non-Player city medcenters? Interesting. I can't tell you the last time I was in one.

It's also interesting that docs/medics still haunt those medcenters. Again, I thought that era of the game had long since passed with buffs, people healing their own wounds with 120+ power B packs, etc.

Medics are in a tough spot. It is simple enough for marksmen/brawlers to pickup rudimentary medical skills so that they can service themselves out in the field. Also the medic is sooo dependant upon being able to heal other people to get xp. Sucks to be a medic I guess. I think a field medic is the most viable, grouping with people to join in hunts and heal them for free along the way. That way you get your share of the mission loot to help compensate. Don't think sitting around in town all day waiting for people to come in for healing is going to cut it
